I visited family in the US (Florida) in 1993.99 and spent most of the holiday in the TV room watching college football and endless advert breaks of niney-nine niney-nine offers. They said 'Don't you want to go out in the beautiful sunshine?' I said, 'No, I can die of heat stroke lots of places, but I can only get this here.'

The more you watch these the more details you see - they're not just mocking the stereotypes and the acting but just about everything from the production quality (characters hidden behind balloons), the terrible clothes (Bob's jacket), even the 525-line resolution - not to mention the sheer rip-offs of the deals themselves. The attention to detail is amazing. Only Harry and Paul could dig for comedy gold here, but they find it in abundance.

As a Brit (in the 80s / 90s) this stuff is very familiar from my travels through provincial USA ! Very often, on a local TV station you have some middle aged guy, probably the owner, wearing a stetson, bolo, suit with the stitched pleats and Tony Lama cowboy boots, stumbling through a spiel extolling the great offers and deals with a backdrop of shiny cars and above him the business logo high on a pole. If its windy the camera shakes. So not exactly Enfield and Whitehouse, but not that far off !

I really appreciate the fantastic locations and the scenery and the gentleness of the whole thing. I find that I can relax after a day at work and almost feel like I am with them, and have actually purchased them on blu-ray to watch again and again. They'll always be having a sale that seems to last all year round 365 days a year... On the ads they usually have on TV... Will go something like this... "Get down now to the DFS crazy discount sale... Save hundreds on our previously marked prices... This Chesterfield Suite is now only £999.99... At these crazy low sale prices... These selected Sofas won't be here for long... So hurry now while stocks last!"... 🤣👌

Not many people know this, but Paul Whitehouse was originally Harry Enfield's writer with such characters as "Loadsamoney" and Stavros. Whitehouse did small appearances in A Bit of Fry and Laurie, but came into his own with The Fast Show in which Harry Enfield never appeared. Johnny Depp described Whitehouse as "the greatest actor of all time". Depp did a cameo performance with Whitehouse on The Fast Show. That's all I got.

Recommendation: Please look at 'The Armstrong and Miller Show - WWII Pilots!' Or the whole sketch show - These in particular are great. A good representation of teenagers, trapped in WWII setting/people! Please also check out 'Men Behaving Badly' too. (90's sitcom.) Some episodes are better than others, but the actors/comedians are great and some episodes are hilarious. (They seem like lovely people off screen too) The main men have the same kind of luck as The Inbetweeners lads! Glad you've discovered Harry and Paul! Love 'em. On another note, in response to your thoughts on the R word; I obviously cannot speak for everyone, as what one person finds offensive, another may not. There may be very good reasons why a word is offensive to many. For roughly the first half of my life, I was physically ok and neurotypical. I now have physical disabilities and I know many people with additional needs, whether physical and/or emotional/mental. We often get treated differently. Sometimes really positively, but too often, negatively. But, we are human and do have a sense of humour! (A lot of people aren't just going along with the cancel culture. There's often a common and valid reason why people take offence.) However, there are words and actions which carry deep trauma for many. (Often from physical and/or emotional abuse/bullying/being seen as 'less than' by society etc) The R word included. It isn't so nice, so it's great that it's not accepted anymore. But I can still laugh at this sketch, as a comedy from the past, but pleased we've moved on. Some people have had a MUCH tougher time than me and went through their younger years, especially with school etc, facing awful times and have really suffered. (As anybody does, with or without additional needs, if they've been abused or bullied.) So they may not find this funny at all. It still surprises me when I hear the word 'Handicapped' on American TV e.g. Handicapped parking/people, as we thankfully don't tend to use that in the UK anymore. As I said, I cannot speak for everyone, It's just my take on it :-) Another funny Harry and Paul sketch though!
