I've used this technique.. worked great.. took a bit longer than expected but it was worth the effort

Problem is, in a street fight he can punch you when you apply the gi choke. Look at Sambo - they wear gi jackets too but there's punches allowed.... and therefore, you don't see gi chokes used in sambo competitions because of the ground and pound. Surely it would be easy to simply apply no-gi techniques - control the head and look for a sweep or submission? If not - downward elbow strikes to the head! I love jiu-jitsu and the sub game but let's face it, the art is best used for gaining posisition and then use ground and pound which 90% of the time is more efficient (faster to finish).
