Kill Bill is poetry. Beatrix first slays O'Ren, a crime boss which Beatrix could have been had she stayed with Bill. Then, she slays Vernita, a happy homemaker in the suburbs living the life Beatrix could have had if Bill hadn't attacked the wedding rehearsal. She can't kill Bud, Bill's brother, because he's a stand-in for Bill himself and history repeats. Elle, who is essentially Beatrix while she worked for Bill (blonde femme fatale in a sexual relationship with Bill), kills Bud similarly to how Beatrix's betrayal "killed" Bill before. Then, Beatrix slays Elle effectively destroying her past. Finally, with her potential futures and her past gone, she exists fully in the moment and goes after Bill. History repeats; she catches his sword in her sheath and breaks his heart, again.

I love how Vol. 1 was done in a more Eastern, Chinese style film and Vol. 2 was done in an Old Western American style, showing Tarantino’s love of both genres. It’s also a testament to great writing and someone who understands that movies are meant to be entertainment and not 100% reality and not platforms for agendas.

B.B. was already in the process of becoming an assassin. Bill was training her to see death from a cold-hearted perspective and get familiar with weapons which she seemed to respond very well. It’s interesting to see how things would turn out had Beatrix supported Bill’s idea. With parents like those two, B.B. would become one hell of an assassin.

So basically my friend and I went to the movies at least once a month sometimes it was every weekend. We went to theaters to see something and it was absolutely awful and we missed the first 20 minutes but Kill Bill was just about to start. The elderly usher who was retired and worked at the theater as a hobby and for a little extra cash knew us really well and ended up seeing us in there clearly not being old enough but didn’t say anything. Thank god because that experience changed my entire life.

It could be assumed that *charm* was one of Beatrix’s natural abilities that made her a good assassin and what Bill knew would assure that Pai Mai would teach her the FPPEHT. Probably in hopes she’d teach it to him, but unfortunately, being a good liar, was also one of her natural abilities. Not telling him only proves she never truly trusted Bill… in the end, she was probably right not to.

While I'm sure Pai Mei grew fond of Beatrix, I actually think he broke his vow not to teach it to anyone the same way Hattori Hanzo broke his vow in order to make a new sword for Beatrix. He taught it to her in case she had to use it on Bill one day. It’s like both masters knew that they had created a monster in Bill that should be destroyed. These exchanges all seem to track with each other: *Budd when he finds out Hanzo made Beatrix the sword:* *Budd:* Didn't he swear a blood oath to never make another sword? *Bill:* It would appear he has broken it. *Budd:* -Them Japs sure know how to hold a grudge, don't they?- [laughs] _Or maybe … you just tend to bring that out in people._ *Bill and Beatrix about Hanzo:* *Bill:* You know, I couldn't believe it. You got him to make you a sword. *Beatrix:* It was easy. I just dropped your name, Bill. *Bill:* [chuckles] That'd do it. *Bill and Beatrix about Pai Mei:* *Bill:* Pai Mei taught you the five point palm-exploding heart technique? *Beatrix:* Of course he did. The "Of course he did" seems less about Pai Mei trusting Beatrix and more about Pai Mei NOT trusting Bill, otherwise that line comes off uncharacteristically arrogant compared to how she treats him for the rest of the scene. It’s also a play on the trope in martial arts movies where the master never teaches the student all of their moves just in case they have to battle each other down the road, they’ll still have a trick up their sleeve. It’s just in this case he taught it to the good student to take out the bad.

Pai Mei teaches NO ONE that 5 point trick, but he taught it to Beatrix and she used it to kill bill. Hattori Hanzo swore an oath never to make another sword, but he broke it for Beatrix so she could kill Bill. Esteban Vihaio considered Bill a son, but he betrayed Bill's whereabouts to Beatrix, allowing her to locate and kill Bill. Bill's father figures don't seem to be very pleased with how Bill turned out! Or maybe he just tends to bring that out in people?
@kazzlie4510
@kazzlie4510 9 ай бұрын
I believe they all had their reasons. Hatori Hanzo felt extreme guilt for teaching Bill and him becoming what he was that he felt obligated to make the sword to stop him. Pai Mei probably respected Beatrix because she was the best. And Esteban, he’s not the best person so betraying him wasn’t a big deal to him. Or another reason, he was telling the truth and Bill wanted to be located.

David Carradine’s monologue about superheroes alter egos and how they pertain to Beatrix is one of the best monologues in film history. Not only is he giving the best performance of his life but the writing and directing is flawless. And yes he could in fact play that awesome flute. Also the 3 Inch Punch which Beatrix uses to escape the coffin is a real life martial arts technique. Unfortunately they proved on Mythbusters that the weight of the dirt would not only make it impossible but even if they did break through she would’ve been crushed by the weight of the dirt. Still an amazing scene though.

