I lived in Sierra Leone for a long time, i have been lucky to know Bala for a very long time. He is one of the kindest people I know thank you for what you have done for Sierra Leone chimpanzees.

Of course he did it was a tragic accident my condolences to Isa’s family But Bruno did do what he was supposed to do he knew the staff of the sanctuary so he knew they were friendly people but those men in the car we’re strangers it’s most likely he remembered what happened last time strangers came into his territory he wasn’t going to go through that again so like a proper alpha champ he rounded up his boys and rushed to his troops defense

Bruno and his buddies killed one man, and severely maimed another when they escaped their sanctuary. This sanctuary is for abused and displaced chimps, so probably not the friendliest group around to begin with. Bruno was the Alpha male, and apparently thought that humans were weak, and wouldn't fight....until he met Gary. Gary not only kicked the 6' tall, 270 lbs Bruno's ass with nothing more than a tree limb to stop Bruno from killing the one man, he saved the maimed man's life by getting them both out of there. Once Gary, who is only 5'9" and 205 lbs., took down Bruno, the other chimps stopped with their attack on the other humans. I'm not blaming the chimps for their behavior. There was probably a lot of frustration about being locked up. That frustration just exploded on the day that Gary, the three other tourists, plus the driver, were attacked in their vehicle while out sightseeing. The driver was severely mauled, disemboweled, and killed.

We might not be as strong as Chimps physically. But tool use and leverage + range is one hell of a bitch to contend with. I do feel for poor Bruno, doubt he wanted to actually harm anyone, and that fight probably made the Chimps realised that a) We're not so weak after all and b) they were doing the same as we were to them. They're highly intelligent creatures, I have no doubt in my mind they understood what they were doing was wrong after Gary fought Bruno. Interestingly enough, after reading into it more, the chimps escorted the two men whilst screaming, which is usually a sign of wanting reconciliation and reassurance that the dispute is over, due to Bruno losing from the charge, backing off then showing his back in submission. As much of a sad tale about the man losing his life, really shows how intelligent Chimps are and how amazing this story is. Human vs Alpha, wins, and basically gets the group to stop attacking due to showing dominance.

I think 270 pounds is a very exaggerated falce number stated in another "documentary". Bala just said in this film that he weighed 70 kg which is 154 pounds.

He didn't think humans were weak, he had humans he was gentle & friendly with. Yet He understood unknown humans were very dangerous. They were on new territory and his job as alpha is to go ahead and make sure all threats to his chimps are neutralized. He was quite scared for his life but it's his duty as the alpha to put his life on the line 4 the safety of his subordinate chimps. I have no doubt in my mind Bruno did not attack out of hate but out of fear. As horrible and tragic this story ends for the human, Bruno did the honorable thing for his chimps. Therefore we cannot hold that against him. It woukd be awfully hypocritical of us to do so being American always honor their troops blindly. They lie 2 themselves pretending they are dying 4 us to be free when they are fighting for capitalist to steal resources that belong to another nation solely for the rich to profit. The freedom for the rich to get richer off the backs of the poor is all the US troops fight 4. Well at least Bruno REALLY did put his life on the line trying to protect his group, Not to collect & hoard the most bananas

If you're going to (attempt) domesticate a chimp then you *MUST* vivisect at least one limb from it's body by the time it reaches adolescent; Unless you're living in a sanctuary yourself (totally removed from humans), it's your responsibility to handicap this aggressive slayer enough to give whatever person (infant or child?) it decides to attack a fighting chance, albeit, an ape w three remaining appendages could still do some serious serious damage. They're incredibly adaptable and can totally survive *minus 2 limbs* whereas we cannot survive without a face.
