I’m going to leave this here so hopefully some of you will be aware of it before hand. I’ve tried to upload and schedule 5 Spaced reactions. So far I have only been able to get my reactions to episodes 1, 2 and 4 on KZbin. Episodes 3 and 5 were blocked. This week I am going to try and get my reactions to episode 6 and 7 uploaded and scheduled. But if they get blocked this may be a short reaction series on my channel. My apologies in advance if that ends up being the case. Anyway, hope all is well! For those who are interested, most of my show reactions are on Patreon - patreon.com/THEkingboomer

A question regarding your Patreon: I'm guessing it's like most cases, where we need our own copy of the show to watch along? I ask because I have Spaced on DVD, but I generally find that DVDs play at a different speed to the digital versions. Glad you're watching and enjoying this show, it's one of my favourites! 😁

@thadtuiol1717
@thadtuiol1717 6 күн бұрын
As true as that was, rent inflation over recent years has been astronomical and multiples ahead of inflation and salary increases. Don't try and normalise that by saying rents were always high.
@mrmidlife2546
@mrmidlife2546 6 күн бұрын
@ I'm not normalising anything, I watched this show when it aired and London rent prices were/are higher than anywhere else in the country. So when Tim said their flat was going for £90 a week, folks in London went "Pfft. Yeah, right." But maybe it was a bit callous of them to say something that might distress you 25 years into the future and I certainly should know better than to state what happened and remember the joke from the time it was made.

Spaced was the first series I remember seeing where the editing was used to deliver punchlines, it's basically an extra character in the series. They also start using the same "jump-cut editing" in the dialogue to get a similar effect. It was a really clever way to get a lot of bang from a small budget.

Spaced was very refreshing for its time; a lot of British comedy was very studio bound, but Spaced looked fresh and weird. Tim Bisley’s name in an homage to Simon Bisley, a brilliant contributor to the seminal comic 2000AD, which is still published today every week. The pictures Tim draws were drawn by Jason Brashill, who worked on many series in 2000AD. You’ll encounter loads of references to British comics.

@@mandelbot5318 Back before streaming and we had to wait a week before episodes.. the anticipation, talking about it with your friends the day afterward, buying a boxset and getting extras, commentary, behind the scenes, bloopers.. we've lost so much moving to the convenience of streaming. Not to mention - they can just delete it from the library at any time. We're at the whims of the streaming companies now. I hate it.. I miss my DVD collection. I'm sure it's all in storage somewhere. I'm moving away from using the internet so much, it's actually made things not as enjoyable and fun anymore. I was at primary school in the 80s and I remember coming in to school and talking about 'Bottom' with my friends 😂 In the 90s, the most talked about show at school was The Fast Show and Alan Partridge. They were phenomenons. I hope King Boomer loves Spaced as much as I do.. it gets better and better every episode and Season 2 surpasses it completely. Similar to The Might Boosh. The Zoo series is a classic, but after that it gets even more ridiculous and funny. Favourite episode of Spaced? Probably when they go clubbing and it's all implied that they're on Molly (whatever happened to 'Mandy'.. when did that change?) Their feet still tapping to the beat even while they're all passed out on the couch. I remember that warm afterglow feeling after dancing all night.. it wasn't uncomfortable being that stimulated, but you definitely couldn't sleep.😆

In late 1999 when Spaced was first broadcast, the exchange rate was roughly £1 GBP = $1.60 US, so £360 would have been equivalent to about $576 back then. It is the same Edgar Wright who directed the Cornetto trilogy, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Baby Driver and Last Night in Soho. He's also directing the remake of The Running Man and is set to direct a remake of Barbarella. I'm sure he will be adding his own unique touches to both of those.

BTW, Jessica Stevenson is now Jessica Hynes, and she's been in some great stuff from The Royle Family [can't believe you haven't reacted to that yet - VERY British, lots of tea] to W1A. YES! You’ve finally got around to watching Spaced, my favourite sitcom! Don’t worry, I will definitely watch every one of your reactions to this and will fill you in on any references you didn’t get, along with any questions you ask in the video. So, let’s begin… The rent of the flat was definitely of its time. The episode came out in September 1999. So that’s £360 per month, and back then the exchange rate was about $1.60 to £1, so that’s $576 per month. Incidentally, Tim’s line “skip to the end” is something I picked up from the show and use any time someone is talking, but are taking too long to get to the point. Yes, this is directed by Edgar Wright, of the Cornetto Trilogy fame, and you’ll recognise his directing style during the course of the series. In fact, episode 3 of the first season was the inspiration for Shaun of the Dead (you’ll understand when you see it). Speaking of Shaun of the Dead, Jessica Stevenson (now Jessica Hynes), who plays Daisy, was in that movie too. She played Yvonne, the friend Shaun keeps bumping into through the movie, who is leading another group of survivors identical to Shaun’s group. Julia Deakin, who plays the landlady, Marsha, also appears in Shaun of the Dead. She has a brief scene as Yvonne’s mum, part of survivor doppelgängers they pass in the alley. She also has roles in the other two Cornetto Trilogy movies: in Hot Fuzz, she plays, Mary Porter, the landlady of the local pub, whirl in The World’s End she plays the landlady of the B&B.

Easily one of my favourite shows of all time, makes me so nostalgic for my time in flat and house shares. Even down to smoking way too much weed and having a landlord, we knew and liked popping in far too much for a drink and a chat. You should give Top Buzzer a chance, another similar British sitcom that was far too relatable, pretty obscure but another one with a great cast before they went on to bigger things.

Something I only realised after multiple viewings; anytime the ask or offer a “cup of tea” is code for a joint 😂

The guy you thought was Will from The Inbetweeners was in the first series of I'm Alan Partridge. He was also in a massively underrated sitcom with Stephen Graham called Top Buzzer.
