PRIMARY GOAL: To provide challenging gameplay bridging the gap between vanilla pubs and Controlled Difficulty.
SECONDARY GOAL: To provide a quality of life boost to the game, making it more enjoyable, more convenient, and less frustrating in various aspects.
PRIMARY GOAL is achieved through the "Turbo" servers
- Endless: Features a more dramatic difficulty scaling.
- Max ZEDs that can be alive at the same time is doubled (64)
- ZED Spawn Rate is doubled
- Wave size is doubled
- Larges have 6-player health regardless of the size of the team
- Survival: A hacked version of Controlled Difficulty
- Supports SpawnCycles and the modification of variables in order to make the game even harder than HoE.
- Main difference between this and Turbo Endless: Turbo Survival doesn't scale to the player count at all. It is fixed difficulty
There are other gamemodes that are created for fun, such as King of the Hill, as well as others we are making in the future.
The goal is to be an upgraded Vanilla. This is not a typical modded server with wacky mods, low gravity, etc. We want to make the game harder and also more enjoyable at the same time and stick to the original formula that made KF2 so fun.
SECONDARY GOAL is achieved through a package of mods put together (and partially created) by Forrest Mark X, with some influence from Tamari.
There are quality of life features such as:
- The removal of EDARs
- The removal of Spawn Raged FP and QP
- ZEDs cannot teleport around the map
- On Endless: the removal of Boom and Up Up and Decay waves
- Players drop all of their weapons when they die, instead of only the one they were holding
- Dropped weapons never despawn
- Players can view information about dropped weapons (owner, ammo, number of upgrades) by looking at them on the ground
- The ability to lock dropped weapons so no one else can pick them up. Stops people from stealing weapons and selling them.
- The ability to open the Trader pod remotely
- Increased movement speed during the Trader
- All healthbars for all teammates are visible at the bottom of the screen (great for Medics) -- a mod called FriendlyHUD made by peelz
Some vanilla features (such as weapon despawn and rage-on-spawn FP) are simply an annoyance and these changes serve to remedy those and make it feel more fun to play.
There are also UI/cosmetic changes:
- Custom chat box that supports emoji and text coloring/formatting
- Custom console
- Custom scoreboard
- ZED Time counter to show how many Commando extensions are remaining
- The ability to draw a crosshair (better than the default) onto the screen
- The ability to enable the HUD from Killing Floor 1
- The ability to change glow colors for money and dropped weapons
- .. and so much more. You can modify basically every visual element. Or you can turn them all off and make the game look like Vanilla KF2
TIME ATTACK
- Inspired by Left 4 Dead's Survival Mode
- The main objective is to survive as long as possible
- Players battle an infinite horde of increasing difficulty
- As time goes on, the max number of ZEDs that can be alive at once increases
- As time goes on, Bosses begin to spawn faster, and eventually multiple Bosses appear
- As time goes on, more Large ZEDs begin to spawn
- The trader opens at specific intervals, and players must make their purchases in real time
- Players can respawn and change perks during the trader
- Teamwork is critical to this mode, especially when dealing with multiple bosses
- Perk limits: 1 Medic, 1 Berserker, 2 of everything else maximum
- This is to preserve the integrity of records
- Records are kept by Tamari's bot that allows players to view the best times for every map
- The same system can be used to view stats and leaderboards related to Time Attack matches
- Once the game starts, anyone who joins is moved to spectator to prevent swapping players in/out or substitutions, and only players who were originally there can leave and come back
- This is to preserve the integrity of records
- Time Attack has Seasons. Each season lasts a month and adds minor variations to the gameplay to keep things refreshing. Leaderboards are wiped each season to encourage players to try old maps again on the new settings.
- Seasonal changes range from switching up the boss, to enabling Weekly Outbreak modifiers, or even increasing the difficulty scaling, as some examples
