Imagine being a developer on Cyberpunk, they give you all this crunch, release the game you've worked hours and hours on when it's not ready to then see the game get slated for its plethora of issues. Oh and you now have to work even harder on the game you knew wasn't ready but your superiors pushed out anyway. CD Projekt Red truly let down their own developers more than they let down us consumers.

@Steven Browning the bonuses were based on Metacritic score. So rushing the game would not get them their bonuses. Delaying it, and having it as good as it can possibly be, would get them the bonuses.

I disagree. The devs knew the state of the game. I think from the pressure of investors, death threats from community, they were in a lose-lose, and figured they might as well take in the money, release the game, and spend some of the earnings fixing it and adding future content.

I dont think its fair to treat the devs with the same anger as those higher up. They are the ones who crunched and they didnt get to decide when the game was released. Decisions have clearly been made forcing devs to remove certain features they may not have been happy with. Yes they are somewhat complicit but they did not actively release the game in this state or treat us customers like dirt.

@@HermanFalckHow Equivalent PC hardware is still PC hardware, not console hardware. And there was no reason to do that in a time when dev kits were readily available to all. The only time they ever showed the game running on (midgen) consoles was with highly doctored-footage so obvious your grandma could see the BS. Avengers and FF7 also never had texture-load issues anywhere near as egregious as this, just minor performance dips. Jedi Fallen Order and Control launched worse than both of those games. You're taking what they said at face value as absolute truth when they never proved the specs of any of their showcases. This game always was targeting a high-end experience that is too easy to compromise on the prior gen, it would be like if Valve had a PSVR port for Alyx, it was always going to be a disaster. They also could've given a PSA the day before launch when they knew for sure that the day 1 patch was far from fixing consoles. In fact the way it performs on midgen consoles is how one would've expected base consoles to perform, there's no question that it launched significantly worse than all 4 of the games you mentioned in comparison. I agree with you that what HAS been accomplished here has been overlooked in this group and that it can easily be overlooked by others. This group discussion perhaps obsessed too much over the politics of the situation (especially Greg who genuinely believes this can't 180 or get 2021 GOTY noms), but the lack of transparency DEFINITELY needed to be highlighted when discussing this game in the here and now. CD Project has forever lost some of the trust and good will they've developed, at least for whenever new games launch from them. But yea at the same time I don't think they're ever going to run away with people's money either.

Blessing, my girlfriend is Hispanic and hanging out with her family and close friends from The RGV it’s not uncommon for them to say a phrase or word in Spanish while primarily speaking English. I don’t speak Spanish but just like in the game you typically have enough context from the sentence to get it. And over time this has made me slowly start to learn some Spanish through every day conversation. I would assume this happened with V as well growing up in a primarily Hispanic neighborhood and living with Jackie’s family. (Also I’m pretty sure V has a universal translator cause sometimes the subtitles will translate for you)

Yes that's true, but the execution from Jackie doesn't feel as natural as real life, it feels pretty forced, like they're writing it this way just because that's how their Spanish friends talk, rather than getting an actual Spanish speaker to go over the lines like Insomniac did with Spiderman. Blessing was kinda wrong in his criticism yes but if it was executed better like Miles Morales, he probably wouldn't had noticed it enough.

The discussion the guys had about the presence of transphobia in the game made me pretty upset. To me, it seemed like the only example they had was the poster that was over sexualizing trans people, but there are TONS of posters and billboards that sexualize everything, so its not being exceptionally disparaging towards one demographic. My main qualm though is that they kept saying there are no redemptive arcs for trans people in this game, when in fact there is a whole series of side quests with a pretty main character who you learn towards the end is a trans person. It was never focused on, it was just a part of who they were and they just happened to be trans and I loved them! To me it just seems ignorant to say the game is transphobic. If somebody has a different opinion I would love to be educated about it, truly.

I don't really gel with this idea that they should have included more commentary around transgender and sexuality. Why would there be pointed messaging on concepts that are so normal in that world? You could insert lines or posters that meaningfully poke fun at the status of those things in real life, but I would argue that kinda breaks the illusion somewhat. Like why would commentary relevant to OUR world be in THEIR world? For them, everything is 110% accepted and exploited - no stone is left unturned with sexuality and body mod. Perhaps more *varied* ads that demonstrate that would make sense, but I think any "wink wink" commentary aimed at us would come off as forceful unless they took the GTA route into parody, which they didn't.

