Salt and Sanctuary / Sacrifice should get a LOT more recognition from the Souls community for being the most complete and realized 2D Souls games. They have EVERYTHING: Map: complex, interconnected, return later with an exploration tool, door does not open from this side, giant levers. Traps: will get you. Every. Single. Time. They're too well hidden. Combat: MEATY. Knowing when to attack, when to defend, and when to parry are key. Bonus points for making the parry not tied to specific weapons. Enemies: plentiful and varied, though you might notice when some are reskins of others. Bosses: not a dull moment! Death: quite punishing. You will be better off buying Bags of Salt and "lose" 20% in the purcahse, better than lose 100% to a death spot you can't return to. Character customization: not much in the appearance department, but there are Weaponry: very varied but not too customizable apiece. If you main a weapon type, you will likely need to max out all weapons of that class for different enemies. Armor: there's so much bling to be had. Stats: BOY THEY JUST COPIED THE PATH OF EXILE TREE OF SKILLS, but with a massive bonus: paying to unlock a weapon skill also comes with stat points, so you're almost never wrong in unlocking all weapon types you want to use as they're automatic investment in the stats needed. Covenants: THEY GOT COVENANTS. Sunbros. Chaos Invaders. Police. Assassins. So many! I tell you, these games are the most complete 2D Souls games out there. Oh, and we can squat. Gestures, hell yeah.

Man. I was really looking forward to this game... Kinda just wanted to make me play Salt and Sanctuary the whole time.

Yeah, to me the whole game was just off the mark. It was made by the same people, so I'm not sure what went wrong, but I couldn't even be bothered to finish it :(.

@@VaulickTheCrow well, I know what it was for me. Remember the trailer video? When it shows the stat points being spent? And you weren't being flung to Spira to have a Blitzball battle with your tumor laded dream-dad? Whole fact that they had the souls-like stat system implemented at some point and time and hit it with the ol' Boggle shake to pump out the sphere grid system is a pretty giving tell, to me. Maybe they didn't want people to be Jack of all trades like the end game in Salt and Sanctuary, but iono. Seems like they could of done something else. I also hate how the spells are tied to weapons, that crap drives me nuts as a player that wants to have things for all situations.

@@killertrip10year late, but I feel like the biggest issue is that they didn’t clarify that the game would be, more or less, independent of and more unique from sanctuary. People went into it expecting a complete sequel when it seems like that really wasn’t the devs intention

I can understand not wanting a really good item to be stuck behind the tutorial boss but why not simply have the boss give good times early that you could get mid to late game so it would at least be worth it. It's just common sense nothing is locked behind him but if you do beat him it's worth it.

The original game gave you an end game upgrade material. So it's extremely valuable as an end cap material, but not too op since you'd still need an almost fully upgraded weapon to use it.

Thx. I was wondering. 13k souls isnt terrible but if someone is skilled and experienced enough to defeat the boss, the reward toward experience doesn't seem that useful.
