Luis Noronha with distortion it’s actually harder to make it clean. Right hand muting must be very very good. And goodness are you doubting Rick Graham’s technique that he hides behind high gain distortion? If gain is too high it gets over saturated it makes fast lines blurred. In the video you can hear how well defined the notes are when he shreds it. I can’t believe I’m defending Rick Graham here. Usually the mighty KZbin commenter would say ‘fast & technical but no soul or taste or whatever’.

From my 6 years of playing guitar. For me, out of all the countless hours on KZbin and hundreds of players I’ve discovered over the years. Rick is top for me. In terms of technique. Original phrasing. Slick legato. Out of everyone, for me, Rick is as close to perfection as I’ve seen anyone play. As you progress as a musician your ear develops and you can pick up people’s imperfections so much more. This though is just flawless. He’s at a level that I aspire to but know I’ll never reach. Unreal player. I know that sounds totally up his arse but I’ve came back and watched this video so many times and each time I’m in disbelief that someone can be that good. I respect the dedication to the craft.

In a harmonic-scale-context-thingy the first note is almost never the root though. An example (like Rick uses it here) would be first note major seventh, second note root, third note fifth. Not if aaaanyone would care, but just in case someone wonders and wants to use the same idea in his own stuff, haha.

Mr. Graham. I know you really hate the question "Can I have tabs?" So, I'm going to very politely ask, "Your highness Rick, may I please be granted some sheet music so I can practice this and improve my technique?" Thank you.

@RickGraham I watch this video almost every time I’m warming up to get inspired. Even if it’s way above my abilities. I was wondering if you’ve ever considered making a video showing off your guitar collection, and going over your tone setup. You always have such beautiful tones, and a deep dive into what you use, and how you setup your sound would be a treat.

burt on the comment makes an excellent point. Be inspired and sponge any technique you see and make it your own, but that does take practice and not always with playing leads to songs which is super fun. but you have to just slowly go through things and then apply them. just sharing, hang in there!
