Basketball isn't very big in the UK but in continental Europe a lot of the pro basketball teams are associated with football clubs and the same supporters follow the football and the basketball. The first 'Europe' one was in Thessaloniki, Greece. Taking shirts off is a football thing ... particularly in winter, the lads take their shirts off to show how tough they are !

When you come to Greece, if there is a matchup of Olympiakos - Panathinaikos or Panathinaikos - Olympiakos, you should definitely go and watch it, either if it's football or basketball. It's one of the most heated matches of the whole season and you won't be disappointed. And if you consider going to a match, don't go to Gate 7 or Gate 13. We are still in the quarter finals and most probably Olympiakos and Panathinaikos will ne in the finals(best of 5). But i think around mid August the fixtures are getting public in both sports, so i will let you know with a comment if there is such a matchup for you to go.

Funny thing is that the NBA has put on a few games in Europe but with the NBA rules you can hardly sneeze in the seats before you are removed by Security, the NBA is pretty damn dull as a fan to be in attendance compared to these teams and the NBA especially after the Pistons Pacers brawl in the Palace went a little overboard with the rules.

In Western Europe Basketball is probably the second most played/watched game. But football has such a massive monopoly on our minds and in our societies here that even the second most played/watched game is hardly ever broadcast on tv. Whereas 42 or so out of the top 50 most watched tv shows/programs were football games in a survey a couple of years back in Germany I remember :) In the US there is much more equality and versatility when it comes to your passion for sports

The strawberry is for their stabbed to death comrade Marko Ivković who was called jagoda (strawberry). He was stabbed by a Turkish club fan. Muslim. If there is one thing Serbs hate.. its the muslim. The flag means, we remember our friend, we will not forget. The arch enemies of Delije are ultras called Grobari (grave diggers) fans of partizan. If you wanna see crazy shit... Crvena zvezda vs. Partizan. Cops run..not all make it.

The point is that these fans are not only basketball fans generally. Almost all those basketball teams who have such fanbases are sports clubs that participate in many different sport branches.
