This is one of the greatest albums of all time. It's at the top of my stuck-on-a-deserted-island list. I've literally seen hundreds of bands live, and King's X is among the very best of them. I've probably seen them live the most (could be a tie with Rush). I never miss a King's X show when they're in town unless there is a funeral or someone is actively on fire and needs my help. Seriously, such a great band, such great dudes...if you're not already part of the fan base, do yourself a favor and get on board.

I discovered - thanks to a friend - King's X when their second album (Gretchen) was the current one. I've been a fanatic ever since. I've seen them live at least 15-18 times. And later - through another friend - have been very fortunate to become quite friendly with the gentlemen in the band, hanging out with them before and after shows, at the NAMM show, and even at a private party or two. All three guys are stellar players and singers, as well as excellent people. Even 30 years in, they stay after every show and do a meet and greet with any fan willing to stay, through to the end of the (sometimes quite long) line. They're all smiles, hanging out the whole time, they generously give each fan their time and attention, and they don't blow anyone off. They are, truly, the "good guys" - and, oh... by the way, they make f***ing incredible music.

I first met the guys in King's x in 1992 while following them on the Gathering of the Tribes tour. We caught up with them at the Boardwalk in Sacramento after the show, hanging out in the parking lot. They are the sweetest set of guys. We followed them again in 1994 for their Dogman tour from Fresno, SF to Denver.

I've been a huge fan of these guys since I listened to an advance promo of their song "Shot of Love" prior to the release of their first album. I've seen them live twice. The first time Dug was in a very negative place and the concert was good but not great. The second time I saw them I was 100% blown away! I've never met the band, but the guy I grew up next door to has been friends with them for many years. My three favorite albums are Dogman, Gretchen Goes To Nebraska, and Faith Hope Love. My three favorite songs are Dogman, Summerland, and Over My Head.

King's X has been my favorite band since '89. I've lost track of how many times I've seen them live. Classy guys and music that is truly like no others. One of my favorite memories was getting to sing "Goldilox" on stage at Trees in Dallas, TX with the other guitar player from my band in '96. I had my arm around Doug and got slammed into on the other side. I Turned to see who it was and it was Dimebag from Pantera. It was awesome! RIP Dime. Best albums are "Gretchen Goes To Nebraska", "Faith Hope Love" and "Tape Head". I can't pick a favorite song.

For a truly wild ride, definitely listen to Gretchen Goes to Nebraska -the whole thing, with good headphones on and your eyes closed. You'll hear every band that's come before and after somewhere in there. It's a remarkable accomplishment, both the songwriting and production. It's our generation's Sgt. Pepper's. They've been name checked as a major influence by Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, STP, Galactic Cowboys, Atomic Opera, and tons of others. Andy Summers (The Police) and even McCartney have lauded them as being the "best band around" in recent years. Most IMPORTANT albums: 1) Gretchen Goes to Nebraska 2) Dogman 3) Faith Hope Love 4) Self-Titled 5) Probably the new double-album coming out in 2021 - first album in almost 13 years and probably their last. P.S. "Give me a nail, or give me bat, give me a skinny, or give me a fat."

Love the band. Saw them twice. First time was a club in LA. They were touring XV. They signed a poster and I said the usual fan drivel. They were very kind. The second time I saw them they were scheduled to play two separate back to back gigs at a Hard Rock Cafe. I paid for a ticket to the first show. The band decided to merge both performances into one giant set. It was an amazing surprise - felt like a gift to the fans. They sounded amazing LIVE. They all contribute vocally. Some bands seem like they don’t try to really nail the vocals live - like it’s an afterthought thinking no one will notice or care - but Kings X gives 100% at their shows and give respect to the music they create. I cut my teeth on Kings X when I heard their song “Black Flag” on the radio and then bought my first Kings X album: Faith Hope Love. One of the only heavy rock albums I can crank loud and still fall asleep to. From Dug’s growling 12 string bass to Ty’s sweet progressions and Jerry’s choice to let the song be front and center, and not over-the-top “show off” drum fills, plus attention to harmonies and lyrics that have a level of depth, humanity, and a spiritual aspect, are why I’m a huge fan. Top 9 9. Ogre Tones 8. Ear Candy 7, Tape Head 6. XV 5. Dogman 4. Kings X 3. Faith Hope Love 2. Silent Planet 1. Gretchen The order changes now and then.

I am a huge fan of this band.About 20 years ago,a local radio station was selling tickets for a King'sX show at The Gardens,a Colorado Springs night club. 10$ a pop.I bought 20 of them and gave them out to friends and family.I went to the show with my older brother,which meant dinner before.We got to the club and the doors were locked.Peering through the front window,I could see my younger brother playing pinball with King'sX. My head wanted to explode.Ty Tabor is a personal guitar hero. ..and my little brother was playing pinball with him and drinking beer and chatting away.🤢🤮 Made me sick.I bought the tickets right? Long story shorter...Best show ever! Then my older brother backed his car into their bus as we were leaving.Not a great night,but it was memorable. Check out a live video of Goldilox . Their first four albums are together one of the greatest four-album runs in the history of rock. Their tone and vibe was nailed down from the get-go. Ty Tabor’s drop-D guitar heaviness influenced the Seattle sound as well as heavier metal acts that followed. Never became superstars, but every serious hard rock/metal musician you can think of are aware of Kings X. Ritchie Blackmore wanted Doug Pinnick to front Deep Purple and says he would hate to follow them in a show. If Ritchie friggin’ Blackmore is scared to follow you, you’re incredible.
@loshambo3 жыл бұрын
Dogman is their most raw, powerful, emotional sounding albums. Contrast to their first four cleaner, punchier, tighter, polished albums, which got me hooked. When I first heard the first chord and crash of the song " Dogman" it knocked me on my arse. Yes they are nice guys. They do a meet and greet after their shows. I have had them sign a cymbal on two occasions. It's very generous of them as these greets can go in into the AM hours.

I love this song and I love this band. I remember the first time I heard Over My Head. I was like "whoa... this is different and I like it!" At the time though I was 19 years old and using my money for partying and never got around to buying that album. And I was heavily into Megadeth, Anthrax, Testament and of course Metallica but also heavily into Queensryche (Mindcrime era). So they had to take a back seat to these guys when it came to priority in what I would spend on. The year that Dogman came out I bought that and Faith Hope Love. I knew that neither of these were the CD's I was looking for but that's all that there was to choose from. I eventually got around to finding GG2N. I would also find Out of the Silent Planet and I was blown away by both of those albums/CD's. I HAD to have them too. I have taken the time over the years to listen to most of the other albums and there has ALWAYS been several songs on each that I really really like. This band was and is ahead of their time really. I remember asking one of my best friends why he never turned me onto them. And I'm going to quote what he said. "They've always been a band that musicians like, but not so much the general public." I think he forgot that I am 3rd generation musician in my family. For the most part I believe he's right. I also think that they are a bit like Queensryche (mainly) and Savatage. Their lyrical content is what was dubbed by QR followers (who has/had as much of a cult as King's X followers) in the fact they are a "thinking man's band". Read the words to Dogman. WTF that about? I totally understand what the bridge is referring to. Also, what band t shirt are you wearing here? I thought at first it was Testament's The Legacy album cover but it isn't. Similar but I have seen that top piece before and can't remember where I have seen it before.
