They are as different as heaven and earth now. They might as well as just coexist peacefully and luve in mutual respect. They should just sign a peace treaty to formally end the Korean War. In fact, there is no country called "Korea". DPRK calls itself ”Joseon" (조선), and Pyongyang used to regard South Korea as “South Joseon” (남조선). ROK calls itself "Hanguk" (한국), and Seoul regards North Korea as ”North Han“ (북한). People from countries outside the Sinosphere may have difficulty understanding these from English translations. Kim's doing this is equivalent to declaring unilateral independence. Maybe he will change the country's English name later, and then claim that Joseon and Hanguk are two ethnic groups that are not affiliated with each other.

And guess what, the country that invaded and destroyed North Korea, it's the same leading to the escalation done by the South counterpart. In case of war, the US will lead the South Korean army. why are these people so angry?
@koshka0210 ай бұрын
If you've ever read the book 1984 by Orwell, you'll get some idea. In order for them to hold onto power, they need the people to believe in a constant 'enemy', and be in a constant state of emergency. This is how Big Brother was able to control people in Oceania. Also, North Korea is a heavily sanctioned country. So even though the government of North Korea are the bad actors here, they'll weaponize sanctions against them and turn it into anti-American political propaganda. But even without sanctions, they'd still lie and do propaganda to hold onto power. North Koreans are probably the most misinformed people in the world (which is worse than being uninformed).

The reality is that integrating the DPRK into a unified country with the ROK will be incredibly costly, challenging and dangerous. Do South Koreans want to be subsidising development of the North with their taxes, have their neighbourhoods flooded by northerners seeking better opportunities or have to live with the threat of terrorism from elements of the KPA who have no intentions of stopping their fight? I would think not. Same goes for the Republic of Ireland reintegrating Northern Ireland, albeit in a far less extreme scale.

Korean here. I personally disagree with your statement. The Lee family (Rulers of Joseon and Daehan), doomed us since 1866. When there were multiple attempts at modernisation, they pushed back, dooming the nation. The only exception is Gojong, but he was too late, and his nation was absorbed into Japan. I would say that had Korea been perserved in 1910, the royal family would be universally hated by the public.
