This talk was done 8 years ago. Why is this not on the market now and people are still offered just chemo?

I am working in the field of oncolytic virotherapy for more than 9 years. I engineered several oncolytic viruses mostly from Adenovirus and Vaccinia virus. I did many in vitro and in vivo studies to check the potency and safety of this kind of drug. Honestly speaking, I have pretty great feeling and hope in near future. Yes! I strongly believe that Oncolytic viruses will be the key drug but we need to understand more about tumor microenvironment, immune status and barriers of delivery system to the target. Thanks Dr. Lee for your nice lecture.

Thanks for doing the good work. I am an electrical engineer. I always wonder what kind of equipment will help you guys. I had surgery once and feel like the medical equipment is a few step behind the semiconductor industry. The Davinci surgery system is the only one I feel like they are doing a good job marrying these 2 fields.

What type cancers does it target? My wife died 21 years ago from colon cancer. They told me that colon and certain other cancers are especially aggressive

Also, are there any studies on this? My friends sister is deeply fighting cancer. Is there a way she could get on a study?

I went to grad school in a lab down the hall from Patrick's lab. Every one of my relatives thought I was working on curing cancer, but I wasn't, I'm a microbiologist. But my buddies in his lab did the work that he's talking about, they actually cured cancer! I finally had a satisfying story to share with relatives.

But then why does the Human Papilloma Virus cause oral cancer?
@jaydenong55038 жыл бұрын
not all viruses are chosen to cure cancer, only some could. Before they are injected into the human body, or straight into the tumor, viruses that are chosen will need to be genetically modified.

All amazing stuff however cancer and the sub sequential surgery, treatment and death are better for business, Let me ask you why would companies save lives instead of making more money, this is not conspiracy; this is the core principle of capitalism. Only when and if someone can find a way for it to be profitable will it be allowed....
@apophisxo44808 жыл бұрын
That is totally a conspiracy theory..Shared by many others so don't feel bad. The problem with the argument is that all scientists don't work together in a giant cabal to figure out how to make money and screw you over. Many actually want to help people and yes some just want money and recognition. There are plenty of financial rewards for developing a cure for cancer. It would be impossible to keep such a thing secrete if it already existed. The company which finally develops a virus and shows results in treatment or even curing the disease will be rich beyond their wildest dreams. Gilead was charging 80,000 per treatment for Sovaldi what people are calling its Hep C cure.....Stay tuned. This entire industry is about to explode!

Apophis XO death is of course not a business but oncology is. it is not a conspiracy theory that big pharma fights against cheap but effective therapies, it is a fact.

I agree 100%. Evidence is in history. Ever since Carnegie the drug companies took over the medical schools the drug companies rule the world. A procedure will not be FDA approved ( used or presented) for use until it can be proven as poison. In other words if you can’t overdose to death it isn’t appropriate for use. Check the flexlar report of early 1900s. And cannabis, high dose vitamin C,

The core principles of capitalism are: 1. Ownership of private property; without government interference. This includes real property (real estate) and intellectual property. 2. The voluntary exchange of products, goods, or services. What you described is “crony capitalism” or what is called Italian Fascism like Mussolini had in Italy. That is an relationship between government and businesses to give an egregious monopoly over an area of production, through a “crony” relationship; which then limits true capitalism and limits the market exclusively by interfering on the ability of individuals to either compete on supply or forces individuals to only obtain demanded products from a favored supplier. I would suggest that you read Adam Smiths book THE WEALTH OF NATIONS

To everyone wondering why this isn't being used and not in the market right now. If you do some research on how expensive oncolytic virus treatment is I think you'll understand. Also this isn't perfected, things like this may take years or even a decade till they have it good enough for the use in general public.
