They have an inate sense and have learned through the elders that the liver is nutrient- rich. The hunting skills are honed and passed down to generations. One can only imagine what is next for these extraordinary creatures, they are beyond highly inteligent, they are evolving into new orca species with even more complex hunting capabilty

This is Port and Starboard, Two famous Orcas on our coast off the Southern Cape of South Africa. The duo are identified as having rare and distinct collapsed dorsal fins and they are named for the nautical terms, as Port's fin collapses left and Starboard's collapses right. All types of liver are richer in vitamins and minerals than muscle meats and many fruits and vegetables. Liver contains plenty of protein, iron, and B vitamins. There is Plenty food for the Orcas here, it is certainly not a decision based on scarcity of food. I am privileged to have seen them here in Plettenberg Bay

Their dorsal fin bends or weakens mainly due to injuries or sickness. So it is possible in the wild and not only in capticity.

That was Starboard, the name of the orca. Usually, he is with Port, another male orca which also has a bent dorsal fin. They were named Port and Starboard because one of their dorsal fins flops over to the left and the other to the right. The boys are most proficient in killing sharks.

An 8 feet long GWS is no problem for a solo attack but a GWS twice the size will need more than one orca to kill it. Orcas are intelligent enough to realise when prey of a bigger size requires more of them to kill it like they do with whales bigger than the orcas themselves hence why they're known as the wolves of the ocean that they hunt in packs.

Wild orcas may go after boats, but they do not attack humans in the sea, they're exceptional creatures and shouldn't be held in captivity, they are so athletic and intelligent it just seems unbelievably cruel.

This was an unusual and fascinating news report from the world of ecology. You might not think so but many hundreds millions appreciate this piece of news they wouldn't otherwise learn about. Livers make up about a third of a sharks’ body weight and are rich in a nutritious oil called squalene, making them highly appealing to orcas. That one liver may sustain an orca for one whole day. They do, they just don't eat or hangout alone. The other great whites hunted in the past, any other orcas would stay hidden while one would stealthily come up from below and ram the shark. Orcas that beach themselves to catch seals on the beach also do that solo sometimes.

Most predators eat liver of prey first. It is fatty, tender, and full of iron. Also, Orcas are much bigger than great white sharks. As much as 4 times heavier. And a couple meters longer.
