King John - English Monarchs Animated History Documentary

John was King of England for around 17 years from 1199 until his death in 1216, roughly from when he was 33 until he was 50 years of age.
Thanks to the historical record and medieval propaganda we know him as Bad King John:
Not only did he plot to overthrow his own brother Richard I while the good King was away fighting in the Crusades.
When he finally became king himself he made a bit of a hash of it losing Normandy and most of his French possessions;
John is the King who overreached himself so much, the English barons forced him to sign Magna Carta, an attempt to place limits on the king’s powers.
So poor was his reputation, King John was even written into the Robin Hood legends as the villain alongside his scheming sidekick the Sheriff of Nottingham.

My 25th great grandfather knew King John I of England personally. My 25th great grandfather not only knew King John I personally, he also had floor length hair. My 25th great grandfather was absolutely devastated when King John I died at age 49 in late 1216. My 25th great grandfather mourned the death of King John I of England for decades. Jerusalem was conquered by Muslims in the 7th century and was ruled by Muslim leaders for 400+ years. In 1099, the crusaders took it. Just for clarification.

According to Tom Burnam's "Dictionary of Misinformation," "unready" derives from the Old English "rede," which was like a counsel of advisors. Aethelred tended to ignore his advisors, often with bad results. Burnam writes, "Ethelred, far from being too hesitant, was thought to be too rash."

Originally it was a pun. Ethelred meant noble council or noble advise, whereas "unræd" (which has evolved into unready) meant no council/advice. So, he was Noblecouncil Nocouncil. It was funny at the time. You kinda had to be there.

Kinda glossed over that surrendering of the kingdom to the papacy in 1213 by king John & the reason the papacy declared the Magna Carta illegal as it went against the papacy's interest in it's vassal kingdom England & all her possessions, as it is to this day. Kind of an important development. Maybe you could do a video on just this aspect alone & cover the ramifications of this agreement between the Vatican & the monarchy of England. It would be quite interesting.
