Geoff Castellucci is amazing- he not only sang all those vocal lines, he arranged the piece (vocal tracks and instrumental), he conceptualized, produced and filmed the video, and then edited it. He recorded the music and did the initial mix before sending it on to Ed Boyer (who does the final mix for all the big a cappella groups; Geoff is a member of one, but more on that later). So he's not simply a one man band- he's a one man (plus his wife, Kathy) production company, with a little help from his friends. This video was filmed at Pattycake Productions, a video production studio owned by Geoff's very good friend Layne Stein (vocal percussionist of VoicePlay, the a cappella group where Geoff sings bass; he and Geoff trade off on arrangement/video duties for the group) and Tony Wakim (former VoicePlay baritone). The lighting was provided by Eli (rhymes with 'jelly') Jacobson; VoicePlay's tenor, lighting genius, voice actor, and occasional arranger. And if you think Geoff, solo, is impressive, you should hear VoicePlay as a whole. Each vocalist in the group brings a very different sound, but their synergy is sublime. Not only that, the creativity they bring to both the arrangement of songs, as well as the accompanying high-production videos, are unparalleled. Trust me, you will not be disappointed ducking down this rabbithole! My best suggestion as far as what to listen to next, is to look at their page and pick a song that appeals to you. You're not going to find a bad cover, although I will say that in the past couple years the guys have somehow found a new gear, and their latest releases have been... well, honestly, it's hard to find the right words to encompass what they're doing. Covering things like Metallica's 'Nothing Else Matters', Radiohead's 'Creep', Phil Collin's 'In The Air Tonight', Edvard Grieg's 'In the Hall of the Mountain King' (why yes, I did just take a hard right into classical there, and no, there are no lyrics to that piece)- big songs, and things you'd think were impractical for an a cappella group to attempt. Not so, if you're VoicePlay. It's just another challenge. They perform an expansive range of genres, have many featured vocalists (all amazing in their own ways), and don't be surprised to see some different faces as VoicePlay's lineup has changed over the years. It's a little confusing when you start, but the guys I mentioned above (Layne, Geoff, and Eli) are always there. I hope you'll consider checking them out- they are 100% independent, and don't have the promotion behind them that Home Free and PTX have, but they are easily on par with those groups. Personally, I think VoicePlay has them both beat in terms of creativity and pure artistic exploration of their craft.

@CynicalTesuji - !00% agree with this, I would add that VP have also done quite a few Disney medleys (not too surprising, as many of them have worked at either Disney or Universal theme parks, they are all Florida-based!), as well as covers that will tear at your heart like 'I Can't Make You Love Me' to covers of game-related ones like 'Dragonborn Comes' from Skyrim and the 'Halo' theme - another piece with no actual words to it - but even the composer of the original loved it! For Geoff's 'solo' work, Sixteen Tons, Big Bad John, Ghost Riders In The Sky and Way Down are just a few examples - but as others have said - you can't go wrong with any Geoff or Voiceplay cover!

I love watching reactors find Geoff for the first time..... You were wonderful. Geoff is amazing, also the bass singer for an acapella band, Voiceplay which is wonderful!! Voiceplay stopped touring when Covid shut the world down. That's when Geoff started his solo channel. He released a new one today - Folsom Prison Blues. He does a variety of genres, he has done harmony on all but one, High and Dry, and shone his clones in all but one, Sound of Silence. Subscribed in anticipation of more Geoff (and Voiceplay)!

