Lars Mikkelsen was already perfect in Rebels, but FINALLY seeing him play Thrawn in live action proves was was born to play Grand Admiral Thrawn! And his “Night Troopers” are beyond awesome. They’re the most intimidating looking army I’ve ever seen in Star Wars. Especially Enoch, he looks like a mix of a Spartan and a gladiator. And Baylan Skoll is proving to be one of the most complex and compelling characters in all of Star Wars. He managed to see not only that the Jedi had fallen even before Order 66 because of how they had become so blinded by their own hubris and hypocrisy, but he sees that the Galaxy can never be governed for long or even properly by either a Republic nor an Empire. So he is looking for a new power that will outlast all of them. It just makes it more tragic that Ray Stevenson didn’t live to see the overwhelming praise he would’ve received. What really surprised me was the Nightsisters being the lynchpin that ties everything together. Now it makes sense how an incredibly ancient map could lead to where Thrawn was currently, because Morgan was told so in her visions by the Great Mothers, who were instructed by Thrawn. And in exchange for aiding Thrawn, he would take them and whatever their cargo is (and I have a bad feeling I might know what it is) back to our Galaxy. DAVE FILONI YOU MAD GENIUS, YOU NEVER FAIL TO ENTERTAIN US!

I’m with you Tim, not only is Sabine not using the force in the traditional way we think of I predict she will never use it like that. What I dig about Sabines Mandalorian Jedi destiny is that she conceivably will be a new class of Jedi in the tradition of the first Mandalorian Jedi Tarre Viszla. As much as people think the Jedi are the end all be all warriors of the galaxy most audiences don’t know that the Mandalorians kept the Jedi on their toes for a long time. The idea that Sabine becomes a badass Mandalorian Jedi that cant tap into force powers but is just as formidable in the way of the Mandalore is going to be amazing when she crosses paths with Din, Grogu and Bo-Katan.

For me, it's joint favourite with Andor. I can't really pick between the two, because they're each the perfect example of their aspect of Star Wars. Andor, the political, dirty human side, no Jedi no force, just people clawing and fighting to exist in this huge indifferent galaxy. And them Ashoka for the more classic space wizard adventures, with a more hopeful tone, and larger the life events.

I haven’t been able to fully invest in some of these live action versions actually feeling like their animated counterparts. So far only Ahsoka post Anakin vision and strangely enough Ezra last night felt like the animated characters? All I see is Mary Winstead in Hera cosplay and Sabine feeling emotionally inert?

Thrawn is intimidating because he is always in control. Not because of his physical appearance, albeit I sill thought he looked bad ass. I've been waiting since the 90s to see him live-action. Obviously we'll never get the original version of Thrawn, but the new Disney/Filoni one has lived up to his mystique of his original source so far. I can't fucking wait to see where it goes... hopefully not in the First Order's direction. I know that probably will somehow have to go that route eventually, but I just want more of the greatest Star Wars character ever. Long Live Grand Admiral Thrawn.

32:49 This is classic Thrawn. He studies his opponents’ history, culture, and art and then he knows their mind and thinking and can then out strategize any of their plans! (A La Akbar in the original Timothy Zahn books, and Hera in Rebels). Ezra had to go really off book to defeat him with the space whales! Something so crazy Thrawn couldn’t predict it. (In the Zahn books it was his most loyal bodyguard betraying him after the Noghri people were freed from imperial domination by Leia Organa Solo!) But, “At least … it was artfully done!”

So I am genuinely curious if anyone reading this is watching Ahsoka without having seen Rebels? Are you able to keep up and enjoy things because Ive been disagreeing with fans that say you MUST know everything about Rebels to watch. Anecdotally people in my life that are watching and have no idea what Rebels is are liking Ahsoka just fine. I think as diehard fans that consume everything about these franchises we over inflate the importance of knowing everything backwards and forwards. I know on more than one occasion people were turned off on watching Ahsoka because everyone, meaning no harm, told them they HAD to watch Rebels to understand it and after convincing them otherwise it would seem that similarly to the MCU outside of very specific key moments in certain films/tv shows you can still rely on the story you are currently watching to give you the context and information needed to follow along?

Loved the episode. Just hope they do the work of giving Thrawn motivation beyond “I want to rule the galaxy now.” Dave’s Thrawn has always felt just a touch too overtly evil compared to his book counterpart, and coming in with basically a white walker army isn’t helping in that regard. (I also think zombie army is totally lame compared to OG Thrawn, but I’ll let them cook and see)

@fixation9281 Жыл бұрын
Because he’s extremely intelligent. He considers his enemies’ culture, history and artwork when planning his next move, and is pretty much unbeatable in a traditional battle. Ezra only beat him by using the Purrgil to send him to another galaxy He overcame racist prejudice and rose to the rank of Grand Admiral in the Empire, and he’s also an important member of the Chiss Ascendancy, which is a very advanced empire. The Empire probably would’ve won if he had been around

@langleymneely Жыл бұрын
So up until this episode I have had a “wait and see” approach regarding these live action characters feeling like their animated counterparts. I have had specific trouble with Mary Winstead’s Hera and Sabine. Early on Rosarios Ahsoka felt way too subdued and inert in her performance UNTIL she faced Anakin last week. Since then it’s more apparent that Dawsons performance has been intentional as Ahsoka has evolved & gained more faith in the force and herself. In this episode 1 moment answered a question Ive been trying to answer about Sabine: is it a problem with the way she is written or the actresses approach to the role? I solidly think its an issue with the actress and her moment by moment choices as Sabine. She saw Ezra for the first time in over a decade, a family member she thought she’d never see again and her reaction was just as flat and unimpressed as her response to thinking Ahsoka had been killed. What made it worse was the fact that the actor playing Ezra miraculously felt JUST like his animated counterpart from the minute he opened his mouth?! It brought a stark contrast between the two actors and their approaches to these established roles. The only other Rebels character that hasn’t felt right in live action yet is Hera. Mary Winstead is a phenomenal actor and I could watch her read the phone book, BUT 6 episodes in she feels NOTHING like the plucky, charismatic rogue Hera Syndulla. It constantly feels like elaborate cosplay. Ive been holding out hope that once she gets more to do it will click into place but for now, it’s still up in the air for me?
@mightheal Жыл бұрын
I still think they should have gotten Venessa Marshal to play Hera. While Mary is doing a good job and I've gotten used to her I still think she lacks the presence that Venessa's performance brought. I have no issues with Sabine we just have to wait for the story to get out of the brooding phase to get the more interesting and lively performance we expect from the character.
@langleymneely Жыл бұрын
@@mightheal Agreed! Even Marshals speaking cadence is/was unique. She was able to convey so much emotion and personality with just a few words. Winstead has yet to match that for me.

This was by far the worst episode. I haven't liked Sabine since the series started, but I was holding out until the series ended hoping it would get better. I don't know if the actress is just giving a weak performance or the writing for her is subpar or the combination of the two, but I just groan Everytime she's on screen. Thrawn was on point and Ray Stevenson continues to do his thing, but everything else in this episode fell flat including the very noticeable use of volume.
@BoomSlang001 Жыл бұрын
I think they needed another take or two on a lot of her lines. That's the fault of the directors, too. Almost every episode there is a scene that falls flat with her, but I'll admit that I'm more used to it by this point. The volume was noticeable at times. I really felt it in the Ezra reveal scene, which is unfortunate. Otherwise, I don't think I agree that it's clearly the worst.
