you would be surprised about how much early 1970's Opel Manta and Kadett are still around in the Netherlands... the engine and gearbox of these cars are fabulous in their endurance! treat the rust pronlem in advance and you have a very nice car that doesn't cost you an arm and a leg for years to come.

A used 1972 Opel Manta Rallye with a manual transmission was my first car. For its target market there was nothing better including the Datsun 510 and Ford Capri which was more of a Euro muscle car (I owned a gen 2). Handling was fun with it coil springs all round and sporty steering. The interior was probably the best in class/price aside from the wood stickers dash. The seats and VDO gauges were above average if you’re into affordable, sporty coupes if this era. In the end I got t-boned in it and I walked away without a scratch.

The Opel Manta 1 still is an outstanding looking car, but lacked serious power, I saw a Manta with a I6 modified by the owner! Remember the Ford Capri offered from 1,600cc all the way to 5L V8!

Later modifications HAVE made rotaries last 80000 miles, and a firm in England has further solved problems, by fitting an oil cooler!
