King Charles III signs the Proclamation at St James's Palace. King Charles automatically became Sovereign on the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth aged 96 at Balmoral Castle on Thursday afternoon, but the Accession Council - an ancient body of advisers that dates back as far as the time of the Norman Conquest - has formally announced his role as Head of State today. Broadcast cameras were allowed into the historic event giving the world a first glimpse of an ancient ceremony dating back centuries - and one of the first changes to convention instigated by the new King. At 11am, trumpets then blared from the balcony of St James's Palace as the Principal Proclamation announcing the King was read out.

How utterly bothersome! 🙄 Luckily William takes it all in his stride and lays the damn thing on top of the document as he signs, no sweat. 👍

This is all in fact written into the proceedings. Section 13.7 as the new sovereign is about to sign the second piece of his /her oath/proclamation he/she shall be obstructed by a pen box to his/her right and gesture silently with gnarled teeth for it's removal by his /her senior aide.

A truly bittersweet moment. In order to achieve his destiny The King has first to mourn his much loved mother, as she mourned her much loved father. In due course the hereditary principle will kick in again. Long live The King 👑

You really would have expected King Charles aid to be on the ball and NOTICE that the King was obviously having issues and somewhat a little frustration with regards the ink wells, pens and the table size. The Kings aid should have removed and held such items, had he been observant in the first (1st) instance. Surly the table should have been a little bigger to accept and accommodate such large document. Send the aid to the tower for a week.
