This is a hefty watch. While Martin Scorsese's films over the past decade have been some of my favourites of his, this one didn't quite live up to the likes of 'Silence' or 'The Irishman'. Regardless, it's still a brilliant film, but my expectations are probably the highest for a new film from the master himself.
(Remember, it's just my opinion)

Thanks for watching. There's so much that I love about this film but for me, it didn't fully live up to its potential. I'll add that I did really like the ending. I think it was wrapped up in a creative and unexpected way. Let me know how you're feeling about it. Where does this one rank for you among Scorsese's filmography?

I think the film was deficient in showcasing real emotion- between any of the characters and the actress’s haunting appearance was not enough to make her a compelling character. I think Marty played it safe and didn’t really elevate the native Americans. We learned what happened but not too much about their culture.

It's STILL Hollywood when it's all said and done, of course they didn't go ALL the way there. The most absurd part was portraying the white FBI agents as if they would care about solving those murders.

Reading the book, or researching the source materials, would probably give you a better understanding of DiCaprio's character. Under-writing him was ...generous to Earnest Burkhart. As is your summation of him being 'just an idiot with a bit of a conscience.' The man was no mastermind but he would have murdered his own children if he hadn't been stopped, and turning on his uncle was just a means to get a lighter sentence. If he had a conscience, it was buried under miles of self-interest.

I think my summation was a bit of an oversimplification but generally I think through Leo's performance and Scorsese's direction there was a sprinkle of humanizing. Of course, he is just as evil as you describe but the film didn't expand on his character as thoroughly as I would've hoped. I'll definitely consider reading the book since the story is quite enticing to begin with.

If The Godfather was made today, some people would still say it is too long and boring. Attention spans amongst some are not what they used to be unfortunately

I found the film enjoyable but in the middle it became a little stale and it became really obvious what was going to happen. I would give it 6/10. All i can see online are people calling it a masterpiece and going a little over the top so i really appreciate this honest and balenced review.

I was left disappointed after my first viewing. I love a lot of Scorsese’s films, but this one leaves a lot to be desired. So I was confused when I went online to see the majority of film bros raving about it. Honestly it just made me want to see There Will be Blood again lol.

The character of Daniel Day Lewis as the villain is brilliant and more interesting to see than the main character of this movie who is not charismatic at all, and I´am a big Leo stan

Di Caprio is a big weakness in this movie, he has never been a good actor to me (De Niro and Gladstone were excellent), except for when he was really good in Wolf of Wall St..

Exactly my argument.... Scorsese was the WRONG choice to tell this story. This is just a little above 'meh' in quality when, in the hands of a more visionary risk-taking director, could've been an all-timer like 'There Will Be Blood.' This is a HUGE missed opportunity.

Having read the book, I think there’s a lot of detail thematically aligned with what the film is trying to say that gets left out. In particular the scene with the burning fields irked me.

Best film of 2023. I literally watched as many 2023 pictures as I could to see which one could unseat *KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON* and none did. Here is what I watched in 2023 - Air - Past Lives - Spider Man: Across the Spider Verse - Oppenheimer - Barbie - Beau is Afraid - Theater Camp - Anatomy of a Fall - Killers of the Flower Moon - El Conde - The Holdovers - Renfield - The Killer - Priscilla - Cocaine Bear - Dream Scenario - Saltburn - Napoleon - Silent Night - Godzilla Minus One (and Minus Color) - Poor Things - The Boy and the Heron - A Thousand and One - Asteroid City - Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves - Rustin - American Fiction - The Iron Claw - Ferrari - Afire - May December - Maestro - Sound of Freedom - The Zone of Interest - Origin - Season of the Snow - The Taste of Things - Bottoms - BlackBerry - All of Us Strangers

Ernest no hace nada, solo observa. Igual que nosotros. Ernest ademas era el personaje mas neutral. Creo que es una elección osada y la verdad bastante interesante. Permite ponernos en medio y observar impotentes la masacre.

A good review and like many I had some thoughts after watching about whether the emphasis on the DiCaprio/DeNiro characters was the right way to go. That sent me down a rabbit hole and if you’re interested I posted a video on my channel about a week ago about how this story was actually handled before in a studio film from 1959 (when the production code was still in effect). It made me more comfortable with the storytelling choices here

i think that you hit the nail on the head with every thing except the lily gladstones performance, it was bland. And people may say that was just her character but i've seen many bland characters been played well before this was not it.

Hmm it's always interesting to see how different everyone interprets a performance. I really feel like she conveyed a lot of subtle inner conflict and hesitancy without ever phoning it in. The more dramatic scenes were quite effective partly for that reason. Quite a subjective thing of course.

It was good, but I think Oppenheimer takes the cake for best film of the year so far. Unfortunately I think Killers of the Flower Moon will take the Oscar over it.

I thought Oppenheimer had some of the poorest dialogue ever. Chris Nolan is always terrible at dialogue, though. The movie was filled with so many cuts, especially in the first half of the movie, that I think it was to mask the fact that Chris Nolan would freak tf out if he actually had to rely on lengthy drama and dialogue
@writingwofl5836
@writingwofl5836 9 ай бұрын
@@Seamus_Dolan Somewhat agree. His dialogue is often the weaker part, but in collaboration like with his brother, he produced some fine scripts like for the dark knight and interstellar (the latter one has more problems though). And I remember not being too bothered by it while watching Inception. Thus, Oppenheimer being a dialogue-heavy film, it shows.
