When she was told to smile you see her blinking back tears. She had to fight her knee jerk reaction to save Patsy and continue to fool Kilgrave. This scene is proof that there was no redemption for Kilgrave. To the very end, he wanted control over Jessica and follow the old habits of the cycle of abuse and control. They could never have been a successful dynamic duo whatever the wishful thinking of fans:(

With powers like these any redemption was impossible anyway. The guy had world at his fingertips for decades, everything he wanted was his for taking. That twists you in a ways you can't imagine. Especially if it starts when you are prepubescent child, at that point we are all kind of psychopaths. But most of us find out that there are limits. Kilgrave had the opposite experience.

Kilgrave is like Anthony from the Twilight Zone episode "It's A Good Life" all grown up in that his powers made it impossible for his parents or anyone for that matter to correct his behavior and help him develop a moral compass or respect for others' rights so he grew up into a spoiled, sociopathic manchild.

Also, he had framed Hope for the murder of her parents, and the only way to exonerate her would've been to prove that Kilgrave is real and can control people. However, Jessica wasn't able to do that, and eventually Hope even killed herself just so that Jessica would no longer hold back and potentially get more people hurt.
