Thank you for the video. I beg to differ on the garbage disposals are a necessity. I hate them, and they're gross! I would much rather compost my produce and use in the yard, garden, compost bin🙏🌎☘️🌳

It is possible to remove the black guard and clean that. I would do that at some point during the garbage cleaning process. Also, if it is really yucky, you can install a new one then using an old toothbrush, clean it periodically.

Good tips, Jay. Believe it or not, insinkerator recommends cleaning with ice. You run cold water down the drain and throw handfuls of ice in the unit while it's running. The ice freeze, seizes, and scrapes off the stinky slimy residue that forms inside. It works great.

Thanks for the info, Dennis! This is a great insight. Depending on how many tips like t this we get from our viewer family (thanks for being one of our subs!), we may do a follow up video and we'll mention this and give you credit for it. Thanks for writing! Best, DFJ

They also say the ice sharpens the blades, does it? I have no idea but I do it occasionally.
@denrayr3 жыл бұрын
@@uf1978 I don't think so, but they aren't really blades anyway. They are more like spinning weights. The food debris flings towards the outside of the chamber that has slits in it. The weights hit the food and shears it into small enough pieces to fit through the slits and run down the drain. If the piece is large and tough, the weight will smack it and pivot, so the rotor can keep spinning. The weights will keep beating on the object until it breaks down. That's why the disposal sounds rough at first.

I've used leftover Citrus fruit peels to freshen the garbage disposal. But for cleaning and also declogging I've used baking soda and vinegar. 1 cup of each and let sit for an hour. Then pour boiling water down the drain. Do you have any way to get a dishwasher to stop smelling in between washes?

How do I keep my washer from slide across floor while washing
@DirtFarmerJayАй бұрын
I suspect this is happening when the spin cycle happens. If so, you will need to "corral" the machine by putting it inside a curbed in area. Ours is set inside a heavy duty plastic tray with a raised edge all around it. The tray is secured to the floor. You can get these trays at the home improvement stores. Here's a link for one at Home Depot: www.homedepot.com/p/Oatey-28-in-x-30-in-Plastic-Washing-Machine-Pan-with-1-in-Furnished-Drain-Adapter-34067/100080446

when you're finished with the Borax....fill the disposal with ice...wait 10mins...Fire-up the disposal until the ice is pulverized...then turn the faucet on (cold)....you'll be stunned at the gunk stuck in that piece of equipment....If you're on septic...use your disposal as little as possible...