The way Jackie’s dialogue is written, he just randomly says spanish words not because he doesn’t know the english term, but it’s just to remind the player he can speak spanish, it’s not a natural way that his dialogue is written and that is pretty common for how spanish speakers are written by white people

Wait I’m confused, what would the difference be between a pronoun decision dictating your voice versus the opposite? I haven’t played the game yet and I’m uneducated on trans matters, so honest question. I assume trans people wouldn’t want them/they if everyone in the world understood how they viewed themselves. Sounds like what the game possibly needed was both a pronoun and a voice decision, if someone wants to mix it up. Also, the cyberpunk future as envisioned by the 80s/90s has always been the entire point, the goal of the project, so you can’t criticize it for not being an updated vision when that would’ve never been the fantasy. You can only criticize whatever the execution of said fantasy was. This is not a grounded, potential future game, it’s as fantastical and fantasy-driven as The Witcher. Also regarding the poster they discussed being everywhere, I can’t judge it since I haven’t played, but I know the devs have said it was intentional since it’s a city being corporate-run and exploiting trans. It makes sense that greedy corporations of the future would take advantage/profit off of progression rather than legitimately support it. I don’t know how well they execute on that commentary or how subtle it is, but I know that was the idea/goal.

While I’m not Trans and I can’t speak from any place of authority on the issue, I do have Trans folk in my friend circle who cringed a little about voice and pronouns being linked because it can be interpreted that you’re only entitled to your pronouns if your voice is socially accepted as matching said pronoun. For example you should only be allowed to be referred to as She/her/hers if your voice presents with higher pitches more traditionally found in CIS gender females. Granted, I’m just assuming that’s what these guys are talking about when they say it would have been less problematic if the game just flat out asked you what pronouns you want to use, so take my explanation with a grain of salt.

Loved this episode. Loved having Paris on here. You guys all have a great dynamic together. Although, I do feel like Imran is nitpicking things to a point where I’m starting to think he may not like the genre of Cyberpunk? Most of his gripes with the storytelling and world are present in a ton of other popular stories in this genre. Also at around 22min Paris mentions he expected the game to be polished and I just don’t know what led him to expect that. Witcher 3 had horribly game breaking bugs on console. The big issue this time around is crashes, but CD has a history of launching very buggy games that do eventually get fixed. The game definitely wasn’t ready for release, but I’d honestly never expect a not buggy product at launch from them. Either way, I think everyone agrees the game could have done with more time in the oven and CD’s response to all of this is horrible and a disservice to the tons of developers who spend almost a decade of their life working on this product in some way. It’s a shame.

Tons of valid criticism in this video, but one thing I have to disagree with. You all posed the question: why would you ever stealth and hack when you can just go in guns blazing. But from the other perspective: why would you ever go in guns blazing when you can hack every enemy in the building you're trying to infiltrate from across the street. If you're trying to be stealthy and get spotted by an enemy, it makes sense that they'll try to shoot you and raise the alarm, but you can still use hacks to wipe his memory and recover without getting into a huge firefight. That seems like a quintessential rpg element to give you the option to stealthily take everyone out or just say fuck it and go in guns blazing.

I'm playing on base ps4 and am having very few technical gripes with the game. It's has bugs and glitches but it's running ok. I picked to play as a nomad because i wanted to discover night city as an outsider. Only to find out that I don't even get to drive to night city and see it for the first time along with V. In fact I felt like I missed the first 6 months of v's time there. It was just skipped through in that montage. Why wouldn't I have been given that experience as the player as an introduction to the mechanics and night city? Sleeping on your buddies couch until I made enough money for my own apartment for instance. By doing small missions as the story ramped up. The city for as cool as it looks feels like set dressing for the story. Much like it did in L.A noir. Outside of shooting and shopping there's very little interaction. London in watchdogs legion felt more alive. And I didn't think i would be able to say that. In the end I'm doing a Gregg and playing it like it's an update of the fallout game series.

Also, people won’t speak differently 57 years from now, I disagree and it’s something I really like about the world. People spoke differently in 1963. and even know in my mid 30s working at a k-12 school, I feel old everyday haha kids with their slang haha

@@Saugerdees I don’t have the strength points but you can just take the cars or bikes that are near the little gang meetings. it’s very satisfying

It's so funny that y'all had a whole moment about losing your car and I literally didn't even notice until that fake out and I was just like Oh. I guess I don't have a car.

