Blessing does the worse Elden ring take I have heard: I decided to kill giants over and over in a game that has half a billion things to do. And I didn’t like doing that. I was only getting new summons from dungeons so I decided to keep doing those and got angry and not getting something different
@SNESpool2 жыл бұрын
I might be misinterpreting what he said, but it sounds like Blessing's not fully aware of how the weapon upgrade system works. Complaining that he's not finding any OP weapons that are immediately better than his current one makes no sense, because unless you NEVER upgrade your equipment, it should always be marginally stronger than a weapon you just found. Doesn't matter how cool it looks, a base greatsword isn't gonna do as much damage as a +5 katana; you're gonna have to upgrade it. So the reward for finding new weapons is a combination of trying a different moveset that you might like more than the current one, possibly finding a unique weapon skill, along with the new weapon's scaling and damage POTENTIAL. I've always loved this about From's games, and this one more than any others. Every reward in the game requires you to make an INVESTMENT, whether it's runes/souls, smithing stones, risking a dangerous new area, or even just the time it'll take to reach an objective. Everything in this game is earned, not just given at random. And that makes every new weapon/ash/piece of gear feel significant, even if it doesn't fit your current build.

Kinda odd how Blessing talked about tutorials in this game. They took the Sekiro route by stopping the game to explain the new mechanic, for instance the pouch he said he didn’t know about. Then just in case you missed it there’s a whole menu in your inventory with all the tutorials. I honestly don’t know how much more they could do with the major mechanics. Honestly, usually agree with Blessing’s reviews, but it almost seems like I’m playing a different game when it comes to most of the criticisms. Ah well hope he enjoys the rest of the game. Cheers.

The point Blessing is making at 13:50 & 15:40 is why I personally hold devs like FromSoftware or Mobius Digital with Outer Wilds at a higher regard, the detail and deliberation in crafting these worlds and even just placements of items in their games actually help tell their story whereas most other franchises place their points of interest or items to discover as just another dot to connect to across a vast map that they believe we should be impressed by because it's big & beautiful. Being able to subtly build out worlds that genuinely feels fully realized, ones that has had lifetimes of history to it is craftsmanship that should be appreciated.

So hyped for Friday. Bless’s points of contention just seem to be the things that make Souls games what they are. The obtuseness is part of the charm. @@nathanhargenrader645 well I think his point was from the vantage of it being an open world which is new territory for From. Still valid. Knowing what to expect really is what it boils down to.
@mikeyhavik8152 жыл бұрын
Not intentionally throwing shade at him but I also raised an eyebrow on his point about being too terrified to continue with lots of currency on him. That’s also a soulsborne hallmark and something you have to manage. I get the distinction with it now being an open world but you have to essentially be in a position where you’re prepared to lose all your souls/runes if you keep pressing on. You’re not obligated to go back and get them, sometimes if you build up a ton and lose them somewhere you don’t want to retread, you have to just write them off. There will always be more.
@shadowpsyke2 жыл бұрын
For the loot specifically, his point was he didn't find exploration gratifying because of the reward being loot he couldn't use. About the obtuseness, you have to realize there's a whole group of Fromsoft players who play exclusively following a guide or having help. Bloodborne and Sekiro are two of my favorite games ever and not once did I play them without a guide. But still both those games are fairly linear so even if you're big dumb like me you can find your way to where you need to go.

The one thing I can say to Blessing is that at some point, you stop caring about losing Souls, Blood Echoes, Runes, etc. In NG+3 of DS3, I once lost over 3 million souls. Obviously I'd already beaten the game a few times, and Souls arguably mean less at that point, but still, losing Souls/Echoes/Runes is just part of the process and you gotta be okay with that (in my opinion). Once you have that mindset, you feel a lot more free to explore and experiment and all that, without feeling burdened.

It feels like Bless is really trapped in the linear From Soft game mindset. I had a bit of that in the first ten hours in Elden Ring. But at some point it just clicked and I felt this total freedom. This game makes it so easy to explore with very little risk. Recovering runes is easier than ever because of the mount and fast travel and being able to run from boss fights like Andy said. I'm at the point where I'm not really afraid of challenges or losing runes unless I'm inside a mini dungeon or tight space or no mount zone. And when I have too many runes to go in comfortably I just continue my open world exploration until I can spend them and then come back. There is just so much freedom in how difficult you want your experience to be and when you can tackle each challenge.

First downloaded bloodborne when it was a free game with PS plus a few years ago - didn’t get far and discarded it as too hard and not a game for me. I Watched KZbinrs play sekiro when it came out and liked what I saw so bought a copy, but again, I didn’t get very far and ended up trading it in not long after. But When Demons Souls released at PS5 launch and Andy started streaming it, was hooked and wanted to play something new and shiny for the PS5. I took the leap of faith and bough it digitally so this time there was no going back. I Beat demons souls following Andy’s playthrough as a rough guide and a few months after that gave bloodborne another chance and got the platinum following a walkthrough. Super excited to give Elden ring a go but conscious of playing it so close to launch for guides!

Blessing’s disappointed with not getting a new useful weapon that makes you want to discard your old weapon for probably stems from the fact he hasn’t played dark souls. Even bloodborne to a degree has the same issue. In all of these souls games, I rarely changed weapons and even in bloodborne. Instead I would just stick to my axe and upgraded that to the max, maybe I would experiment with a few others but I would generally stick to one. I don’t know how he played bloodborne but I feel like this “issue” isn’t unique to eldenring

Would love to hear about your characters. Did you use magic? Typical sword and shield?

I’m sure I’m going to adore this game but shoutout to Blessing for voicing a different side of things. Great to get all these varied perspectives when there are going to be so many different types of FromSoftware gamers playing this game.
