I beat the game but I never was able to get all the points. I always used to just kill the snake on the mountain with the sword so i never even knew about the magic sugar cube. That meant I had to walk VERY carefully around the poison vines at Dracula's castle. I used to get so pissed that I got into the castle, survived those twisty stairs, killed Dracula, and got all the way out only to die on those freakin' thorns! AARRGHH! I don't know how many times I died falling into the ocean trying to get on that fish's back. I never though to type "Ride fish". FUUUUU!!! I also had no idea about some of those hidden jewelry. Anyway, good walk through. Ah, the 80's...Played this on my old Tandy 1000 from Radio Shack. LOL.

these games are fascinating, but I agree they are insanely frustrating. and how were you supposed to guess all the commands? I think it was more satisfying to just watch the story unfold on the play through. I wasted so much time on these as a kid.

I discovered an Easter egg of sorts when playing this a kid. In the church, if you typed “kill monk”, you would get a message similar to “anyone who thinks this way does not deserve to play this game”, and you would get an instant game over.

Wow! All these years of playing and I never knew about the magic sugar cube to get past the poison brambles at Dracula's castle. We always just killed the snake with the sword and moved very cautiously past the poison brambles. (Dying frequently, but restoring due to the old adage, "Save early, save often!)
@sha11235 Жыл бұрын
The box the game came in has on the back the picture of the steed on the mountaintop so you might wonder how that happens. Then you've gotten the leather bridle and think to throw it on the snake, who is in the same place, getting the horse who gives you the sugar cube.
@targetrender9529 Жыл бұрын
I remember you could walk through the brambles, but you had to be extremely cautious, and it could take dozens of tries. I did it once, then said “screw it” the next time I played, and ate the sugar cube.

I love these games, my family got an Atari for Christmas 1980 and I thought that was just the coolest thing ever, of course I was only 7 but hey it was great fun. The video game crash happened in 83, I of course didn't even know there was a crash but did recognize that new systems and games kind of slowly went away. So when King's Quest came out in 84 and I played it for my first time at my cousins house I was just as blown away by it as I was the Atari. It wasn't until the NES came out that I really was blown away yet again and I was addicted to gaming at that point. I would play these games all the time and when ever a new one came out I made sure I had to get it. To this day I still go back and play through them all for fun and they're still fun. I'd love to watch a video of teenagers today trying to play this with no help like he had to do back in the day. I wonder how some of them would do? Lol

Really? I mean, I understand Space Quest since that was amazing.. Police Quest wasn't all that popular and the second part really had a bunch of weak points, but I loved it... King's Quest I was the first adventure game I ever played but I would certainly say KQ II was the worst game of them all. All you do is run around and look in a bunch of holes for some pointless jewelry and a bunch of keys. If you say you loved Police Quest 2 & 3, then KQ III certainly was tons better than KQ II.

What causes the mermaid to not spawn, This episode of Kings Quest had had me stuck for so long I just decided to watch a playthrough (Yours). I am usually good with these games. I have beaten every Space Quest, every Police Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, Basically all the best classic Sierra games. I always get stuck on this episode, even when following walkthroughs the mermaid would never appear.. Maybe I was suppose to play on Legacy mode? Your gameplay looks a lot smoother, maybe that's just a scaling application though. I will be sure to play Kings Quest III and finish the series after watching your playthrough. Some games were notoriously evil, they would allow you to progress through an entire game but if you forgot something early on, then at the end you would not be able to progress or finish it, like one of the old Tex Murphy game for instance.
