Your channel has converted a total petrolhead, I collect my e:Ny1 Monday. The reviews and explanations of tech and cars etc and the plain quality of your videos is excellent. Thank you! :)
@TIHIR14 ай бұрын
Edit a little review :) OK I picked up my new e:Ny1 Advance yesterday. First impressions are really good, especially given as it has such poor reviews on KZbin etc. Build quality is usual Honda, very good and well though out but also has a few Honda quirks such as the rather pointless rear sunroof shades lol (who thought that was a good idea??? lol) Ergonomically and visually the interior is almost perfect and so much nicer than many Korean or Chinese and similar BEVs with their 'starship' designs (OK maybe I'm getting long in the tooth and old lol). It feels surprisingly roomy (especially in the back!). Well appointed does not cover half of the goodies that come standard in the Advance model and even the usually 'intrusive' driving aids are not too bad! Now that Honda have slashed £5k off the asking price of this car and allowing for the insane level of goodies fitted as standard, it starts to make quite good value and a far more sensible purchase than on its original release. One worry was the range, many testers stating very poor real world results... I have been getting around 3.8-4km per kilowatt, admittedly that's in Eco mode, only light use of the AC and fairly sedate driving, but not without some fun occasionally in sport mode trying out the power 🙂 This is pretty close to the stated 256 mile range. Of course no heat-pump, so winter will see this drop a good amount, but it has eased my fears about winter range considerably! Performance is really quite impressive given its a family small SUV although as some testers did report, 200BHP with a linear torque curve of an EV does overpower the front tires quite easily, but nothing scary and rather good fun! I'm struggling to understand the lack of love for this car, yes its no Type R, nor is it a high end luxury wagon, but for a solid all rounder, family SUV with a stylish if understated look and great features baked in as standard I am super happy with my purchase (and I tried a LOT of cars before I went for the 'Erny' lol) I hope this might be of use to anyone thinking about this car... Try one, you may be surprised :)

Welcome back podcast!!! You were saying you'd like to see larger EV's with smaller batteries - I'd like to see a small affordable EV with a huge battery! When you can't charge at home, or at work, a range of 400+ miles would reduce the number of times sitting at a pubic charger.
@timrothwell334 ай бұрын
It's interesting that part way through the video the team talk about the need for smaller battery cars and how that should be possible because of the improved EV charging infrastructure. Plus, they said, it's daft to have 80kWh battery packs you hardly ever use. And then when discussing the comparison between the Explorer and Mach-E they chose the Mach-E even though the Explorer has the smaller battery and is much more efficient.

One thing I'd like to request; as more controls are buried deep in the infotainment menus could you try the voice controls to see if they actually work whilst driving. Some things like changing the temperature, radio station, and making a telephone call. Some cars fail dismally, a friend of mine used to have problems calling her husband Dennis using voice commands, did start a call - 'calling dentist'...

I just got a used 2020 e-up! this june. Have been very impressed with how nice it is to drive and how far I seem to be able to make it go. Generally using the eco modes I get an estimated 250-300+ km range mixed driving. Now going out on highways changes things, but so far I have been easily able to get where I need to go and back with no hassle. I would say driving lots of highway stretches around 100km/h I probably get near 180-200km maybe. Will be taking my first longer trip this summer, about 600 km to a neighboring country, I will get a good feel for how long it goes on non-stop highways then. Personally can't wait for the Inster, if I am in a good position to do so, I could easily see myself upgrading from the e-up to that one as I feel the drivetrain, infotainment of the Hyundai/Kia line seem to be some of the best in the industry. On top of all that plus the super practical shape and interior, it has Vehicle to Load.

