I understand the reason the ejection port is only cut out on the right side is to keep the empty brass from hitting a red dot mounted on the slide. Great video sir, keep them coming.

It's actually on the side to allow for more metal and rigidity since removing all that metal per Kimber for an RDO creates a weak point in the frame, although have a G19 w/ a milled out slide with a Teijicon RMR mounted never had an ejected round hit my face or the optic and my slides solid as a rock 🪨
@GSquaredTactical
@GSquaredTactical Жыл бұрын
It is for that as well. That’s what I said in the video and Max McCain corrected me and said it was to keep casings of red dot. I don’t argue with people. Kimber’s wrote up on the pistol says that they done it to keep the integrity of the slide in tact, but like Max McCain said it also does a wonderful job at keeping brass off the glass. So now matter I believe both are true

Actually, it is to accommodate the locking lug at the rear of the chamber as opposed to one in front of the chamber like a Browning action. This can be seen in the BB Techs BB6, and the Taurus TS9 for example. This reduces barrel tilt and improves reliability.

This R7 is way underrated in my opinion! from all the reading and reviews I have researched. I purchased my Mako about 4 months ago on sale for 399.99 and have approximately 800 rds. run through it without any failures of any kind. I have most all of the micro compact 9's and will have to say this one is one of my favorites to shoot out of them all. I Like my Sig 365x for every day carry and my Glocks for home protection. Hard to beat the purchase and feel of the frame along with an awesome trigger, I thought my S&W shield plus had a good trigger. round capacity, the ergonomics, night sights and the sweet looking finish coating on this gun is unbelievable. If you are thinking about getting it better grab one. Thanks for the Great video!

Thanks for watching and for giving us your experience! Kimber was a questionable review for us as all the ones in the past had that notorious break in period that we (at this moment) don’t want to endure. But given it’s a polymer it changed our initial choice. Likewise we are having a great experience with this micro compact 9! Love mine 👍 Only thing I noticed was it does get dirty on the feed ramp much quicker than any of my other guns. I did run probably 100 rounds of steel through it out of 300 on a range day. The ramp is a little steeper and smaller than my other guns and just seems to need a little more attention. The trigger has really cleaned up and the thing is accurate as hell and handles pretty well over all. I carry it probably 90% of the time and feel more than adequately armed with it. Another great video guys, keep ‘em coming 👍👍👍

Thats an interesting observation, we will pay attention next time we are at the range. It may have something to do with the ejection port cut. It may not be allowing as much residue release as you might would find on a top and side cut slide that you normally see on pistols. Maybe it’s holding extra in? We loved this pistol and glad to hear your trigger is cleaning up! Thanks for watching Al, we appreciate you! Check us out on rumble

It gets dirtier because it's a closed design, you'll notice there's no gap between the frame and slide, you can't see any light. So all that gun powder residue is contained inside the firearm.

I picked up the R7 package deal in flat dark earth. Ran 100 rounds through it no problems. The trigger is very good, flat face metal trigger, tritium night sights. The only complaint I have is the takedown levers are small, hard to grip them for my fingers. But it's my primary carry. Good review 👍🏻🇺🇸

Absolutely I also hate LCI on optic ready pistols. I think it was an accidental added benefit because Kimber’s website says that it was to aid in accuracy and for the structural integrity of the slide. Thanks for watching and commenting and please be sure to subscribe if you haven’t already

I bought one with the Crimson Trace installed. The trigger was insanely light and very crisp - but it "double-tapped" four times in the first 100 rounds, and three feeding issues with my usual range loads. I was really debating the safety and reliability of the piece. Two weeks later I got the safety recall notice from Kimber. A month after sending it back to them, I got the repaired weapon. The trigger was slightly heavier, but still nice and crisp, but still had the feeding/ejection issues with "ordinary mortal" ammo. It was as accurate as my 365 XL, but my wife could only shoot three mags' worth of rounds before the aggressive grip texture made her palm raw. That, coupled with her difficulty in takedown/cleaning (she's no shrinking violet - ex-cop and a strapping, strong farm girl) impelled me to trade it in on another XL, which has been - pun intended - bulletproof.
@GSquaredTactical
@GSquaredTactical Жыл бұрын
That is definitely a first I heard with the grip on this particular gun. But everyone is different and that’s why they make so many different makes and models of firearms! That’s crazy too that after the recall you still had feed/ejection issues. I don’t believe ours was included in that recall, we never had any failures of any sort and we put a variety of ammo through. Sorry about your experience but I’m glad you 365 is holding steady! Hi guys, great video! I’ve got about a thousand through mine and never a hiccup. I agree with you completely about racking the slide, the grip, loading the magazines, I had a red dot on it and it was awesome! More chunky, a bit longer and more weight to carry appendix for me than the Hellcat. Odd the Hellcat bottom of the grip has a pointed part at the back of the mag well that digs my belly and I need a t-shirt between. The rear sight on the Mako is also sharp. I haven’t heard any videos about either pistol, or any pistol mention trigger action with a partial slide pull. I accidentally realized in dry fire that you barely have to unlatch the slide on the Hellcat and then you can cycle the trigger. But this is also true for my MP 2.0, but on the Mako you have to pull the slide all the way to the rear to cycle the trigger. Does this mean the trigger does some of the work of cocking the firing spring on the Hellcat, but is fully staged and ready on the Mako? Maybe the reason for such a crisp trigger? By the way, you guys sure can shoot!

I never had a problem with any of mine. I call the R7 Mako The “hot Rod” because it’s like someone said “ let’s take a Glock 26 and make it better in every way” and that’s how I see it. And I’m actually a Glock 26 fan! Trigger, grip shape, texture, red dot, accessory rail, A shorter handle than 12 rounds in a 26, but it’s got 13 rounds, and did I mention the trigger😂. It’s actually extremely close in pointing angle and grip shape and how it fits your hand as a 26 but it actually has a textured area to put your support hand thumb on as well and accuracy is very comparable in my opinion.

I don't believe in the break-in myth. A traditional style 1911, meaning internal extractor, is sensitive to the tension on the extractor. Tune the extractor and it should function fine from day one. A person can tune the extractor themselves, there are videos on youtube for how to do this. Why they might not carefully tune the extractor from the factory is a different question.

Why does anyone need to put 5 or 6 hundred rounds through any gun? Is it going to fail if I only shoot 499? Every gun I assume is manufactured to do one thing,shoot when one pulls the trigger. Why do I need to shoot some prescribed number before it acts like a gun. I'm glad I don't need to use the same pretzel logic with automobiles, ie drive my new car 5000 miles before it runs as it was designed to.As a person with a 30 + year career in mechanical engineering, this seems crazy to me.

Dude, I 1000% agree with you and I get so aggravated when we have problems with a gun and I have to sit here and read comment after comment after comment of people saying well. The owners manual says it has a break-in period of 300 rounds. Can you not read? Are you stupid? Does nobody read the owners manual. I mean dude for me if it does not function as you said like a gun straight out of the box I have no use for it and that’s the reason why even though I know Kimber are well built 1911s I refuse to buy another one
