I love the Browning Buckmarks. They arguably do have the best factory trigger of any rimfire pistol out there. But I got sold on the Ruger Mk IV .22/45 due to the ambidextrous safety. Someone actually started thinking about us left-handers. There is no way for left-handers to efficiently draw, release the safety without performing dexterity acrobatics before shooting which creates safety issues of their own. For this reason over the years, I've mostly used revolvers out of necessity.

WHY O GREAT 1. RUGAR 22 45 IS HANDS DOWN #1 by sales and its not remotely close. 2 nd many government used the rugar, that a FACT as well. Browning is one of my 4 favorite brands. Iron sight stock on my colt 6" orange fiber op. 100 % aircraft STEEL. AT 50 YARDS A PAPER PLATE ALL DAY AND NIGHT. THEN WHERE IS MY 22 DIAMONDBACKS 6. BOTH BOUGHT IN 1 DAY IN 1990. O REMINTON 1100. I recently had the opportunity to target shoot a bone stock 22/45 side by side a bone stock Buck Mark 7-1/4" barreled Contour. In my hand, the Buck Mark was the superior shooter. It was all about right hand comfort and grip. The Browning just felt perfect and the Ruger didn't. Both were set up for competitive target shooting by a gun pro. My groupings were crazy tight with the Buck Mark. For anyone considering, it really helps to be able to compare side x side like that.

I own two Buckmarks and love them. I also have a High Standard Supermatic Citation, but it's in a different class. The Buckmarks are my "go to" pistols to teach new shooters.

I own a Supermatic Citation also and just bought a buckmark. I have not shot the buckmark yet but have dryfired it (with snap caps) and can tell the buckmark trigger is heavier but still not bad. But yes, comparing the two would be like comparing a Toyota Camry with a supercar. The Camry is your daily driver and your High Standard is your hand fitted, performance gun and also collector gun. I also own a couple Match Target Woodsmans, a Smith K22, and a few winchester .22 rifles. They are all so well built. I bought the buckmark on a whim and it does not have the same fit and finish but does feel like a good quality gun with some modern features so it should be more of a "fun" gun that I won't cry if it gets scratched.

I have both pistols and overall I liked the Ruger Mark III a little better, although it took me longer to learn proper technique of disassembly for the mark III. It's really a simple procedure once you get the hang of it. I got better groups with the MKIII also. Both OEM and aftermarket parts for the Ruger are extremely accessible and I found them to be a bit cheaper. I have a bunch of 10 round magazines, mostly the Italian made OEM and after cleaning them and sanding/polishing them, they work flawless. I found a good deal on some promag magazines and after I did a little sanding/polishing on them they work just as good as the OEM! Another thing I like are the aftermarket kits you can get for the Ruger that can make that good gun into an incredible shooter. Once I put a trigger kit in my MKIII I will come back and let y'all know if it's truly worth it like I have read and heard so many fellas say it is. So again, it's a matter of personal preferance because they are both excellent pistols! For me I like the Ruger a little better. I enjoyed the video very much, Thank You for taking the time to make it. You have a really nice pistol there!

All good info but the better comparison would be a Camper to a Mark3. A lot of the negatives mentioned for the 22/45 are by design because they mimic the 1911. The controls on the Mark pistols mirror the Camper. I have both a Camper and a 22/45 mark2 and I always have to familiarize myself with the Browning by feel, whereas the 22/45 feels just like my 1911 (which is one of the most ergonomic designs of all time).

I looked for a deal on a new or used Buckmark for 2-3 yrs and never found one for a decent price. Bought a new Mark 4 22/45 bullbarrel Target model for $340 and I love it. Put a Hogue rubber finger grip on it and Much better. I have stock sights and easily hit the 3”x3” target from 75 feet. Also, eats all .22LR ammo and no failures so far.

Used to have a Ruger bullnose for shooting competion. Took the unit to a gunsmith to have an Aimpoint installed. The guy pointed to a jar on the shelf full of triggers. He told me that it was full of old Ruger triggers. He said enentully yours will be in there also. I had him do a trigger job on it. Made a positive difference. 2 to 3 lb pull. Have a Buckmark and an High Standard Military. Both fun to shoot and accurate.

Good review. I like how you're forthright about which gun you like better and the reasons for it. I had a Buckmark UFX but sold it and kept the MK II (have 3 actually). Never shot the 22/45. I was more accurate with the Buckmark but the MK II was more comfortable in the hand, because the safety and slide release dug into my shooting grip. But to each his own.

I am a mark2 fan and sold mine 14 years ago. Then bought a mark 3 about 8 years ago. It was not the same gun as the mark 2! I re moved the magazine safety and the loaded chamber indicator because I hated them both. I bought a Buckmark about 5 years ago and even though it has a magazine safety it is much easier to undo than the Ruger. Now I see the problems people are having with the new Ruger MkV how the frames get loose and the way Ruger keeps tweekin them. Ruger should have stayed with the old mk2 it was the best design. But after experiencing the Buckmark and the fact that they never changed anything about it. I like my Buckmark better! The trigger especially!

