Granted, the space between the galaxies has expanded to generate the model of galaxies "moving away" from one another, but the Doppler effect is still the cause of red shift. The reason is because the distance between the galaxies increases; while their relative positions remain constant, the inflation increases the distance between them, which in turn prompts Doppler. I didn't mean that we should ignore or not study abiogenesis, I was saying that it shouldn't be challenged until it becomes a complete theory. There's a crucial piece missing to it regarding how amino acids could have naturally coalesced into proteins, and until we discover that mechanism, it shouldn't be brought up in debates at all. I do think that we should look into it though- we're pretty damn close to figuring it out.

1)He did not see the end of the universe, he saw red-shifted galaxies that indicated that the universe is expanding. 2)A theory is the highest level of understanding that science can achieve. Theories don't get "promoted" to facts. 3)If a debate were to center around the origin of the universe, they certainly would bring this evidence up. Thus far I've yet to see a debate with Hovind that centers around the universe's origin. 4) We have seen stars in every stage of their lives. (continued)

My degree is actually in molecular biology so I can add a bit on abiogenesis. One of the current leading ideas is the RNA-World Hypothesis. RNA can store genetic information like DNA, and it can catalyze reactions and form secondary structures like proteins. Its like a "jack of all traits, master of none" situation, even though DNA/proteins are narrower they are nonetheless better at their respective functions, giving later organisms that switched to DNA/proteins a survival advantage.
@sonargast12 жыл бұрын
Just a minor nitpicking, if you allow: Cosmic Red Shift is technically not the same as Doppler Effect - though the result looks similar. Doppler Effect would be related to the movements of lightsource and receiver, but Red Shift is caused by the expansion of the universe, i.e. the space itself that the light travels through. But that is only a minor detail in a great video.

Thanks for clearing that up! :D But regardless of how punctuated equilibrium happens, the main focus of my point was that evolution is not ALWAYS slow and steady, as you correctly point out, there's rapid bursts of change. Evolution is kind of a two edged sword that way, there's ample examples of slow gradual evolution, and punctuated evolution.

0)Based on evidence from the CBR and colliders, we know that the first generation of stars were made from fusing H atoms, which in turn were made from the most basic sub-atomic particles forming the most basic elements, H and He. The H atoms were attracted by gravity and fused to make the first generation of stars. Then, when large enough stars eventually fused Fe, the reactions became unstable and caused supernovae. (CONTINUED)
@KingCrocoduck12 жыл бұрын
Well here's the difference- for the Big Bang, we have three complete models that just need data to vindicate any one of them. Abiogenesis doesn't have a complete model because of that missing aspect that I mentioned. Now I know that no model is really "complete" in that we know everything about a particular phenomenon, but it's disingenuous to attack a theory that's still in its early stages of development. That's why I think it shouldn't come up in arguments for the time being

A star's energy comes from the combining of light elements into heavier elements in a process known as fusion, or "nuclear burning". It is generally believed that most of the elements in the universe heavier than helium are created, or synthesized, in stars when lighter nuclei fuse to make heavier nuclei-this process is called nucleosynthesis.Through the use of spectroscopy, astronomers can detect Diff. wavelengths of light given off by the presence of various elements when stars go novae.

Oh contraire, TheCrimsonoldo1987. Punctuated Equilibria is a theory proposed by Stephen Jay Gould and Niles Eldredge to explain patterns of speciation in the fossil record. They pointed out that the record seems to show most species undergo long periods of relatively little change (stasis), then undergo rapid bursts of change at irregular (punctuated) intervals.

Hey King Crocoduck, aren't there some instances of "macro-evolution" (quotes because there's really no difference between micro-and macro evolution except for the time it takes) which actually did happen over a short enough time for us to actually observe? 1)Red shift is the electromagnetic equivalent of the Doppler effect. When objects are red-shifted, they are moving away from you. Almost all the galaxies in the universe are speeding away from us, which means that the universe is expanding. 2)A scientific theory is NOT a belief.
