He put in all the business work and they just clocked in/clocked out until Joe declined Spotify deal. So my understanding is that Rory and Mal wanted to see the books so they could be certain that what they were getting paid was what they agreed to in their contracts. But Joe said no because he’s the owner. I think Joe handled this situation horribly. Making the problem public like this has only ruined his reputation and and slowed down the money.

What happened is they started on splitting profits and Rory and Mal didn’t do anything to bring in money, just collecting profits on Joe making all the money moves(which they admitted to), so Joe felt they should have been salary since they just want to show up and collect checks. Joe should have re negotiated their contracts or rod out the contract and then told them if they aren’t going salary then he will just move on from them in the show
