Of course he was in the background. This was seating according to Protocol! King Frederik, Queen Mary and Crown Prince Christian in the frontseats. And behind them the other three Royals, who can also officially stand in as Head of State, if the others are "out of town". Queen Margrethe, Prince Joachim and Princess Benedikte. They were all there, because this was an Official part of the transition process. They were invited by our Parliament ( Folketinget ), so they all better be there. Because the politicians are the ones, that decide, how much money the Royals receive ( apanage ). Prince Joachim receives 50.000 dollars every month from the Danish State for his Royal Duties. So again, he better be there when invited!

A thoughtful, new monarch who spared his subjects the astronomical expense of a extravagant coronation. The king put his peoples concerns first during these austere times. He is starting his reign rightly.

It seems Queen Margerethe is a bit peeved to be sitting in the second row. Can anyone tell me what do they chant "Whaa Whaa Whaa"? Is it a declaration of loyalty? whatever it is, I see Joachim saying it, unlike a rogue prince who refused to sing "god save the king at his grandmothers funeral"

Over here in the UK, we say 'hooray!' Or 'hurrah!'....

9 x Hurra(h). The same chant that we use for birthdays, although 3 Hurra's is the more normal. 2 short ones, and a long one.

Beautiful voices and this simple ceremony puts our motley crew of germano-greek imposters to shame here in the YU K. Aye, thurr's nae messing with the Viking culture ✊🙂 Unlike certain other Scandinavian countries they very sensibly retain their independence from a useless NATO alliance and the bidding of a flailing and warmongering US. Denmark was a founder member of NATO, so has been in the alliance since 1949.

Do you pass judgement based on this one minute short video? It was live 3 hours+ on Danish TV. Still basic, but with a lot of symbolism, that flies past most of the foreigners watching that ( based on comments I read ). This is about the relationship between the hereditary non political Royal Head of State of Denmark, and then our elected politicians in Parliament ( Folketinget ). This is not the time to display Royal Splendor in the face of the politicians, who are the ones deciding, how much money the Royals get for their role of representing Denmark. Fun detail, Queen Margrethe was accompanied into Folketinget by Karsten Hønge, a known left leaning republican, who acknowledges the popularity of the Royal Family.