22-45 trigger can be improved. What stock trigger couldn't be for the most part, but the take down is light years ahead on the 22-45. With a slight trigger adjustment the Ruger is tops.

I recently bought the UDX version of the Browning Buck Mark. I like it a lot. My BuckMark arrived yesterday, and frankly, I couldn't be more disappointed. The slide is stuck and that safety seems to be frozen in the off position. There was no spent shell enclosed which means they may not have tested it. Can't get a hold of Customer Service because it's the weekend. I own a Ruger 22/45 Mark III which has never given me a problem. Also was able to recently pick up Ruger 22/45 Mark III magazines at CDNN for $12.95. The BuckMark magazines look to be significantly more expensive.This post is not meant to be a rebuttal of this video. Just be forewarned. There are a lot of people out there complaining about the safety. These guns are not perfect.

ill still buy ruger mk4, one button takedown is reason enough for me and we all know that 22lr pistols and 22/45 are super dirty after shooting some rounds and need constant cleaning, besides ruger mk4 is like a pistol version of AR15 when u taking down the upper receiver, so cool right? all it's need is a butstock with buffer, longer barrel, some recoil grip and scope. and u have ur own 22 capacity rifle.

I've had a buckmark for about 20 years now. I bought a Ruger mk iv 22/45 lite a couple years ago for significantly more money. It has the worst trigger I've ever felt in a 22 pistol. No fiber optic front sight either so I had to buy one. I bought the volquerston trigger upgrade kit which helped but it's still not as good as a stock buckmark trigger. The mk iv is harder to rack the slide and the magazines are harder to load (but should get easier over time). I really like how easy it is to clean though. Definitely recommend a buckmark over a mk iv if anyone is considering getting one....

The browning buckmark is a nice pistol, however, as a lefty, the safety is too small, and not ambidextrous, so it’s difficult for me to use. The 22/45 is MUCH better for left handed shooters.

My brother and I own 2 Buck Marks.. His is the 2012 Stainless model! Right out of the box both had the most wonderful triggers ever.. Broke clean with great feel for last little bit of pressure needed to touch the shot off.. I put a set trigger from Midway on mine and did the Heggis flip on the trigger spring( turn it upside down) That dropped the trigger weight about half.. Accuracy?? It will out shoot your skills any day of the week. Feels great in the hand and points naturally.. Sorry.. for you tinkerers, not many aftermarket accessories available.. Why.. THEY DON['T NEED ANY...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! unlike the Ruger that you have to spend big bucks to make them shoot right. Dave from South Georgia..

Browning Buckmark's always were the pistols waiting in the background. Until you shoot one, you'll wonder where it's been all your life. It's always had the 45-style grip & never said anything about it. They just made them. They are the better 22 pistol a lot more accurate & dependable. Ruger still has issues with the 22-45 feeding rds.

I wish I saw this before I purchased my S&W Victory. I have a 22/45 Mark II and I have no problems with how it shoots or feels in my hand (with no mods, except a HIVIZ front sight). But the Victory just doesn't feel or shoot as good, not to mention how I keep hitting the safety with my grip. I truly only purchased it because I like the idea of the top picatinny rail and the several mods available. I went into it thinking I would mod it out , but if I can't find a way to stop hitting the safety every 30 rounds or so it will have to go. Now I will take a look at the Buckmark as well as the new 22/45 mk IV.

I had a chance to fire a Ruger 22/45 lite Followed by a browning, buck mark The only thing the Ruger had above the bookmark is the fact you can take the upper receiver and barrel off a lot easier Anyways, it’s comparing apples and oranges because the light does not have the heavier barrel and assembly so you really really have to do your work and follow through breathe and squeeze in order to get a reasonable group I think the mk iv With the aluminum frame is a much better option than the 45/22 Frame The 45/22 Frame is a polymer frame that’s molded overtime. It’s gonna crack and it’s going to weaken and it really doesn’t give you that much in the way of stability. The hold onto it is a manufacturing convenience for ruger The browning buck Mark I did have issues with the lever working reliably that might be the fact that it’s a rental gun that needs to be cleaned

Flash suppressor not compensator (edit: even though marketing calls it compensator, does nothing, mostly for looks only). I found buckmarks have heavy trigger. @@12799MaDeuce Yea I know what it is "called". I was not clear. It is marketing. It does NOT compensate at all with ports 360. I have shot with one on and off. No difference. The MAIN reason is per the marketing..." with 360 degree ports ..... adds a little pizazz to your existing platform." If you have threaded barrel and don't have a suppressor this is sparkle for your gun. It is NOT practical, for show. It does more to suppress flash, which is nil like recoil and flip is with 22LR. It is a do-dad. It is NOT needed. It is for looks.