Pretty obvious you guys dont play table top games. Unfortunate because a lot of the stuff you're complaining about is what you want out of a translation of the tabletop game to video game.

I understand what you’re saying here, but keep in mind that a majority of the people playing this game probably haven’t touched let alone heard that it comes from a table top RPG myself included. Gamers shouldn’t have to an understanding of the lore coming into this game, and the developers really should take that into consideration. I’m only five hours into the game and I’m hoping the history of the world is out there I’m collectibles or something.

@@brentgalloway1053 yeah understandable but hearing people saying I'm not liking how the build or playstyle I'm trying to play as is going when they are admitting they aren't playing it well then just killing everyone isn't great. If you want to play thats great but it's not the games fault if you fail at it. Granted I completely understand that the game is buggy as hell and there are justifiable issues that need/can be talked about. 20 mins of i fucked up and I dont like how it went isn't one though.

The start is pretty linear and it took 3 or 4 hours to really get going for me but I've now put 40+ hours into it so far and am loving it . Playing on PC and have only had minor visual bugs like text sticking on screen after a convo has ended or items floating in the air.

This review just shows how much better of a game Red Dead 2 is. Just about all the NPCs have lots of dialogue and feel like their own person. Often leads to many side quests as well. Way more polished. Less bugs. Better story in my opinion. Better characters. The world feels more alive and more detailed, and it’s a fucking western lol. I really hope Greg gives RDR2 another go. I know he didn’t like Arthur and the whole outlaw thing, it’s much more than that when you play through the game. I love the complex nature of Arthur’s character. Really loved him in the end. Way more compelling than V, but yes of course cyberpunk is supposed to more of a RPG, so I get that. So far I feel like Red Dead 2 had a lot more moving parts going on in the world than this does, and it played great on PS4. Anyways sorry for this long rant lol

Loved seeing Parris on the show. And I feel like I fall somewhere between Greg and Parris on how I feel about this game. I’ve put in a lot of hours into this game and I love it. It just sucks that the discourse around the game distracts from a lot of the good things about Cyberpunk.

Everyone (even if your not a pc player) should check out the pc mods that are already fixing problems CDPR somehow couldn’t. Free mods created without pay fixing issues in a week!

I think this game proves review sites should be giving an Artistic and Technical review. Technically this game is a fucking mess. PC and especially console. AI is trash, crashes, bugs, frame drops, texture pop-in, terrible AI random conversations. I play on PS5 and I do like the game, which makes the technical fiasco a fucking disaster. No matter how much I enjoy the game, I have not once recommended the game. Artistic reviews will allow the more ‘subjective’ review to be shown and still give you an attachment to certain reviewers (if you have the same preferences), but he technical can and should be objective. There can be very little to argue about in a ‘Technical’ review.

I actually really respect Greg for giving us a console debate while naturally everyone else played the best version on a suped-up 3k computer lol instead. And hence can't actually talk about the real problems with the game considering the downgrade to console. ✌

It’s a fun game, but definitely disappointing. I had a lot of faith in CDPR but I feel betrayed by them. I have hope they’ll fix things but like Parris said, they hid the base console versions from us and most of us have base consoles. 2020 has been such a letdown smh.

I'm also in love with the game playing the PS4 version on the PS5. I know it's not an excuse for how buggy and glitchy it is but I was born and molded by Bethesda games so even though I have to restart the game every 2 hours (because it crashes) I don't feel like I'm fighting the game that much. Aside from these crashes I haven't seen too many crazy bugs, just the usual stuff that is present in 99% of games like clipping, a janky ragdoll here and there. Haven't had T-posing models, haven't had the "dialog on top of dialog" problem. So yea, in technical terms it's like a Bethesda launch but 10 times better which means it's still a bad launch but not THAT bad in my experience. If someone stole my copy I'd spend the 60 dollars again, that's how much I like it and how acceptable I think the bugs have been for me. Also, as someone who had a mediocre PC and a base PS4 until last week when I booted the game on the PS5 and saw that it runs at 60 fps for 98% of the time my mind was blown. Actually, changing subjects, as I mentioned above I didn't have a PS4 Pro and man... the PS5 really is making me revisit A LOT of PS4 games in 60fps.
