5150 family of Amps continues to be the best metal amps. EVH and James Brown's true gift to the world. There's never been a better time to be a metal head. So much great affordable gear. This amp doesn't even have competition. What else is close in the price range?

@DillonMcAuliffe lol that’s your problem. The plugin cope is so old. “Bbbbut it’s just as good bro”. 😂 Sure buddy. Keep telling yourself that. You wanna write and make demos with plugins have fun. You wanna make serious recordings use an amp.

I like the tone of the Marshall DSL amps a bit better but they are harder to get........ those Marshalls have more mid-range BITE. I would take either amp though. Both BEASTS.

@killertone do these amps have to be turned up high volume to get the rich tube tines? Or can it do well at low volumes for home use?

I think all amps sound better turned up a bit but that being said, this amp has a great master volume design and sounds really good at lower volumes.

Yeah the amp sounds great, but let’s talk about the player. Simply some of the tightest thrash riffs I’ve ever heard and a great lead as well. Always love your playing in these videos!

This sounds fantastic! I am loving the classic 5150 tones with some well deserved modern additions. I grew up with the classic 5150 as my amp for most of my formative years. I may have to pick this guy up for the nostalgia alone! Great review and sick riffs!

This clinched it for me. I was on the verge of buying the 6L6 Iconic but when I heard about the EL34 version, I held off until clips became available. Great demonstration

I can hear they took a lot of gain out of it and spent the time to balance it better sonically. The burn doesn’t sound bad here and actually seems to compliment the amp well. I see they also added onboard reverb like the 40W combo has which is great - only wish it was channel assignable.

I like how the color themes of each version of the Iconic pay homage to the amps Eddie used before his first signature amp was designed. Seems to me the 6L6 nods toward the SLO and the EL34 nods towards the JMP, in terms of cosmetics.

I had the EVH II with EL34s and to me it's not as slamming maybe better for thrash or 80s stuff I liked the 6l6 better but I bought the el84 version off a friend who wasn't using it in his studio. I played one gig with it like 50Watt version and it had no headroom.

What speakers are in that cab? I feel like they’ve dialed back some gain (which is fine, by 3 on the red channel with the burn it was already ridiculous) and I feel like the red channel has the midrange that was really lacking on the old one unless you had an EQ in the loop. I wish they would say whether they did some voicing tweaks, but to my ears it sounds like they did.

It seems as though we are not able to access the amp's overdrive function without having to physically push it with your finger. I don't understand how that is not accessible with the footswitch.
@jamesbrown74684 ай бұрын
@thrash8315 the switches change the gain and tone directly similar to the original block letter and would have added a lot of cost (and probably need more knobs to balance the levels) to make them footswitchable with relays etc. So these were designed to let you find the main two sounds to start. But it also has the footswitch Boost system does provide about 8dB more input gain and the Boost knob is a volume boost for solos. So it’s essentially 4 different sounds from the footswitch.
