I think this would have been SUPER helpful in college. I always remember stuff better when I hand write notes and it would have been less distracting than my iPad or laptop.

Enjoyed this. Just bought mine several weeks ago. I'm not sure I'll read much on it because for me it feels too big. However, I'm using it to journal. I've kept a handwritten journal for many decades, using fountain pens with a ton of colors of ink. So, I am using both - the Scribe for writing in bed and the hard copy journal for writing everywhere else. If I go out to journal, I'll just take the scribe, and have a journal and kindle with me. A few comments. When I close a journal, it shows up on the home screen, which I don't like. If only what showed up was the journal cover, not a handwritten page. Also, on the Library page, at the bottom is the thumbnail of the last book I opened. So for me, that is usually my journal. It means anyone looking into my kindle (say borrowing it or the person on my family library) can more easily tell I'm journaling. So on the library page, after I journal, I then open a random book, which becomes the thumbnail. I'm one who doesn't use a lockscreen on anything unless the app requires it. I reluctantly turned on the lockscreen. You might have found this by now, but if one goes into the kindle app, say on one's phone, and clicks "more", one sees "notebook", and it opens. The kindle premium pen seems to work on all android devices which allows handwriting. I've bought an extra for my Boox. It doesn't work for Apple/iPad. Another use someone might appreciate is having a sketchpad notebook. I'm have to fiddle around to figure how to move highlights & sticky notes into their own notebook. I haven't tried that since I hasn't basically journaled on it, not read. Nice review. I appreciate your clarity in speaking!

Thanks for your comment. One thing I have done with the notebooks is that I always make the first page the cover page. Then instead of using that page for writing, I draw my own cover. Doesn't prevent someone from going into it on your device, obviously, but I do think it looks nicer than just having a page of handwriting show up on your Home screen.

@@girlvsplanetI've never used a lock screen on any device. So I've added it to the scribe, and I have the digital version of a little girl's key in her diary!

I have a Kindle Oasis and that’s enough for me. All I do is read books and I don’t write notes or do any highlighting with it. They only nice thing about the Scribe is how many more words fit in the pages and less page turning. But that doesn’t justify getting this big expensive device for that reason alone just to read books. Still it’s a great writing tablet for those who will use all of the features.

You basically pinpointed the reason why I never managed to make my ipad my primary reading tablet and why it's been collecting dust in my drawer. If I want to read/study I don't want to get distracted by other apps, so I'll use my kindle. If I want to watch youtube I prefer the all over better experience on my laptop. I really think I'll go for it. Thank you for this video!

It’s so interesting to read to comments like this! I like when people share different perspectives. I love my iPad I use it every single day, if not then every other day. Sometimes I use it more than phone when I’m off work or on vacation. However, I love my kindle because it’s less distracting, doesn’t hurt my eyes as much, and I just get to focus and finish my book. I only read manga on iPad because it looks more vibrant.

Two days ago, I fully charged my New Kindle Scribe, expecting its renowned battery performance to be on par with my beloved Paperwhite. However, after reading a book for an hour and utilizing the notebook feature for a similar duration, the battery level has already depleted to 80%. This significant drop has left me wondering whether such consumption is normal for this device. Having been accustomed to the impressive battery retention of Paperwhite, I would like to hear your feedback on the matter. Thank you!
@girlvsplanet Жыл бұрын
My first thought is that maybe the battery depletes the first 20% or so more quickly and then slower after that? If it’s depleting a lot in just a day, I’d check with Amazon to see if there’s an issue with it. Mine can go for days or even weeks without a new charge so far.
@PolymathCrowsbane Жыл бұрын
Do you have Airplane Mode turned on? My experience is that battery life improves significantly when it's not worrying about network/Bluetooth access. I turn it on when I need to sync. I've also noticed doing a lot of notebook work will drain the battery more quickly. At the end of the day, I charge mine every couple of weeks, which is perfectly fine for me.
@SteamyPMcGee Жыл бұрын
Writing will drain the page far faster because it is constantly refreshing to show the line, whereas when reading it only refreshes on page scroll or turn.😊
@JB-hq9yj Жыл бұрын
It’s well known any new device after first charge will drain quicker due to updating software, downloading your library etc etc. Give it another week before rushing to comment, please. Take a breath.

Great video. I agree with you that the Scribe is great for nonfiction. Your point about being singularly focused (and single-tasking) is spot on. A question: How do you open up a notebook on the Scribe that includes all your highlights / notes?
@girlvsplanet Жыл бұрын
Right now I’m traveling and don’t have mine with me so I’m not 100% about this, but I think when you are reading the book and touch the top of the screen for the menu, there should be a notebook icon. If you tap on that, it should bring up a notebook with your notes and highlights from that book.
@witchhazelscauldron Жыл бұрын
I was wondering this too. I’ve used this feature before and usually just email the notes to myself. If you do that, then send the pdf back to your kindle, it will show up in your library and you can continue to mark it up (which you can’t do looking at it from the book). Kinda clunky, and I’d still prefer it houses with the notebooks but ah well.
@girlvsplanet Жыл бұрын
@@witchhazelscauldron It doesn't put a notebook in the notebooks section but if you are in the book, you can tap on the notebook icon at the top and it will open with all your highlights and annotations there.

I have the Kindle Scribe and like it very much. As a reading device it lacks the ability to remove books from the home page to the library where the collections are. Organizing your books is important so the home page isn't being cluttered with new books you have purchased or books you have read but don't need them on the home page any longer. The Kindle App on the iPhone, iPad, and Fire have the capability to remove the books back to the library and into collections. Amazon software writers please help the reader have the control for a more pleasant reading experience.
@girlvsplanet Жыл бұрын
I have mine organized into collections now and rarely use the home page. Are you saying you don’t like that you can’t remove them from the home page or that you can’t organize them into collections? Because I’ve been able to, and then I just use the Library page instead of Home.
@ritzee13 Жыл бұрын
I would totally buy it if it were smaller. The only reason I'll stick to my Kindle Paperwhite is because it is so lightweight and more portable than traditional books. This kinda defeats the purpose for me.

Are you able to lasso specific sections on a page in a notebook and email it? Or are you able to email a single page in a notebook with multiple pages? Thank you for your time!
@girlvsplanet Жыл бұрын
I think so far I’ve only been able to email entire notebooks, but I’m not sure. I will check! I do know that just in the short time I’ve had the Scribe, they’ve released several major software updates to it that have continued to improve it, so I would expect these would likely be things they could add in the future.

I would have preferred if the camera was most of the time on the Kindle. Holding the device up into the camera each time, really is distracting. I think its more professional to do an intro as a talking head, then film the screen with you explaing in the background, and then a roundup as talking head again. Just sayin'

Great video! How would you compare the eye strain of the scribe vs the other kindles? Looking forward to your video about free/cheap books for the kindle!
@girlvsplanet Жыл бұрын
As far as eye strain, I think it’s about the same as other Kindles, but since you can make the text bigger and fit more on a page, that definitely helps!
