I especially love how the Taylor impersonator is a nurse and uses that to say the whole pen thing is to take pressure off her median nerve, assuming folks will let that go. Holding it between two middle fingers like Taylor does has a very similar amount of pressure since it just rests against the nerve, anyway. It specifically allows for motor movement of the fingers and, thus, spreads out to the fingers. Not just between the thumb and index. Most of us with nerve issues just grip it in a claw and have far more illegible handwriting XD

I was a Cher and ABBA tribute in the UK for many years. I loved it and performed all over the country. There is a legitimate industry of impersonation and performing, I think it's the Internet and social media boom that makes people crazy. this!! I have worked in the live entertainment industry for nearly a decade and have worked very closely with some of the best tribute artists out there. The huge difference between tribute artistry and impersonation is one word: respect. Tribute artists actually care and put effort into capturing the full essence of a musical artist, normally due to the connection and admiration they themselves have for the artist they're tributing. Their work gives people the opportunity to feel as though they're seeing an artist they never would've had the chance to (be it because the artist has since passed, they're unable to afford concert tickets / travel, etc.) People who impersonate musical artists / celebs just for the attention and mania give these performers such a bad name, and it greatly minimizes the work that goes into true, heartfelt tribute artistry.

I believe the reason Alexander Wang did the campaign is they used the tag “100% authentic”. Because designer bags are often ripped off and replicated. So they were playing off that idea with the replica celebrities. However, their statement saying imitation is the best form of flattery, flies in the face of that idea! Because they absolute hate it when people make replicas, so it doesn’t make sense. It’s hypocritical.

I don't think it is hypocritical. If someone copies you of course that is extremely annoying and for brands it may even cut into their sales (but in reality when it comes to designer brands it doesn't work that way and may actual boost sales) so of course you "don't like it" but there is nothing you can actually do about it but chose to see it as flattering bc they would only copy someone or something worth copying.

My dad is a singer and actually sounds like different artists. Elvis, Sinatra, even Louie Armstrong, which is bold. I don't think there's anything wrong with it. It's that blurring of the line of reality and delusion. Sometimes though, I feel like people get fueled on by the videos and all the attention on different platforms of social media, and it spirals quickly. To me, at the end of the day, any videos drawing attention to these people who take it way too far, are perpetuating the problem. I've never heard or seen any of these people, but now I have. Luckily, I'm an adult and don't care to go look them up, but younger kids and teens, that's a whole different situation. They're gonna look now. I get the attention in videos like this, is to stop those accounts or people, but at the same time what content could then be churned into these kinds of videos. It's never ending.

And in this case, for trying to ride off the celebrity lookalike schtick, these adults could be spending tons of their family's money trying to chase this fame.
