Wood actually doesnt really petrify anymore. In order to petrify, dead wood has to basically lay around for thousands of years. But most dead wood nowadays doesnt last that long, because about a billion years ago fungi figured out how to break down wood into soil. So pretty much all petrified wood that exists today was formed before then.

Yeah think about trees growing nowadays too, we don't let trees grow hundreds of years anymore before we cut them down, there really aren't any more old growth forests. Look at even just the density of wood from even just 100 years ago to today, that's not just the type of tree, it's the age, the environment it gets to grow in. We cut down trees so fast nowadays to keep up with demand that we literally cut them down before they're allowed to grow into something that would be more structurally sound as building wood.

Hi! I own a deer head chihuahua. I have him because I am disabled and unable to take care of larger dogs, and at his size he is easier for me to manage. If chihuahuas are raised properly, they can be as nice as if not nicer than normal dogs, but people tend to treat small dogs badly. My boy is a sweet little lazy cuddly guy, who has learned that doing a 'blep' gets him more attention, and only barks when there's someone he doesn't know at our house. He doesn't even yap when he does bark; he was raised with cats so he meows. I love him very much. I really wish people wouldn't be mean to chihuahuas, if they're mean it's because of the owners. The 'nasty little rat dogs' have been raised to act that way! In general bad pets should be blamed on the owners, not the pet themselves. :)

It didn't happen in Philly, but it did happen in Pennsylvania at a place called Centralia. Though it didn't happen because of an explosion. Basically underneath Centralia is a labyrinth of abandoned coal mines that's been burning since May 27, 1962. On May 7th that year, the Centralia Council wanted to clean up the Centralia landfill (a 75-foot long and 300-foot wide strip mine), which was introduced earlier that year. State law prohibited dump fires, but Centralia hired five members of the local volunteer firefighters to clean it up and ignited the fire anyway, with a set date of May 27th. The Centralia Council pretended they didn't start the fire by sending a notice to the Lehigh Valley coal company about it and blamed it on hot weather. It also reminds me of the Darvaza crater in Turkmenistan, which has been burning since 1971. Soviets were drilling in the area when it collapsed into a crater. Their solution to stop the poisonous gases was to set it on fire because they thought the fire would be temporary...it wasn't, and it's now Turkmenistan's top tourist attraction. But the government wants to seal the crater because said poisonous gases are causing health problems to nearby villagers. They also don't want to lose valuable natural resources

AFAIK, Chihuahua's ancestors were brought from europe to mexico by spanish settlers, and were later released into the wild. In order to survive in the dangerous Amazon wilds full of predators, the Chihuahuas adapted by appearing to be sick, malnourished, and rabid to deter predators from eating them. So while it's totally our fault they look like that, it's not on purpose.
