Diesel Injector Cleaning with Liqui-Moly Diesel Purge

Ford Ranger 3.2 This is a quick, cheap and easy way to give your injectors a clean. Helps to quieten noisey injectors, improve fuel economy and smoother running. Obviously it can't repair badly worn or damaged injectors.

The cost at the start of the video was 20, then 25 then at the end of the video was 30. Inflation is a bitch. But seriously, great video. I waited till my tank was empty and threw the can in Nd drove around for 20 minutes. Engine much smoother and no more spluttering on cold starts.

👍At 5:30 when you are riving the engine your intake hose is expanding due to age, it will expand even more when the engine is hot and the bonnet is closed, replace both intake hoses and you will have a noticeable throttle response guaranteed. The other intake hose is from the turbo to the intercooler, I replaced mine with silicone hoses because the are much stronger and thicker.

It’s worth noting relay 40 on a 2015 model is the brake lights. Fuel pump on a 2015 PX2 is 32, the larger relay just behind relay 40. Definitely worth checking before starting.

Thanks mate, did it tonight, the ranger is running a lot smoother, thought all these products were probably snake oil. I did use someone's suggestion, used a z4 filter from Supercheap $5 on the return line. Really appreciate the vid👍👍👍👍👍

Whats a Z4 filter and why do you run it on the return line?

@@michaelsuttner3954 you can use any inline fuel filter on the return line. Why? Because you don't want any contaminants returning into your clean Liqui Moly circulating back to the injectors. Like the man said stop before the the Liqui Moly is finished, and what is lift in the container you can put in your fuel tank.

If I may suggest putting a small fuel filter on the return line. When i looked into doing this for the first time on my Ranger a year ago I saw a few people recommended this. They showed some small black particles that the filter trapped that got loosened up by the cleaning action of the injector cleaner. And not wanting this to be fed back into the high pressure pump and injectors I fitted one. I also saw some debris caught in my filter. This may not happen if you regularly run this procedure on your vehicle but I won't take the risk.

If you have any rough running or hesitation then go for it. I think there would be a noticeable difference after 80K even if you didn't have obvious issues. Even just in the tank is a positive step every second service.

8:38 you don’t want any of that stuff in fuel tank, because is going to lift all the dirt debris and clog your system you just cleaned. Big mistake, once you done cleaning process, you should disconnect only one pipe coming from tank and let remaining clean solution run to you tin . That way not allowing cleaner get to car tank. Done it myself, ended up replacing all injection system 😢

Put two paper inline filters in the middle of your made up fuel line hoses; one for direct and one for return; easy, and you'll see the change of colour in the return which indicates cleaning; both stopping contaminants being recirculated. 'Plastic' bottle (and non actual fuel line hoses as some use) are not good once you're at operating temperature for long, as they want to deform (could want to melt too if you left long enough); better using a glass or metal container (if you can get one with a plastic screw cap, just drill two holes for the fuel lines!).

Is it really necessary to disable the LP fuel pump to do this? Is it ok to alternatively plug the filter's HP output and return lines? That should force all fuel through the filter to go straight back to the tank via return. Am just wondering because I've tested a similar procedure on a VW TDI and found it easier to do than digging through manuals trying to figure out which fuse to pull, not to mention spill risk if the wrong fuse is pulled. But it's always super easy to identify which lines to pull at the filter and in doing so, you also know which lines to plug.

Hey buddy, thanks for the vid, very handy. I've got a 2011px1 and the fuse layout is completely different to yours. It's actually missing the fuel pump fuse that, as per the manual, should be in the engine bay. There is one in the cabin, but as per the comments of others on here, the engine dies without that fuss inserted. Any ideas? Cheers

would need to double check if the 2011 has an electric pump, many early models didn't. If it doesn't have an electric pump then no fuse needs to be removed

It’s a little different for the earlier models. I’m still trying to figure it out myself. But you’ve got to go to the fuel filter an disconnect the red ones and then disconnect the blue lines and run a tube between them. It’s not as easy as it is with the 2015+ models.

One concern is that you're pumping a solvent through the HP pump without the lubricity of diesel. It would be similar to using the likes of petrol and scouring the pump... I'd definitely be inclined to dilute it with more diesel than what was pumped back at startup

the liquid moly 'PURGE' is made to run through the HP pump. it feels very much like diesel - very oily compared to the additives that just go in the tank

@@killawattgarage Agree that it's made to go through the pump, however I'm assuming that would be when diluted with Diesel. The tolerance in a HP pump is so fine. I've seen cases of around 5 litres of petrol that's been mixed with 60+ litres of diesel do catastrophic damage to the pump

????? I watched the video and couldn't understand what pushes fuel to the high-pressure pump because the pump doesn't suck. I tried it and it didn't work as soon as I disconnected the fuel supply line the engine didn't start. I tried even to connect the relay back and close the hole but with the same result. Kia Sorento diesel 2.2L.
