Removing the bezel, removing the movement from the case (removing the stem), is what I was interested in seeing
@KaanSoral4 жыл бұрын
@Mr_ E54 Do you just yank out the bezel/crystal combo, and then just push/press it back? I've read the Seiko manual too, but just didn't invest enough time/effort to actually figuring out the proper method, waiting for a KZbin video to show the actual steps instead of just skipping the most critical part :)

Being blessed with a dad that taught me practical things with an emphasis on doing things right, I have a particularly great appreciation for these wonderful videos. I too am a details guy,, but with electrical systems and controls. I understand and teach my apprentices all the time attention to details. I see the skill, passion and love you have for your wonderful trade Richard and I think your watch videos among all the other good ones are the best! I hope I get to make the journey to Pembroke Docks one day and get an opportunity to meet you. It would be my privilege and pleasure! Keep up the good work.

It was great to see that you removed the balance complete firstly .that is what I prefer to do to minimize possible damage while working on other parts. . Just a pleasure to watch these videos. Richard. Jon. OC .

I had one of the 5621s serviced over the summer and my watchmaker told me it’s one of the nicest movements he’s worked on from that era.

I would have liked to see the measured accuracy after the regulation. I was also curious how the crown is removed, as I am not a watch repair person, and I could not visualize how that was done, as there was no access to the movement to remove it.
@richardperrettwatchmaker6 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael. Good points! Sadly I had a bit of bad luck with a ScanDisk USB drive and lost a few yards of footage. The stem is removed by inserting a very thin scew driver between the edge of the dial and the inner case edge where the release lever is just visible. Thanks for watching and the feedback.

Hello Richard, Nice job, very nice watch, I'm having the same quick set issue with my KS 5625-7110 which more than likely is also the plastic wheel. I can probably stand a new crystal as well, which sapphire crystal did you use and does it replace the the hardlex crystal with the bonded metal frame and all? thx, Mel
@GordonjSmith1 Жыл бұрын
Given the fabulous quality of Seiko watches, it always surprises me when they introduce 'plastic', or other 'own goals' - Lordy they could really have competed with Rolex and others! But they do indeed produce some fabulous watches, and their dials are above all others.

Hi, I just came across your video and was wondering if you have access to spare parts for the 5626 movement or know a place that might still have some. Specifically I‘m looking for the first wheel of the power train and the plastic fixture for the movement, as both parts broke on my 5626. Kindest regards, Niko
@richardperrettwatchmaker5 жыл бұрын
Hi Niko ... I get mine mainly from ebay either as parts or donor movements. I do not have the parts you are seeking or I would send them to you (unless the 2nd wheel (strictly 1st wheel of the train is the barrel) is common to the 5606 in which case I probably do) ... it's sometimes a question of being patient and hunting around on the internet. You can also try cousinsuk.com but they will mainly only stock very common movement replaceables like mainsprings and balances. Worth a punt though. Sorry I cannot give you a more definite source. Richard

i see very light almost invisible holes on my KS gold medallion and i wonder if i can avoid enlarging them, how they might have got there, and if i should really be worried, the model is in excellent condition.
@richardperrettwatchmaker4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ryan ... it's just wear. The gold is soft and wears quite quickly. The only way to avoid it getting worse is to not wear the watch. That's a choice only you can make I guess. Hope this helps. Richard

Whoops. Lost the case. Video over. :) I just purchased one of these from @VintageWatchServices and Stian did a great job of it. It's a 5625-7060 from 1972. It has a day date complication, but otherwise pretty similar. Lovely watch. Lovely fix. I realize this is early days for the channel with this video, but it would be cool to see the bezel removal and replacement of the gasket. I also wanted to know if it is possible to source a bracelet like the one on the watch? Is that the original?

I have come across with a same watch. Needs an overhaul though. The quoted price was $500! Deciding if the price is justified.

Hello, I'm a watch repair noob and was watching this hoping to learn how to get the movement out of the case. I don't see how to remove the stem from these front loaders. The video skips that process assuming most viewers know how it's done. Could you explain the process? Thank you!
@richardperrettwatchmaker4 жыл бұрын
Hi Eric ... sure, there's a small push down lever under the dial near the stem. Press down on it and remove the stem and the movement will come straight out when the watch is carefully inverted. Hope this helps. Richard

Thanks for a great video. I just bought a SNKL43 (Seiko 5) for about USD100. Which begs the question: is it worth servicing an inexpensive watch like this when the time comes (maybe 5-10 years from now)? Personally, I hate throwing out something that can be mended. But when the cost of service exceeds the cost of a new item, it comes down to the sentimental value of said item. I suppose one could just replace the movement.
@richardperrettwatchmaker5 жыл бұрын
Hi David ... you hit the nail on the head with the phrase 'sentimental value'. If the watch has none then my advice is chuck it! But often it does and often a watch is worth more than its monetary face value. The decision whether or not to get it serviced is then a judgement based on the watch's whole value to a person and this is often not counted merely in gold pieces. If you love the watch enough then service it and forget the money. If the watch business ran on financial logic we alone would all be wearing a quartz Casio. Thankfully it's about emotions, passion and fine engineering ... money is often an important but secondary consideration. Good question sir! Richard

I sold my old SNK801 badly needing service for the same money as a new replacement. But they are throw away watches.

Hi Yanchi ... thanks for the positive feedback. There's a lot of different things that will seize a movement so I guess the video would be how to fault find the common issues. That's not a bad idea. Thanks again. Richard
