@@g3now572 try the l'hiver mod on hardcore. Even harder than notr. Even though I leveled so much before the valley of mines and also slayed so many monsters in the valley I still couldn't beat the first seeker even though I spam hit him. He ended up healing himself with 30% hp all the time and sooner or later he would find one moment to hit me and after 2 hits I was dead. My strength was 70 and two handed skill 35%. I have the light dragon hunter armor now let's see if I can kill one when I spam with one handed which is faster, but I need one more level up to reach 30% one handed

Even though this was a brief (but impressive) run, it still hit me right in the nostalgia feels. I loved this game back in the day. I know it's a bit cliché to say it but... they honestly don't make games like this anymore. I mean, I guess they do - we progressed, I get that, but these old games have, for me at least, something special about them. Anyway, thanks for taking me on a quick tour of what was definitely one of the gaming highlights of my youth.

We progressed by making things easier. Gothic had a better impact on me than Witcher 3 did. Nowadays it's basically follow the arrow on the map and you'll finish the game. I used dictionaries to find out where to go, died countless times to the orc near khorinis to get that axe and become a blacksmith, found the orc by mistake while trying to hunt for some wolf skins and shat myself. Great memories. They are working on a remake, I think a demo is free on Steam but looks like crap.

Dude you are so right. Modern games are too streamlined and made for too wide an audience; Gothic and Gothic 2 were masterclasses in smart, deliberate design that doesn't hold the player's hand and lets them discover things on their own. Do yourself a favour and play them again. I can highly recommend Spine to get them running on modern systems, plus it lets you install visual and bugfix mods to make the game look less ancient. I did that recently and thoroughly enjoyed myself (plus I FINALLY finished NOTR!).

I must have been 5-6 years old when the "Level" magazine came out in my country with a small, shining pack of 3 CDs ( those were the things, back in the days) with something called " Gothic II" written on it. At that moment, my life, without any unnecessary dramatisation, truly changed forever. But to further add to your enthusiasm, a lot of Eastern Europeans know about Gothic. It was the market that received it the best. If you're still into it, take a look at "Dzieje Khorinis". You know your game aged well when Poles are still crazy about it, 18 years after the first release

He wasn't shooting at anything actually. If you aim destroy undead spell directly on the Dragon, it doesn't work (developers knew it would be too easy for players to win, so they made him invulnerable to it if you cast it directly on him). The point is that Undead Dragon is so massive monster that it hits him indirectly (although you must be close to him when the spell is being casted).