Geoff is the bass in a top tier acapella group called Voiceplay. They are amazing, and very creative and versatile. Like Geoff, they do all their own arrangements, production, filming, editing, lighting. Arrangements are usually done by either Geoff or the beatboxer, Layne Stein.
@patriciaschuman4205 Жыл бұрын
A great singer and a great arranger as well! Don't see that anyone has said anything yet about him being a founding member of the accapella group VoicePlay. He obviously is the bass in that group and he and the beatboxer, Layne Stein, have been singing together in variations iterations of the group for over twenty years. I happened upon VoicePlay's version of Eleanor Rigby about a year and a half ago and was so intrigued by Geoff's singing (even though it wasn't nearly as deep as he performs in this song) that I immediately started watching more VoicePlay and Geoff's solo videos. And then became a patron of both after never having the slightest inclination to join anyone's Patreon. They are phenomenal and they basically do it all themselves. Layne and Geoff do almost all of the arrangements (although their tenor, Eli was the one to arrange Eleanor Rigby and just did the arrangement of their terrific version of 'Creep'. ) And Eli does the lighting and they do the staging, costuming and direct everything themselves and do all the video editing, so besides being immensely talented singers they are 'hands-on' for everything involved in their songs/videos. About the only thing they don't do is the more elaborate makeup and the camerawork (although Layne actually has done steadycam work for Geoff's videos). It's often said that Geoff is 'the gateway drug' into the VoicePlay world.

I don't know if you can handle this or not but I'm addition to all the singing and production and all that... He also plays the piano and harmonica and the instrumental aspects of the song are all plug ins that he performs on the keyboard. The talent is unending

Awesome reaction you two. Geoff usually clones himself 3-4 times for harmonies. Each has their own name and personality. Jeff, Jeoph, Goff and Daryl. He has a 5+ octave range. He released his new video at noon est today.... Folsom Prison Blues. You'll get to see a little more of what this extremely talented man can do. But you can't go wrong with anything on his channel. Everything is amazing. My favorites however are.... Rains of Castemere from Game of Thrones. Ghost Riders In The Sky. Where his 4th clone got his name. Ain't No Sunshine. The first I saw him in. Way Down by Elvis Presley. He hits a C1. And where 3 of his clones got their names. Welcome to the Geoff Castellucci rabbit hole 🐰

Nice reaction! Yes, Geoff often has that effect on people who have never heard him singing before! While Geoff usually has his "clones" on stage with him, sometimes everyone dresses up differently, and sometimes it's just multiple copies of Geoff. Occasionally it's multiple copies of Geoff, with different style of casual dress - not really costumes, just something to distinguish the different versions. Geoff's a cappella band VoicePlay often does similar things - sometimes they're all dressed up in costumes, and sometimes they're just themselves, but they always hit the vocal nail right on the head! Recommendations: Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold (the dwarves first appearance, and Geoff's most popular video), Sixteen Tons (the old Tennessee Ernie Ford song), Big Bad John (the Jimmy Dean (yes, the sausage guy) song), Way Down (the clones get names!), Blackbird (Beatles cover), Sound of Silence (no clones visible, but their voices are still there), Shenandoah (the old country song), Ghost Riders In the Sky (we meet clone Daryl for the first time!).
@DTA-Music Жыл бұрын
Great reaction! Geoff doesn't always dress in costume, but he usually does layer his audio with multi-Geoff videos to match; he's given each 'clone' a name (based on misspellings and mispronunciations of his own name!) and they've developed personality quirks of their own over time and will 'interact' with each other in small ways. Some other great covers he's done are Ghost Riders In the Sky, Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold, and The Sound of Silence, but anything in his channel is well worth a watch/listen. The a capella group VoicePlay, for whome he sings bass and does a lot of arranging, and even writes an occasional bridge to add to a song, are known as the 'theater kids of a capella' and often put together elaborate costumes and sets for their covers; they've been around for something like 25 years, but this past year or two they've really caught fire--do yourselves a favor and check out pretty much anything they've done. Some of my personal favorites are Hoist the Colours, Nothing Else Matters, We Don't Talk About Bruno, In The Air Tonight, Valhalla Calling, and Butter.
@mischiefomalley2712 Жыл бұрын
Yes, most of Geoff's solo work the last couple of years has been quad-Geoff productions, and they're each and every one amazing. Geoff has five full octaves and I believe is now edging into a sixth. His lowest note in a song to date is a B0 (the third key from end on the left/low tones end of the piano. So like. WOAH levels of low) I hope you are ready. Those who find Geoff will, without fail, be directed to the acapella group he is part of: VoicePlay. Once you react to them, the VoicePlay fandom is going to descend on your channel and go after that subscribe button like a pack of rabid weasels. We LOVE VoicePlay reactors, and doubly so for those who are first timers. And those who are still new to them. For Geoff, House of the Rising Sun and Sixteen Tons are my favourites. His coover of Sound of Silence is solo-Geoff instead of quad-Geoff, but it is differently stunning. If (be honest, when) you decide to listen to VoicePlay, I suggest starting with Dream On, Valhalla Calling, or Nothing Else Matters, there. When you do, you'll get a metric tonne of comments giving you the breakdown of who is who, who does what, and more information that you ever needed but definitely do want about all of them. Geoff, nor VoicePlay, can do any wrong. With his solo work, or with his group, Geoff always knocks it out of the park, even for those very rare songs that are not *my* particular favourite, I cannot deny that they are *excellently* adapted, laid out, and performed. Anyway, subscribed. Your reactions were brilliant. Can't wait for more. P.S. wanted to add: I am hoping if I get ahead of it now, before you even lay eyes on the man, the bald rock tenor in VP is named Eli, and it rhymes with 'jelly'. It doe *not* rhyme with 'we lie'.