Tarantino is a master at crafting tension. Also, as much as I dislike Daryl Hannah's character, I see her as a tragic character. It is my belief that Bill recruited her, seduced her, and trained her in an effort to replace Beatrix. And, she knew she was always competing against or being compared to Beatrix, which is why she was so obsessed with her. In my head canon, Daryl Hannah, though totally blind, is still a trained student of Pai Mei. Elle will find Vernita Green's daughter (whom Beatrix told to eventually come find her if she wanted revenge) and train her as the instrument of her revenge against Beatrix. Beatrix will naturally train her daughter Bebe as well, so there will be an inevitable confrontation between the young students and the mother-masters who raised and trained them.

The connection between Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction: Beatrix is a role played by Mia Wallace. If you remember the conversation between her and Vinny in the celebrity diner. Instead of “Force Fox Five” they got the “deadly viper assassination squad”. In Tarantino films some movies are “real life” and others are movies within that world. I am SHOCKED you both thought the reason she was so emotional in the bathroom at the end was because of killing Bill. She was clearly crying tears of joy that her daughter was both alive, and (now) safe. Imagine going on that kind of revenge spree while under the assumption your baby was 4 years dead, and then finding her alive. That is why she was crying, not because she murdered a former associate (for the 5th time).

31:59 despite everything, I still liked Bill... up until this one line: "Not your decision to make." Didn't really judge him TOO harshly BEFORE 'cause they were ALL assassins, including the Bride. All of 'em were already severely, morally deficient. But for him to claim that it wasn't her decision whether or not the daughter was to be raised as an assassin is, to me, akin to saying women don't have autonomy over their own bodies... and no right to choose whether or not to have an abortion. The ONLY difference between The Bride's right to choose and the usual case of a woman having her "freedom of choice" is the Bride was choosing to remove her daughter from a dangerous future, while Bill would not have.

This story was a masterpiece of storytelling. Uma Thurman deserved an Oscar, but she wasn't nominated. For me, the only Tarantino film that matches the intensity of this story was the first half of "From Dusk Til Dawn". He only directed the first half of the film as a crime story and also starred in it, the 2nd half was a horror story directed by Robert Rodriguez.

The amusing thing to me in this movie is that the only person Beatrix kills is Bill. Budd was killed by Elle using the Black Mamba as a weapon, Elle may or may not be dead but she's certainly alive when Beatric leaves... Kill Bill 2 is my favorite of the two, but it wouldn't be as good without Kill Bill 1 to set it up, it really is one long movie in two parts. Some days I like Kill Bill (the whole thing) better, other days I like Pulp Fiction better. Those are my top Tarentino picks.

I'm pretty sure they got that, they were just thinking about how suspicious it would have looked to everyone in that church. Parents and children kissing eachother on the mouth is normal in some places, but in most of the US that's pretty weird behaviour.

This is my favorite movie, and i see it as 1 movie. The emotions wrapped around intense action. You get these were her friends. I think what isn't said is Darryl Hannah's character was replacing Beatrix during the coma and they had similar niches. They were really the only ones with deep rivalry. Im kind of glad that Beatrix didn't get Bud because he was family - even just technically. And the Superman discussion was writer's GOLD.

One movie I think Quentin referenced about being buried alive is a Dutch movie I think called Spoorlos which got a terrible American remake called 'The Missing' Really good example of American movie executives trying to make a happy ending from a film completely missing the point of why the original is so chilling. Such a shame because Jeff Bridges gave a great performance playing a villain for a change with good support from Kiefer Sutherland and Sandra Bullock

I highly, HIGHLY suggest that you guys do Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. However, I equally suggest you do some research about Charles Manson, Spahn Ranch, and the Tate/Labianca murders to REALLY understand and appreciate the gravity of that movie. No amount of research into those events and their impact on the American psyche will spoil the movie, it will only enhance it. For me, it’s Tarantino’s most emotional film, but you really have to know some history to tap into the payoff.

@@EFUwazurike being completely blind is something different. I've always believed, and I still do, that Elle (blind and defenseless) is killed by the snake she brought to kill Budd, a Black Mamba. Elle is killed by Black Mamba, just like O-Ren and her little army, Vernita, Budd and Bill.

@@rschroev Nah it just makes sense with the overall theme for the villain, defeated and blinded to be left to die, only to come back for revenge in some way later. I'm thinking, she may take Vernita's daughter as her protege considering they will both want her dead.

@rschroev 9 ай бұрын
@@Luciphell To me it makes perfect sense for Vernita's daughter to grow up as a warrior and take revenge all on her own, not unlike O-Ren's back story. Then again, nobody's dead until we see the dead body ... we don't see the dead body, so Elle might still be alive. But personally, I like the Black Mamba connection better.
@Luciphell
@Luciphell 9 ай бұрын
@@rschroev Keep in mind Vernita's fake suzy homemaker life with the doctor and her daughter who knew nothing but a nice two parent household filled with love. That was likely the only thing bad to ever happen to her, and it wasn't nearly so traumatic. Especially considering all the things Matsumoto did to O-Ren's mother on that bed before he killed her that they didn't add to the film. So her path wouldn't mirror O-ren's unless she sought out someone to guide her, and the only one able to and with the motive for it would be Elle.
