"I could be dead right now, there is no other way to put it"
When 17 year old Ashley Reeves doesn’t arrive home before her curfew in April 2006, her mom knows something is wrong, especially after finding hundreds of incoming calls on her daughter’s phone records. No one knows where she could have gone, but the harassing caller would end up breaking the case entirely, and shed a whole new light on a neighborhood figure no one ever suspected, all while Ashley fights for her life, while her killer goes line dancing minutes after the murder.

I say lie and say it’s been about two days so I’m calling in and by the time they are in on it it’s worth it and the evidence proves you lied…But proves it wasn’t you and you care. And gets them found faster. Plus what’s the biggest case out there. Missing persons. So a bit of a lie since we have a stupid two day rule is fine. Ya know. They won’t care at that point. Assuming it’s true. Which again usually is. Cause again they ask if they are likely to run away and basics that gets eliminated. In the end we’d have less dead persons and more solved cases. So Ye. Sorry. I’m baked 😅I hope I wrote my flood of thoughts t okay enough for someone to get it. 🤪

Hopefully one day they’ll learn. It seems like law enforcement would use a lot less resources just looking into a missing person while there’s still time, versus the resources it takes to handle a murder investigation.

My guess was because it was a small town (I think), it's more socially accepted for everyone to spend more time around each other. And from the sounds of the interview, the mom didn't know the extent of their contact because the younger sister discovered all the calls from him only after her disappearance. So I think part of their interaction was hidden from the Mom and what the Mom witnessed was like a small-town friendship of sorts. Also, people with these tendencies tend to be skilled at deceiving people around them and gaining their trust.

This is one of them, because they "sucked" at murdering someone it doesn't carry near as much weight? ....in my mind, the intention was exactly the same, to kill this poor girl. The fact she escaped with her life should be her success and victory alone. Not somehow a benefit to the aggressor's sentencing. It makes so little sense.

I heard about this story on another channel that went into the gruesome details and it was absolutely BRUTAL . The fact that she is alive is seriously a miracle, she is one strong soul and I'm glad she has no recollection of the attack. But it bothers me that because she had such a strong will to live, he didn't end up getting life. His intention was to kill her, he thought she was dead when he left her there. He 100% should have gotten life. 20 years is crazy light for what he did. And the lack of remorse he felt by dumping her body in the woods and going DANCING afterwards! True monster. She was 17 years old.. *17* ! Preyed upon by a teacher. She should hold absolutely NO blame whatsoever on anything that happened to her. She didn’t lead him on, she was in a loving, serious long term relationship, she genuinely & innocently thought he was a ‘good friend’ & that’s exactly how these predators start out; they’re charismatic, friendly, complimentary, act like ‘one of your buddies’ & how ‘it’s all got to be on the hush’ due to his job, & when they’ve got their victims where they want them (trusting), they go in for the pounce, & when they’re rejected.. their ego gets hit. It breaks my heart she ever questioned ‘that she did anything wrong’ to trigger that attack, & as for that interviewer asking if she saw ‘red flags’ - she was 17 for goodness sakes! But what a fighter! She’s shown him, that’s for sure! She’s made the most remarkable recovery, & gone on to not only fulfil her dreams, but to become a mummy twice over. So many laws and sentencing lengths are completely messed up, especially when compared side by side.

@Vero E Stop judging victims and potential victims. Start judging CRIMINALS. “Why are you so creepy? Why do you prey on children? Why do you Rape? Amazing Ashley. I remember (I live in Brussels) when one of my three daughters told me she received a message from a teacher at secondary school via facebook. I asked her why facebook? There are so many other avenues to communicate such as smartschool. Next day i went to the school and demanded explicitely and forcefully that no teacher ever contact my teenage kids again via social media.

I have to say this is such a great format for true crime content! It feels so much more respectful of the victims and the survivors to have the story be told by them and to not go into excruciating detail about the assaults. It isn't told like a scary story, but rather a respectful look at a survivor's journeys to get justice. Keep up the amazing work!

i just wanted to say how much i appreciate your channel! there are only so many true crime stories you can hear about before it begins to have a serious effect on your psyche. just listening to the countless people who lost their lives at the hands of these horrible human beings is incredibly depressing and rage-inducing. don't get me wrong, these stories also depress and anger me - the fact that anyone is subjected to this kind of behaviour is sickening to say the least - but the difference with your channel is that you share stories where victims become survivors! the ending is a happy one, something that offers hope and inspiration. that maybe these monstrous criminals aren't nearly as charming or clever as the media often makes them out to be, and that we're more resilient than we give ourselves credit for. thanks for everything y'all do!

Said something to set him off? Sir no one deserves that stop blaming a CHILD ugh do people not hear themselves when they say things out loud. People need to realize they need to take accountability for they’re actions. Like no stop being so triggered without impulse control. Nobody makes u hurt someone physically that’s something u chose to do. I hate the undertone asking what she did wrong. Why was a teacher hanging out with grooming and assaulting students from different schools. Why was he not caught sooner. Why did he the parents and bf think this behavior is normal. It’s Not.

the interrogation to get sam to confess was honestly very skillful. i tend to not trust officers -- there are far too many cases of cruel actions for me to trust the institution -- but the officer who was using a personal connection and gentle words to get a believed killer to confess was brilliant and obviously effective. if we had a system of interrogation that focused on that, we'd have a much better one.
