Christopher Hitchens, after visiting NK, said it forced him to do something he swore he'd never do: invoke 1984 in regards to a dictatorship. It was such a cliche. It always will be. But NK fullfills that cliche in almost everyway, Hitch couldn't use anything else, it was like they had founded the nation on the idea of "mmm this book 1984, maybe we can make this work".

I was born and raised in DDR (east germany) and i have like flashbacks when i see this :) In germany we have a saying "die Gedanken sind frei" (thoughts are free), but in such a country your thoughts are not yours. "Zombieland" is how i would describe it.

One thing that i've noticed is that North Korea gives me 2000s feels... Like even their tv channels? Everything seems like it's stuck in that era. Like why don't they update anything? There are 4 TV channels in North Korea: Korean Central Television (조선중앙텔레비죤): This is the main television channel in the country. It is also the only channel that is able to be viewed by the outside world. Mansudae Television (만수대텔레비죤): This channel broadcasts domestic and foreign movies. The foreign films are mainly from China and Russia. Ryongnamsan Television (령남산텔레비죤): This channel broadcasts educational content primarily directed towards university students. It also broadcasts documentaries and lectures in English, Russian, and Chinese. Sports Television (체육텔레비죤): This channel broadcasts sports competitions involving North Korean athletes, and documentaries about sports in the country and sports in the outside world. Something special about this channel is that it only broadcasts on the weekends, and at 8:00 PM, they show the news program that is seen on Korean Central Television. I hope this was helpful! 🙂

We are looking at Korean Central Television. This is the only North Korean TV channel that can be picked up by satellite.

This is the only channel available because NK state TV broadcast using a Russian satellite, and Russia isn't a closed off isolated country like NK. So Russia can broadcast NK state TV to the world.
