This match was the real final of the US Open. Everyone knew the winner here would crush Zvonareva in the final. And for some reason, Venus could never solve Clijsters at the USO. Lost to her in 05, 09 and 10. All went three sets, but she couldn't maintain her consistency.

I watched this match live and venus played so good winning the first set and up a break in the second..but venus started trying to end points way to quick..like in the first set she keep the stiking the ball kept it deep rallies she kept short and she came to the net did not let kim take control of those rallies...and kim was.clearly nervous..clearly and in the second set i truly thought venus was gonna pull away especially after the break..but kim got more aggressive and stop making alot of unforced errors and venus got tight and stop being aggressive and to manl unforced errors also the third set was great but a mess from both players"THAT'S WHY I LOVED THIS MATCH"...ohh i wished my girl QUEEN VENUS would won and i wish kim would have not been so nasty at the handshake because this was a classy and classic match for the history books at the usopen so... But at the end the better and i mean very very slitely better(thats how close this match was)...won.

Joris, Tiny Belgium produced 2 top-notch tennis players, very impressive. But why did they stop competing abruptly? Both Justin and Kim were at the peak of their tennis careers when they retired. Your countrywomen could have won at least 10 more GSs. That is if they played for another 5 years. Especially Justin, because of all the tournaments she participated in, she was a constant threat to win every one of them.

This lose might even have been more painful then the 2017 loss to Stephens. Venus was playing a much higher level here and still wasn’t able to close Kim out. As oppose to the Stephens loss where she wasn’t at her best.

Yeah. Level wise. But for me as a big Venus fan 2017 SF hurts more. I was gutted after the Wimbledon final. Really felt USO would be hers. Also knowing she won't be having such deep runs in the future, which turns out to be correct now :(((. In 2010 I felt she could win more in the future. So it was easy to accept. Btw, there is a tennis WhatsApp group (ATP/WTA combined) for tennis enthusiasts. If anyone's interested in joining, please drop me a msg on this number +918638525631.

It looks like Venus lost so much of her mental strength after 2003. She showed some mental toughness at the 2005 Wimbledon finals, but wasn't mentally tough a lot of times. Her 3 loses to Clijsters between 2005-2010, her 2007 us open loss to Henin and worst of all her 2008 loss to Serena were consequences of her inability to finish off her opponents. She had the advantage in most of these matches, but faltered in key moments. Maybe the auto immune disease played a role in loss of stamina. That disease can also cause mental issues. She definitely should have won more us open titles, especially in 2008.

This was really on Kim's hands. Venus was not that explosive in her steps anymore at this stage in her career or maybe lack of fitness but it was a wonder she was able to make do with her talent reaching the semis even. We can see how Venus was not balanced hitting the ball compared to Kim who was very stable while hitting her shots though she could get overeager that her shots fly away and on many occasions letting her nerves betray her.
