"Where do I start?" is a common question asked amongst beginners in lawn care and the answer is almost always to start by killing weeds. In this video I'm going over what I believe to be the most effective, cheapest, and easiest way to make sure you kill weeds and are simply left with the beautiful grass in your yard.
This video goes step by step over using the Spectracide Weed Stop for Lawns product; however, you can go through the exact same process with any of the major weed killer concentrates. The only things that will change are some of the label instructions including when and how much to apply in a given amount of volume for your square footage.
In order to get started, you'll need to know how big your yard is. Go ahead and watch this video to make sure you have an accurate measurement and are using the right amount of product.
• How to MEASURE Your Ya...
Feel free to leave any comments and questions you have down below and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you as always for watching.

Love spectracide. I use the Scotts 2 gal battery sprayer with some aftermarket tips for a wider application. I always add some blue marking dye to better track my pattern. Really shows up on those dandelions.

I use this same method on my lawn. Now that my lawn is well established I usually spray once in may and I'm good for the rest of the year. It also depends on this crazy midwest weather because I don't like to spray when it's cold or the product looses some efficacy

Right. Stuff just works and application cost is inline with just about any herbicide.

I can't wait to see how you get rid of grassy weeds. I like speed zone and Q4. I have mostly just been using Q4 for spot spraying.

Better than granular weed killer but not ideal. Goes out with a high volume that can wash it off more than get it to stick. Also difficult to apply accurately from a rate perspective

Jason good video, with this product do you have to water the yard after a few day? Thanks
@JasonSeiberlich

This is foliar uptake. No soil residual in this product so no watering is of any use. In fact, we want no water for at least 24 hours.

Hey Jason,do you have a good source to identify weeds? I'm in Iowa and have this crap popping up,but not even Earl May can tell me what it is. Or maybe people won't say so they don't tell you wrong. Liability issue I'm sure.

Universities often have listings of weeds and a description, photos, etc. Outside of that I'm also not great at weed identification.

What do you do if you have left over in the sprayer? Also what's the best way to clean the sprayer and dispose of the bottles?
@JasonSeiberlich
@JasonSeiberlich 2 жыл бұрын
Just the little bit the sprayer won't get out then rinse and dump into a foliage free part of your property. Somewhere it won't run off. If a fair amount go back over at a pace where you can cover the whole area. Rinse a few times and then run water through the wand. Again, somewhere it's not going to kill anything and not run off.

Would not be my first choice for broad leaf. Can work well in partnership with some other actives in grass weed control, though. As an additive, fine, but not advised to run alone, especially on broadleaf.

How much product for a 2 gallon hand sprayer ? I’m bad with math and instructions and I’m in Midwest Wisconsin
@JasonSeiberlich

6.4 oz per gallon. 2 gallons would then be just under 13 oz.

How safe is this for pets? Want to tackle some weeds and dandelions in my back yard but that’s where my dog usually spends most of his time. If I spray the night before would it be safe the next day to let him be in the back yard ?
@JasonSeiberlich

Dew can reactivate it a little bit. If you did it at night I'd just try to keep the dogs and kids out until the dew dries the next morning.

@@JasonSeiberlich Fair enough. I have a bad Bindweed problem in my yard right now. The other products I've found appear to have the same application rate (6.4/1000sqft) and only a slighter higher percentage of active ingredient.

"Do not apply to bermudagrass over 90F" does that mean it's also a good bermudagrass killer that's trying to choke out my fescue?
@JasonSeiberlich
@JasonSeiberlich Жыл бұрын
No. That applies to all grass types as well generally, although it might be 85 for the cool season grasses. Basically just means it can cause some damage if applied at too high a temperature. If it's hot enough for this product to damage or kill bermuda it will be more than hot enough for it to damage or kill fescue.
