Kimura is very versatile. Knowing when to extend your arms and when to keep them in a tight figure-four… to when to bail and let go is super important to be effective. So in half-guard, if you're attacking from bottom, it's important you get the opponents wrist behind his back -- if not, then you must bail on the kimura… OR bail on the half-guard and give the opponent side control… all while you extend your arms, lock/pin opponents wrist to his hip bone, and use it as a fulcrum to spin just about 360 under him into an arm bar or get on your knees sweep. Hell, did I just try and type this out? Gibberish. Just to say… Kimura from anywhere can work.

Hi, I found your site because of Professor Henry Akins. Really interesting counter where you end up on top of half guard with your own kimura. I’m interested-you said in your gym, your guys don’t go for the kimura from bottom half guard-what do your guys do from there? Block the cross face and swim to play the under-hook game? I know that’s a pretty broad question, but really cool channel. I’m definitely subscribed. Thanks

The techniques in this video are legit, but there are counters to these counters as well. If you're the bottom player and you can't get the wrist behind your opponent's back, you don't have to bail, you just have to make sure you keep his wrist LOW trapped in between his legs. It's hard for the top player to stop this because you have the 2 on 1. Once you have his hand trapped low you can do the classic butterfly hook sweep or switch to the one arm kimura sweep sequence. At that point, neither of the counters in this video are viable. The first few seconds after getting the kimura are critical for both players...