Hey y'all! Welcome to the Geoff (and Voiceplay!) rabbit hole, from a new sub in the UK - you won't be disappointed! Geoff does all sorts, from Halloween (The Headless Horseman, Monster Mash) to Western (Ghost Riders in the Sky, Shenandoah) to Elvis (Way Down), From classics (House Of The Rising Sun, Aint' No Sunshiine) to mining songs (Sixteen Tons, Big Bad John) and anything inbetween! On top of that, Voiceplay (of which he is the bass - of course!) have their own range of amazing work, from Disney to Pirates, from Vikings to heart-wrenching classics such as 'I Can't Make You Love Me', from metal (Metallica's Nothing Else Matters) to rock (In The Air Tonight), and game-related covers (Dragonborn Comes from Skyrim and the Halo theme!) - just stick a pin in their playlists, you can't go wrong! 😁

This song is from the second Hobbit movie, Desolation of Smaug. It was written and performed by Ed Sheerhan and was played over the end credits. Geoff has made it his own, in his own inimatable way. He has arranged, sung, filmed and edited the whole thing. His wife Kathy helps with costumes and friends from the group VoicePlay help with lighting etc. Geoff now has 592.1K subscribers on Patreon. Only the higher levels are shown on screen and the hightest get a special mention. I am just a lowly subscriber. :)

Geoff only started doing solo music vids in 2020, when VoicePlay lost Earl and when the band couldn't tour because of lockdown. In the great majority of his solo vids, he sings four or five lyric lines and shows multiple images of himself on camera. The multiple images are called the Geofftones, and they have individual nicknames. He has other stuff on his channel. A vid about his wife Kathy's profound hearing loss (they used to perform together for Disney Orlando and on tour), some vids about how he taught himself to sing really low, and some readings of Edgar Allen Poe.
@alexwalker8440 Жыл бұрын
Not just a one-man band. He does the arrangement, sound, production, editing, lights (sometimes with help from his friends, and always his wife Kathy). I believe the only thing he doesn't do is the final edit & mix, usually done by Ed Boyer. Geoff is a musical genius! You should check VoicePlay, the acapella group where Geoff is one of the founding members and still belongs to. They are spectacular!!

Geoff will be lead and a few other characters. Voiceplay are known as both "The Theater Kids of Acapella" and The Kings of Halloween " because of their love of dressing up and performing. Geoff as well. Last year for Halloween they released " Hide and Seek (Ding Dong) with a Haunted Mansion ride theme. Right before that they released "In The Hall of The Mountain King " dressed as Trolls around a cauldron. Geoff's Halloween last year was "Ghost Riders In The Sky ". He was dressed as the 4 ghost cowgoys and the storyteller. I have that picture on my wall in a frame of the ghosts with his autograph. He sells it and other stuff in his merch store.
