On Christmas day I did a video of me walking through a beautiful neighborhood in Kigali showing beautiful homes, gardens, greenery, and scenery. I stated in that video that I would be posting a video showing a different side to bring some contrast to the narrative. This is also what life is like in Kigali.

I am from, Ghana, West Africa, and I consider this "village" actually a very beautiful town community. It has the usual mix of haves and have-nots, clean but unpaved roads, etc., beautiful happy faces. I am really impressed by the cleanliness. I have lived and travelled very extensively in some of the more famous places in the world (NY, Boston, London, etc), but I always find this kind of environment to inject peace and calm into my spirit and being.

For real its looks just like village life in the Caribbean. My fathers village had tatch roofs and mud floors when he was a child, in my generation the houses were wooden, now its mostly concrete houses but still quite rural.

I've looked at this and wanted to add to my comments. I already mentioned the vegetable gardens. I notice the children didn't beg for anything. Those little one were bright eyed, big smiles and round faces: healthy. A wellness center (!!!), nice school and a clinic in walking distance (which probably explains the overall appearance of the children). God willing I will see for myself.

Thanks so much Jacqueline, I had to pry myself away from the little fist bumpers as they would not let me leave. The rent is reasonable where I'm at. The location is well sought after and popular.r My bed linen is changed out once a week and the apartment swept/mopped for $700. It is normally $800-$1000 but covid has caused many to lower their pricing.

This is something that suprised me in Africa also. People would build a mansion in the middle of a shantytown. I think its cool. We in the west might look at it as something that creates envy, but i think they view it as showing the community possibilites.

There is a good side to having poorer communities mixed with the affluent- in America most affluent people move to areas where the entire neighborhood is gated including their schools and make themselves inaccessible to others of different economic levels. I like the idea that those who were able to get some prosperity come back to their communities. I am sure that these homes are inspirational to those who are looking to a future and not as disparaging as having all professionals leave the communities altogether and never look back.I attended Howard University in Washington DC and in 1968 the school made the decision to keep the main gate open so that the surrounding community did not feel that we were an untouchable elitist community separate from theirs. It may be symbolic but these symbols have long ranging impacts that we do not see yet.

I'm glad that you were able to show a little variety compared to what I normally see regarding Rwanda. My question to you is, What have you done as an individual to change the disparity? My thoughts upon seeing how thing are, was what can I do, in areas like that? I plan to move to Africa and I feel that your video just opened up my eyes to other opportunities to help develop areas like that. I guess I'm saying, "If you see me naked, don't just look at me and talk about me, give me some skills that will allow me to cloth myself".
@AfrikanLifestyle
@AfrikanLifestyle 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your reply and your question. Reality check: One does not change the disparity of an entire village or even one family in one visit to Africa. Also, the skills required to help someone "clothe" themself does not happen in one visit. One does not even "develop" an area like this unless you have damn near-unlimited resources and even then you can't help everyone. You have to pick where you're going to serve. Being here on the ground I see the enormous needs whereas you watching this video are getting a snapshot, just a couple pictures in a frame. It's much bigger than you think. When and if you move to Africa the picture may come into focus for you. That being said and to answer your question. I have adopted a couple of charities that I work directly with helping them get funding through GoFundMe campaigns where I have given directly out of my pocket. I have paid bills for families, I have paid school fees for children, I have CLOTHED children, I have fed people on the street. According to some I have inspired and given hope.

You seem a bit salty, I don't need a reality check. As an adult you should realize all comments aren’t given to do harm. Thanks! Very familiar. Thanks especially for going off the beaten paths that we see so frequently on other channels on KZbin. Bravo! In much of Africa, many 'villages' near fast-growing cities soon become transitional and then fully 'certified' suburbs and/or 'hot' neighborhoods. Even if they have title to the such village lands that they occupy, most owners succumb to the legal pressures and/or the moneys offered and move out in favor of the 'visions' of planners, individual buyers, and/or developers. Even some upper-end residential areas (e.g., in Nairobi, Dar Es Salaam, Accra, etc.), soon become unapologetically commercial, hosting big corporations and other enterprises. This 'village' area is likely to become quite different in a relatively 'short' period, if I understand correctly that it is relatively close to, or in, Kigali city and Province (yes, there is a province called Kigali within which is the city by the same name, last time I checked). Thanks again.

Places I’ve stayed were not so nice as yours. You are doing well with this place. Villages in Africa generally are not as not as convenient and awesome as your space! Well I’ve not been to Rwanda yet. It it’s my next stop. Peace!!

Agora tower. The energy system is water and wind and solar grid to salt water battery. Internet can be the floating system now over Kenya Streets don’t need to be paved if we make pendulum suspension cars of recycled aluminum with airless tires made with recycled rubber

Love this village. Serene, clean environment with a good mix of modest and rich homes and lots of trees and plants. Funny enough, I don't mind the dirt roads either ... I like the blend of nature and modernity. Love the hills, etc. Beautiful village. I'd take this any day over city life. Nice

Wow beautiful indeed. Villagers build beautiful and beautiful homes too. They have plenty land to be creative and it's cheaper to live in the village. Just like in my country. But it's exceptionally clean.

Yes indeed such disparity even on the same street! Hopefully such evident disparities will not translate into something ugly. Rwanda must never return to the strife that it went through in her dark history after so much of success and peace she enjoys now. We here in South East Asia still cringe at what took place in Rwanda in her darkest hour. May God bless Rwanda.

For me I associate village with some traditional way of living; such as traditional buildings, open firewood kitchen etc. This however seem more like a low income area as opposed to being a village. Also, it appears to be somewhat well populated, villages are usually sparsely populated or at least not as dense as in what this video is showing. Minus the modern amenities, villages can be a place to get away from stressful city and fast pace life. This community seem to be rather too active for a village.
