Great stuff! Just learned it. I'd love to hear Barefoot Desert next. The bass has a pivotal part in the song that can't be replicated by any other instrument. Keep doing what you do!

That's a nice song man, I was actually considering doing it but it's recorded with a fretless and I don't own one so it wouldn't be 100% accurate tonewise. We'll see anyway! Thanks for watching and appreciating
@amyrogers76287 жыл бұрын
I had no clue. Is there some confirmation, or is it just how it sounds? And yes, listening to it again, you are probably right.
@AmedeoS7 жыл бұрын
I haven't read anything official but there's no way you can get those slides on a fretted bass (lick around 0:43)
@figwasp61017 жыл бұрын
Yeah I kinda suspected it was recorded on a fretless. Like you said, those slides. I actually happen to have one though, it's good for not only playing slides but micro tonal stuff like in flying microtonal banana. You should think about picking one up, they are a lot of fun!

Great cover, my dude! Been hoping you'd cover this, since the timing is super weird, and I'm not nearly as good as playing by ear as you are. However, just a heads up for anyone playing, there is a G missing in the tab at the 17th measure in the empty space. In case you were wondering why it doesn't sound exactly like the video.
@AmedeoS7 жыл бұрын
Nice man you spotted probably the only mistake I've made! Anyway if I recall correctly the original track is played as written on the score, I added an extra G when I recorded the song but it's not really supposed to be there
@AwesomeGrandpaDave7 жыл бұрын
I get you - playing stuff that feels natural, because you've done the motion a ton of times is a bitch. I prefer the way you played it, though. It feels too sudden to move an octave.
@AmedeoS7 жыл бұрын
Exactly! Especially since two bars later he plays R-5th-8th of E, I guess it just felt natural to repeat the same movement for that C minor chord
@AmedeoS7 жыл бұрын
Anyway man, as you said this song was very hard to figure out by ear, I always use a software called Transcribe! that allows me to slow down songs and isolate (somehow) the bass track. 100% recommended.

I honestly don’t think that I’m a bad bass player, but I know I’m not a great one. I am struggling to high heavens on this one! Something about the intervals is just tripping me up, and I also can’t play with a pick yet, so maybe pick playing makes this song easier. Since I started on upright I’ve never really used a pick much.
@AmedeoS5 жыл бұрын
Good thing you started on the upright! It'll get you a lot more gigs in the future. Don't worry man, this song is a tricky one for me too. Maybe if you slow it down a little it'll get easier to understand what I'm doing, and you can play fingerstyle if you're not familiar yet with the pick.

hey man, might be stupid question but how'd you get that tone, i love what they did for the bass tone in polygonawanaland and gumboot soup, i just cant figure quite dial it in, thanks in advance.
@AmedeoS6 жыл бұрын
kamodo2299 it's been a while man but I think I added some compression and increased the mids in the mix. I actually don't know which bass they've used on the recording, but I reckon if you open your tone and play with a pick close enough to the bridge you'll get a similar sound without having to worry too much about post production or compression! Hope that helps.

Bknesi97 Ciao! Guarda è passato un sacco di tempo.. A memoria ti dico taglia le basse e boosta le medie/alte. Avere un jazz e usare il pick up al ponte aiuta sicuramente! Spero di essere stato sufficientemente utile. Grazie!

Hey, I noticed you have a small error in the verse. You play E C E when it is supposed to be F# A F# at the F#min7b5 chord. Other than that my transcription agrees with yours.

I keep feeling that there's also an A in that C#m7b5 - that's the note in the tune and I think I can hear it in the chord as well. That would make it what, an A7add9/C#? or a C#m7b5(add6)? :)
@AmedeoS7 жыл бұрын
Eugene Manko you are probably right man, when I was transcribing it both B7 and C#min7b5 sounded okay but not 100% correct. If you hear an A I'd say it's probably another chord and not C#min7b5 ;) if you find out please tell me! Corrections are always welcome
@AmedeoS7 жыл бұрын
I'm not saying your solutions are wrong, they just look way too much complex and I think there is a simpler way
@thescarymoosh7 жыл бұрын
I see what you mean, I was just trying to incorporate the A I was hearing into the solution you already had :) If we're looking for simpler ways, I think C#aug works pretty well here.
