I really like Barrett’s take on this because I like origins more than odyssey even though I wasn’t a huge fan of origins I liked it a lot. I wanted a better origins not a bigger origins and that’s what odyssey got wrong for me. So now I’m actually excited to check out Valhalla at some point, thank you!

felt exactly the same. Odyssey was such a drag but Origins was refreshing at the time. But I really wish ubi hired some better writers because I haven't had a really good ubi story since AC2 or far cry 3 and its the reason i will continue picking up AC games on sale

For the most part the changes are nice, but I agree with the sense that in some ways they went a little too far in the other direction. As mentioned, power level is still a big thing even if it's not called levels, and there are a few instances I've run into already where it would have been nice to have something of a heads up. Try not to spoil here but there's a mini-boss near a certain very early area that seems like you'll just get absolutely wrecked every single time unless you come back later.

I've played through Odyssey three times with no boosts and always went up wayyy above level. After that second area where you are supposed to sail to the island where the vault is I just stop and do 1-2 of the areas you sail by (or do the full island you sail south of if you follow the natural path) and that is like 6-7 levels worth of content that keeps you above the curve pretty much the rest of the way. Its smooth brain Pepegas wanting to power through and skip all side content whining about level gating and the 'side content' in ACOD was never meant to be skipped.. it can just be done in any order instead.

Great way to spend 20 days before CP2077 comes out! I agree with Kevin on his grinding point in odyssey. I just played the game. I was never under level for any quest, and I had actually forgotten that was a controversy till it was mentioned rn. The real balance for me was the way HZD did it, or even Ghost Of Tsushima. They also let you map all of the controls to solve the R3 problem you're having. Ubisoft put so much thought into this game and learned from and brilliantly applied almost every idea other studio's came up with for convenience. Origins was great, and it got be back in to AC after skipping out for 2 1/2 games. Odyssey was a masterpiece! I got lost in this game and never wanted to come up for air! The main story was very straightforward and easy doe me to follow. The side quests only added to the richness of the world and helped me feel invested in the world. Progress in this game was a joy and I always felt like a was getting a new ability, almost to the point of being overpowered. I absolutely love this game. It is my favorite AC, although Brotherhood, and the novelty of Blackflag definitely stand out. So far I’m 6 or so hours in Valhalla and I’m absolutely enthralled. This is the best story so far since the Ezio story. The landscape is amazing, the music is captivating, and I have already had a blast discovering enemy hideouts on the cliff of a frozen mountain, in a half frozen waterfall. It was a wonderful 1 detour. I also love the color pallet and how the colors are displayed in the world.

Black Flag is my favorite AC game and I've seen a lot of people compare Valhalla to that game. Also, most people that have made that comparison say they like ACV as much or more than Black Flag, so I'm really hyped.

Odyssey got a big pass on a lot of stuff for me because the world was beautiful and fun to run around in. It definitely had the Destiny 2 problem of just throwing tons of useless loot at you. Odyssey did have frustrating level gating too, but once you got to the end game, the builds were limitless in terms of all stealth, all tank, etc. So at least there was that. I oddly revisit Origins more than Odyssey though and was not that excited for Valhalla. Maybe I just have Ubisoft open world fatigue lol

I play the same way that Greg and Kevin play, gotta clear that map. My main complaint is that I want more customisation with outfits and weapons like in odyssey, it makes the character feel more personalised. I cleared everything in the odyssey to the point I put in 200 hours into it and exploration felt worth it while in this I don't feel like I'm getting enough out of it in Valhalla.

I haven’t like ac since unity, didn’t complete syndicate but hated my 60ish hours with odyssey. I don’t know if i can get into these new ac games as I personally prefer the classics.

I'm glad that they acknowledged the fact that Valhalla is made by the same team who made Origins. I like to think of this as more of a successor to Origins than Odyssey, which was made by a different team

Who else thinks it would be cool to have an AC game based on Al Muslim the Assassin Grand Master of the Assassins from the first game. It would be cool to see him come up and get more backstory about how and why he became who he was in the first game