Ginny please don't paint mustard on your walls seriously start a poll about it on this channel...Tom totally agree with your points on the inster
@AlistairHughes4 ай бұрын
Tom seems to be forgetting all the people like myself who can't charge at home. We need to carry cable with us at all times so that we can charge at work, or while shopping, or eating out, or staying at a hotel, etc. We don't want to be rapid charging all the time. We want to slow charge to protect our batteries and occasionally save a bit of money. And none of the slow chargers (officially fast - but we really need to review the names) come with cables attached. Having a frunk (no problem with using that term, as a trunk is a form of storage), means you can keep your cable separate from your shopping, luggage, or whatever you're carrying in your boot. This is especially important in the UK, as you don't want to be sticking a wet, dirty cable into the same compartment as your shopping or luggage. I appreciate a frunk is extra cost to the manufacturers. Hinges, gas stays, and packaging will add cost and effort to their products. But, since 40% of the UK cannot charge at home, and that's not going to change any time soon (I've been speaking to my council for 3 years now, and while there are signs of progress for certain properties it still looks likely that around 1/3 of the UK will never be able to charge at home), then carrying cables will be necessary unless every charger becomes tethered. So, while your cables might still be in their wrappings, anybody who can't charge at home will use their cables on a regular basis. And we want a place to store them.

A couple of points. Tom should have referenced the Octopus Agile tariff. I have solar and battery as well as an EV but don’t have a compatible charger or car for the Intelligent tariffs. If you use the Octopus Compare app which I recommend it seems that I’m still better off with Agile than either the dumb Go or Flux tariffs. Secondly for Ginny if her tumble dryer, which will be much hungrier for electrons than her washing machine, doesn’t have a built in delay put a plug-in one into the wall socket, program it for midnight to 5am and plug the dryer into that! Lastly I agree with Tom that neither the latest Kona or the Inster are easy on the eye. The latter has a face like Farage😂

Reg service plans. The manufacturer backed ones are portable between dealers (within the franchise of course) whereas dealers' own plans are not valid at othe dealers, which causes problems if the dealer loses the brand or goes bust. Id say a manufacturer service plan is the best compromise between cost and peace of mind, especially when they are subsidised.

Great to see you back after a bit. A thing you touched on is that we do not really need huge batteries and tremendous range for most driving cases - and not just in cities. Your problem is you all do a lot of mileage so range matters to you and gives an unconscious editorial bias. My first car, a 1970s Mini, would go between 150 and 200 miles between fill ups, and usually I did not leave it till near empty. That worked perfectly well in the 1970s and I am not sure what has changed so much since. The 10 to 80% EV charge is probably not realistic. If I go back to Mini 1970s days something like a 40 to 80% charge time would be more like my lived experience. 40-80% in most cars you review will not take too much longer than an ICE fill up, loo stop, and a coffee. Why the anxiety?

Hi all, thanks for another great podcast. Looking for some expert advise. We are strongly considering upgrading our 15 year old second car (diesel) which is used for ferrying our 3 kids around,....school runs, kids training, trips to the shop etc....mostly within 15-20 km of home. We have driven the Ioniq, Leaf and E-golf. The e-golf being our favourite so far in terms of how it drives and practicality of the boot space...however the Leaf is very hard to ignore in terms of used prices here in Ireland. We are likely to keep the car for at least 5 years due to limited mileage so my question is which one would you buy ? Thanks Niall

Intelligent Octopus is 6 hours (11.30-5.30) at 7p per kwH
@synthmaker4 ай бұрын
Not quite, it's 6 guaranteed hours but I often charge during the day and get the same lower tariff I get during those 6 hours, not only for charging the car but also for any other electricity I use in my home. As I don't have a home charger and just plug to the 3 pin wall socket and charge at 2kW, almost all electricity I use is at the lower rate, a lot more than just the 6 guaranteed hours. That's why when they said Ovo was cheaper than Octopus it was not true as they use a different system that doesn't give you the cheaper rate during the day.

You missed the point of that question about dealers going bust. I'm pretty sure the question was about a garage no longer being an MG dealer. He has a long term, maybe three year service plan, so not talking about a warranty. He's paid for three services, possibly along with MOT's, in advance for a supposed discount but now has nowhere to redeem them.. He wants to know what his rights are. I only clocked it because my Huyndai dealer keeps trying to get me to sign up for their package when I get it MOT'd or it goes in for a recall. For all their clever video health check I make a point of never trusting dealers so I have Cleevely come and service mine at home.
