👋🏻Stripey! What a fantastic and adventure filled video; I loved every element in it. It’s like the Scottish landscape threw everything at you, and then some! It all looked grueling and more challenging than usual, yet you managed to keep your great smile and positivity through it all, even after falling and trekking through all that thick mud, yikes! It was like the movie “Scream” inside that bothy; geez 😳Cozy, but scary! I’m not sure I understand the “stalking” situation; what does that mean?? Absolutely awesome video and great filming; it looks like you enjoyed the challenge fully. Glad you seem to have recovered well and are in great form again. Loving the new cooking utensils too. Another awesome video; thank you!🙏🏻 👍🏻☝🏻👋🏻
@StripeyHatGuy Жыл бұрын
Hi Rose 👋, Yeah it was rather a demanding hike. I am not sure with the whole stalking seasons either tbh. My understanding is that it is required to control the amount of deer as they have no more natural predators in the UK + it is a business (hunting). I am not sure if the ploughed field feeling was actually from the stalkers or not, but if I can only imagine how many people/deer were hunted and brought down the hill that it looks like that. Yeah really enjoying the trangia setup, is like a full sized kitchen for the backpack - not necessarily right for every trip but in bothies or shorter trips I really enjoy the comfort of it - my favourite is the kettle, just like the look of it, kind of 'cute'. Thanks a lot as always for watching and commenting Rose! ATB Stripey

I had ravioli for dinner this evening, but your version looked delicious, you could also deep fry them ,I liked the vegetable stock version & funny enough the Nepalese eat something very similar, it's filled dumplings very warming, a hearty meal. Those mice, I had to laugh but seeing the dreadful Scottish weather you can't blame them for taking up residency at the bothy with kind souls like you lightning fires & possibly spilling crumbs lol! I would be hopeless in the Highlands I'd need at least 2 or 3 days at the bothy to recover, if I win the lottery I'll make the trip by helicopter.

Oh I didn’t know that you can deep fry them - have you eaten the before deep fried in Germany or is this from the crazy neighbours 😂. Yeah I have the feeling most countries have a similar version of something what others have in particular Italy and Spain (Spaetzle, Pasta, Maultauschen, Ravioli, Cannelloni, Pizza, Dinnele, etc.) Very true with the mice, really liked your answer! Remember going to Kinbreack bothy on my own 30+ years ago. still chains dangling off the ceiling in ground the ground floor. Really creepy vibe to the place, violent thunderstorm in the night added to the atmosphere. No locked gate or 4x4 track back then, bit of an eyesore that.

Can only imagine how that sounded! I mean I was already sitting vertical in my quilt with some strongish winds, so t know what would happen during a thunderstorm 😅. "It's not as difficult as...Umph@*&%$" Famous last words. Glen Kingie is a vast Glen. desolate and beautiful. The missus and I were in there a couple of years ago in a camper van, and we stopped at Arkaig for a couple of nights. Walked over into Glen Kingie and ascended Sgur Mor. Didn't stay at the Bothy, though, just walked past it on our way.

Aye the Glen down by the bothy is absolutely stunning, definitely on my list for going back for some proper exploration time. Can I ask you if you experienced the way as horrible as I did? @@StripeyHatGuy Aye. The camper was brilliant. We was on a 12 day tour of the West Coast, drove up from Southern England. We started the route same as you, came up over the Bealach but we kept to the left of the stream, we didn't cross it to the Bothy. The stream, though, flows down to the River Kingie, which we followed, and then found a place to ford the river to access the route up Sgur Mor. When we descended back down Sgur Mor into the Glen we hiked back over the bealach on the other side of Froach Bheinn. It was one of the hardest going Glens I've had to hike into, through and out of; nothing but peat bogs and endless tall grass. With all the streams rilling down the mountains feeding the River it was hard wet going, we also didn't have the hard rain that you was dealt with. We had a rainless day in September. Saying all that though, it was one of the best Glens I've been to, for the sheer desolation of it, it was beautiful. And the view at the summit of Sgur Mor is special. Cheers.

awesome video as always .. I'd love to hear your opinion on one another thing ... I am used on to wear B/C boots (actually trusted `Made in Germany' Hanwag Alaska - and I have third pair and I am using them 12+ years, thousands kilometers with them) .. I know they are bit heavy and ofc I wear them in only "harsher" terrain and conditions, normally I wear trailrunners (merrel long sky 2 actually), using shoes in these conditions looks to me almost dangerous and irresponsible .. do you ever use a hiking boots (B/C category) ? thanks in advance for an answer .. ps. I love where this chan goes :) ... I was always mad to outdoor culinary and was feeling weird and inappropriate ... people were giggling that I was willing to carry additional weight to just live and eat good ... now I see it's not only me :) ... so cool
@StripeyHatGuy Жыл бұрын
man just replied to the old post 😂. I had the Hanwag Tibet for quite some time until I lost a sole (still have them in the cellar) and I got some Scarpa Rebel GTX (not produced any longer, now they are called Ribelle HD). Not sure if in these conditions trail runners or lighter shoes are more dangerous tbh. I just wore my boots as I wanted to keep my shoes dry, heavy backpack with the fire fuel + I have a traction of a tractor in mud (ok it wasn’t enough I guess 😂).
@sigsegv111 Жыл бұрын
@@StripeyHatGuy fair enough .... I am asking because I am used on hill walking/mountaineering in Tauern alps mostly (or for my photography Norway, Sweden, Scotland, etc) and from my beginnings I am just wearing boots .. approx 15-30km hikes with climbing 1.5-2k alt. meters in one day .. I agree that they are bit heavy and if there is no wet in the path they are perhaps bit overkill, but for these super-boggy conditions in Scotland I cannot imagine to go with just (low) shoes ... I was in Scotland last year with company, I was the only one with boots and I dare to say that I was also the only one who was dry (mostly) and comfortable by one grade at least compared to others .. Cunningly I had also my altra superiors with me (+550g in backpack) but I was using them mostly as a camp shoes in the end ... but again, I felt weird in inappropriate with my B/C Alaskas on feet but they worked like charm ... I just wonder why - because I consider the trailrunners-everywhere as a bit hype in last years (however your La Sportiva shoes are somewhere in the middle)
@StripeyHatGuy Жыл бұрын
@@sigsegv111 yeah is difficult in Scotland. I mean I switch every so often between my La Sportiva or my Altra Mont Blanc. I make it most of the time depending on how many river crossings I need to do as I am a kind of lazy in taking the shoes off - said this most of the time I do just overnighters and no multi day trips. I would just stick with the shoes which work for you best - I mean it sounds ideal when you have the stamina and space in your rucksack to carry just another pair for the case 💪👍
