1) The devs have revealed, that lowering the visor will be optional and human controlled in KCD2. 2) Info about the combat system is pretty scarce, but the devs have revealed, that they will abandon the 5 directions system and replace it with a 4 directions system. They are a bit mysterious about it, but they did say, that it should be slightly easier to pick up, but promise, it will be as hard or harder to master than in the first game. One of the things mentioned for instance is slightly more benevolent timing for combos in the new game. 3) The protagonist a classic blank slate character, but Daniel Vávra is actually represented in the first game as he did body acting for sir Hanush. 4) The first one did have a Kickstarter campaign, but that was more to show that there is demand for that kind of game to acquire further funding, because their requests for funding were being denied because a medieval game with (little to) no fantasy elements was considered too risky by all the major players. Now they do have funding and there is no need for another Kickstarter campaign. The company now belongs to the Embracer group.

Everybody is blown away by the fact that there were just 11 people working at Warhorse but Daniel Vávra unfortunately didn't explain it very well in the announcement. Warhorse started with 11 people but when the first KCD was finished they had around 150 people working on it. Also the first game wasn't really funded by the Kickstarter campaign. They just needed to convinced their investor that there's enough demand for a purely medieval historically accurate game and since the campaign was a huge hit the investor was satisfied and funded the development of the game. Warhorse were later sold to THQ Nordic. My cousin works in the company as a concept artist and the fact that they were sold didn't influence the company in any negative way apparently. So hopefully the second one will be great. I'm really hyped for it 🙂

OMG, I pray they bring him back just so I can hear Brian Blessed. Warhorse really understood and went all out on the assignment. The game is an utter masterpiece as is but they also threw him into mix. He’s famous for his role in black adder as the king and just exudes a wholesome, larger than life, medieval vibe. Warhorse as a studio must have some kind of magic crystal ball, or a phone number for the Lords heavenly secretary as they; created a 24K golden artwork, adorned it with gemstones and other lavish and luxurious items, popped it up on 150ft marble pedestal, and then proceeded to get right to work on the next. They are genuinely a role model for all other studios and deserve all their praise, respect and success.

I am unsure about the buildings in KCD1 being smaller, but most of them are actually larger. They have a lot more space inside houses, stairs are a lot more spacious in the game, towers, ramparts, etc. I remember actually Vavra mentioning it that they know it is inaccurate, but when they made realistically small houses, staircases and so on, they had problem with the character being unable to move.

I really like the development between Henry and Hans in the first game. They begin as squabbling young men, pitted against eachother due to their differences in social class and all that. But as they spend more time together they go from master and servant to being really good buddies getting into all sorts of trouble together. I especially like how Hans goes from being an obnoxious fop to being revealed as a more sympathetic and generous guy too. It's just a good feat of writing and character development.

I'm not a gamer but this looks great fun!! The little insignificant nitpick I have is that the blacksmith was holding red hot steel (even if the tang looked grey it would still be insanely hot) with his bare hand!? He would need tongs and a thick leather gauntlet/glove do cope with the heat conduction involved, these guys were tough but they still burnt like us. As for the bows, the longbows never had any wrapping as you pointed out, the one picture of a bow with a 'grip' is a composite recurve bow (horn, sinew, wood, fish bladder glue, resin etc..) and would have a grip as shown.
@markfergerson2145
@markfergerson2145 6 ай бұрын
You aren’t the only one who noticed the blacksmith with apparently iron hands. Those were definitely not longbows (of the English type) if for no other reason that the stance and posture of the archers was completely wrong. Recurve bows are entirely appropriate for an eastern European region of the era, and so are crossbows of course.

I think the devs stated that the story of Henry of Skalitz will conclude in KCD2. One way or another all of the plot threads will be weaved into a hopefully satisfying tapestry. I think there won't be another game in Prague, because of its size and the creators' obsession with realism. For example, in Kutenberg, they allegedly dropped 4 streets against the historical reality and they were unhappy about it. They would have to make Prague a third. A studio with 250 people is big, but compared to the biggest ones, it's still quite a bit smaller. Daniel Vávra said in an interview that Prague would only be possible to create with the further development of IA.

@@fillosof66689 Given that they positioned themselves as a "historical games studio", similar to how other studios get a reputation for their niche style then bring it to wider audiences by sticking to it (very recently Larian with CRPGs for instance, or once upon a time Bioware), I wouldn't be surprised if they stuck to their guns. Maybe another era, another area, but I'd wager they will stick to "bringing history to life" in their games. The 30 years war or the Napoleonic wars (Austerlitz is in modern-day Czech republic) could be a big pan--European project for instance (and the EU loves that stuff, so it's a non-negligible source of funding). CDPR got EU money for The Witcher 3 Blood & Wine DLC for instance, on the grounds that it was spreading folklore, culture (showcasing both Polish folklore and modern literature, and a France-adjacent culture) and showcasing modern capability on the continent. @@anttitheinternetguy3213 Technical reasons. There's only so many buttons on a controller (less of an issue on PC, but the game's functions have to translate across platforms). Given that hood and helmet are most likely in different equipment slots, there would be a need to assign different commands for that. Given there is no gameplay reason to do it, they likely won't. What could be done is a prompt in the inventory when you equip the hood to ask if you want it up or down, or a simple command in the inventory menu. But an in-play shortcut seems to be more hassle than it's worth to create. EDIT: I wouldn't be surprised however if our friends on the modding scene came up with something on PC. Considering the game uses CryEngine (or a heavily modified version of it), the game files should be accessible and somewhat easy to modify, from AI to textures or values. It's not the easiest out there, but reasonably so compared to others. You just need a solid coding knowledge, provided the studio doesn't too heavily encrypt files or modify the engine to breaking point. Edit edit: made a short dive and it turns out it might be slightly more complicated because the engine is so modified that even the latest official CryEngine updates aren't compatible with KCD's version. So you'd need old timers that are familiar with it and have the old tools (unless the studio provides the tools, which isn't unheard of).