I'm in love with the Buckmark series, I got my Field Target back in 2009 for $750 and don't think I'll ever buy a different brand or model of .22LR, it is just hands down the best shooting pistol I own (at least until my CZ Shadow 2 comes in). Super light clean breaking trigger, accurate as they come, reliable, good looking, the whole package. I did have a guy almost shoot a hole in his foot with mine, I offered to let him shoot it at a gravel pit range and told him before he even had it in his hands that it has a super light trigger (2-3 pounds), first thing he does is scoff at me and fingerfucks the trigger guard and pops a round off between his feet, he listened to me after that lol. Can't go wrong with a Buck Mark. It is great out of the box but there are plenty of upgrade options also. The Buckmark is a nice gun. No argument. The Ruger MKIV fixed almost all the negatives you mention (I can't say for sure the trigger is better than the Buckmark) The takedown procedure for the MKIV is now far superior to the Buckmark, admittedly, it was not on the previous models. The controls are all much better and for magazine loading ANY .22, get one of those little plastic "thumb savers" that slips over the magazine to easily depress the follower. The Buckmark has a lot going for it. My wife is currently looking for a new .22 pistol to replace her old S&W 422 (1987 vintage). Mostly because she is looking to mount optics and that is not really an option on the 422. She is torn between the Buckmark and the Ruger MKIV. Lots of models and options. So she is still contemplating. FWIW, price is not a big consideration for her, BUT the Buckmark in many of it's versions seems to be a little less expensive. Again, not by a big margin and maybe it is only because the demand for the MKIVs right now seems to be very high. They both have a confusing variety of models to choose from, so there will be something for everyone.

I didn't even shop around because I have been looking for this lightweight version of the gun I already know and like.. since making the decision I have been looking at other 22 autos.. the smith n wesson stuff looks nice, browning has always made a great little 22.. so perhaps a second purchase is in order.

The slide on the Buckmark makes me leery. It looks a lot like the slide on my Beretta Neos. I have to be careful about that one because if I barely get a thumb on the edge of it she aint gonna cycle. I have the same 22/45 Mark III and did the grip mod and put a Hogue wrap around finger grip on it. Like it much better. My Mark III Hunter is my favorite by far tho. That stainless frame and fluted barrel is a thing of beauty. Yeah, the trigger has pretty excessive take up, but broke at 3 pounds out of the box. After some polishing it breaks at 2 1/2 pounds and is far more accurate than me lol

So you are comparing a Browning with extensive modifications to a stock Ruger? Lightening the sear spring can result in accidental discharge if the gun is dropped.

Nope, they're not the same stock. Ruger has greatly improved the takedown of the Mark 3 but, I still prefer the Browning Buck Mark overall.

40% of the population is left-handed. That Buck Mark thumb rest prevents left-handers from getting a good grip on the gun. Ruger has ambidextrous thumb safety and the grip is just fine without the thumb rest. I'll take the Ruger! They don't ignore left-handers!
@gavinfordmassage3010
@gavinfordmassage3010 4 жыл бұрын
Leslie Martin actually, left handers make up only 10% of the population , and then true ambidextrous make up 5%. Even if you add these together, it’s not close to 40%. Don’t trust my figures, just google it, it’s ready available and accurate information from multiple credible sources. BTW, I’m left handed too, I just learnt to shoot right handed,.

@@gavinfordmassage3010 I also heard along timer ago from credible sources the 40% figure. Still, whatever the number, shouldn't left-handers be given an opportunity to buy? Even 10% ??

I bought this gun today.Problems from the get go. Failed to extract, failed to fire, and a bent ejector . Browning offered nothing but excuses. I tried all their recommended fixes to no avail. They don't even want you to field strip it for cleaning. Btw i am not a newbie shooter. After three times on the phone with Browning i said the hell with it. My dealer gave me a full refund. i'm not saying the Ruger is better but the Buckmark you buy today is not of the quality it should be.

Already made that mistake a Ruger Mark 3 Hunter in Stainless full bull barel. Beautiful gun. But a cleaning nightmare. I am getting this and selling the Ruger since the nicer Mark 4 is illegal in slave state Caloco. Note the Ruger Mark 3 Hunter has the same grip in cobola wood with ramp.

You are absolutely right about the Ruger Trigger. Ruger is known far and wide as having the worst trigger on the market. I purchased a 22/45 about 18 months ago and as a result, I will never buy another Ruger product. By the time you buy a decent trigger for any Ruger you might buy, you will end-up spending more than you would have spent if you had bought a competitors product to begin with.

Bob Collinsworth : buy a Volquartsen sear for your Ruger. Costs about $20 dollars, takes about 15 minutes to instal and gives a clean break at about 2.5 lbs trigger pull.
