Killdeer Bird Protecting It's Eggs

I found this bird at my work. It laid it's eggs in the gravel near the road. Anytime I went near it the bird did this weird broken wing dance. The eggs blend in very well with the gravel. The bird is a Killdeer bird. When I approach the nest the bird acts like it's wing is broken and does the broken wing dance. Also, they lay their eggs directly on the ground with no nest.