It is most proper to have firearms in the game. Apart from Hussite wars (which were only years in coming at first installment's time frame) where firearms were famously used to great effect, the Bohemians seem to have been early adapters of new firearms later on as well: for example the English language has (among many others) borrowed the word _pistol_ from Czech language, since these new short guns came to cavalry use there in late 15th century. You might want to Czech out more into this etymology sometime Metatron!

There was a trebuchet in the first game. Played quite a big role at the end of the game. The combat system, according to developers, should be more versatile. If you fight with an axe, you probably won't need that many skills and combos, but with the sword techniques, you really may go down the rabbit hole, if you want. You'll also be able to forge your own weapon. Those early firearms will be really difficult to use and quite unpredictable. The may blow into your face and scare people and animals. But if you manage to hit somebody, it's game over for them.

Hi Metatron! It's good to see that you like KCD as much as the youtuber whom I learned about KCD in the 1st place. When you were talking about crossbows, I got so happy because I've seen the trailer before & know there are crossbows in KCD2. I was waiting to see your reaction that there are indeed crossbows! I was so happy to see your face light up! Interesting thing to note, when I saw KCD streamed, Henry was not that good looking to me. I don't know if the game devs did that on purpose to show the lack of confidence & how everything was affecting him. When I saw the trailer for KCD2, the actor is sooooo handsome. Even in KCD2, Henry looks wayyyyyy better. It reminds me of how the game devs show Henry learning to read in KCD, you see the words make more sense as you level up Henry.

Great point on the bow wih wrapping. Having tried a few medieval bows it really isnt even necessary. The grip is good enough without any wrapping. some of the bows are very tough to draw. Nothing like a modern compound bow. Lots of training needed if you want to hit the target reliably. It makes sense that crossbows took over.

So I respect Warhorse for being brave enough to try to be historically accurate as many from the historical community will scrutinize their game like the first one. You can’t get every little detail right but they do put a lot of effort into getting as much as they can right and I really appreciate that

Hey Raph, I have an idea on how you could go about the armored playthrough of KCD 2 if you decide to do it. Instead of just wearing some armor while playing the game, you should change armors irl to match the armor that Henry is wearing in game. Of course, it does not need to be an exact replica, just get it as close as you can with the stuff you already have. So if Henry is wearing basic civilian clothing in the game, you should wear that irl. If you wear a kettle helmet in the game you put one on irl as well. Once you get plate armor in game, put your armor on irl, etc. Another extra "challenge" that you can do is that you keep the game running while you are changing armors irl, so if you loot a better armor from bandit no. 1 while bandit no. 2 is aproaching, you cannot just pause the game and put the better stuff on unles you decide to cange the armor irl as well. This could lead to a gameplay where you need to consider your moves more carefully and also test how the trope of changing armor while adventuring alone (in almost all games, not just KCD) actually works.

Playing KCD now and agree about reenactment - bandits wear armor better than most of knights in this game and it strange. Well, the other way it's a reason why I have great brigantine and plate armour on my level :) I also afraid of Cumans' aesthetics because in first game they looked like it's XIII century and they leaved steppes fleeing Mongol horde just now. UPD: found official screenshots and there's same problem: freaking XIII century's Qipchaks.

The actors you see or Henry and Han Capon are the their voice actors (at least if you play the game in english). Could be that they also did motion capturing. But either way, the developers decided to make those 2 characters look like their voice actors. IDK if it is the same with other character of the gme. The game is set in the town of Kuttenberg (Kutná Hora). You hearabout it in the first game, but in the 2nd part you will be there. Henry will get more dragged into the conflict between Wazlav and Sigismund for the imperial Throne. I am also very excited. I love Med Eval games. From Lords of the Realm to Knights of Honor 1+2 over Medival TW 1+2 and Manor Lords and Kingdom Come. Sorry if I have to say that historical accuracy is not as important to me, as long as it has an atmosphere that drags me into the game a well as the fun while playing it. Because if video games should do 1 thing above all, it's to make fun!

I suspect the reason they didn't have crossbows in the first game was due more to budget/technical limitations. They were only a new studio making their first game together on a limited budget so some sacrifices had to be made. Daniel Vavra does say in this trailer that the first game wasn't the complete experience they wanted to make, and KCD2 fixes that.
