Kingdom Come: Deliverance is an action role-playing game developed by Warhorse Studios and published by Deep Silver for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows. It is set in the medieval Kingdom of Bohemia, an Imperial State of the Holy Roman Empire, with a focus on historically accurate and realistic content. It was released worldwide on 13 February 2018.
The story takes place in 1403, as war wracks Bohemia. On the orders of Hungarian king Sigismund, Cuman mercenaries raid the mining village of Skalitz, a major source of silver. One of the survivors of that massacre is Henry, the son of a blacksmith. Destitute and vengeful, Henry joins the service of Lord Radzig Kobyla, who leads a resistance movement against Sigismund's invasion. As Henry pursues justice for his murdered family, he becomes involved in an effort to restore Bohemia's rightful king and Sigismund's half-brother, Wenceslaus IV, to the throne.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a single-player experience with branching quest lines and a interactive world encouraging emergent gameplay. It features period-accurate armors and clothing, combat techniques, and real-world castles recreated with the assistance of architects and historians.

It's nice to see niche games aimed at a very specific audience come out, no AAA studio would have the balls to fund something like this
@KaiserAfini
@KaiserAfini 6 жыл бұрын
Lord Blue Balls EX Niche games spread by word of mouth, the people who love them tell their friends, who can then enjoy it together. Marketing stuffed with false advertising is the be all end all of AAA studios because those games that try to appeal to everyone end up not making a deep impression on anyone in particular, plus the formulaic, focus group approved, board of directors pleasing product is so creatively barren as to be hard to tell one launch from another. Simple test, remove the LotR elements from it, can you describe the gameplay of Shadow of Mordor, Arkham City and an AC game alternating between them mid description and anyone notice ? Probably not.

More like double A. And they aren't really "publishers", they joined the project just last year and are just helping Warhorse with the distribution of the boxed copies. The game is basically indie, with the budget of 5 million USD. This is peanuts compared to Witcher 3 or Skyrim. Also the game is not nearly as buggy as people say. Reviewers always "overlook" glitchiness when it comes to glitzy triple A productions while semi-indies like Elex or KCD, even though no more glitchier than AAAs, are savagely trampled.

Deep Silver only funded the production of physical copies and had no say in the development of the game itself. That's why Steam lists Warhorse as the publisher.

That's not true. The game was mostly funded privately and Warhorse is a private company. What I said is true. Oh, and the digital version for consoles was published by Deep Silver too.

This game might still get better with updates, the devs seem pretty active and eager to listen to customer feedback. And luckily we got an unlimited savegame mod released right away, which is useful especially in the current buggy state. To be honest, I still prefer this to something like Bethesda RPG's which still need about a dozen unofficial bugfixes and a hundred mods to deliver the same experience as this game did on day one.

Its not a bad game, I disagree. People want something different in games, they get that and then they complain. This game is very immersive, and I’ve never seen forests in a game like this before. The combat has a learning curve and its really satisfying once you get the hang of it. It can be frustrating when you lose a battle and die, but it’s always a thrill going back and facing your enemies once again. This game has some really emergent gameplay as well. I’m not going to complain, it’s different than games like Skyrim. That’s a good thing though, I don’t want to play 11 games that feel like Skyrim.

For me, the good about this game are graphics and the medieval setting. The bad: combat and saving system. I mean, you know there's something wrong with saving in this game when Skallagrim bitches about it and installs Unlimited Saves mod himself. And combat requires grinding and decent gear for it to become half decent. This game is all about grinding stats and minmaxing gear.

I don't understand why some people (not GGG necessarily, he seems to be making the same argument as me with his Sistine Chapel analogy) keep conflating the technical side of a game with its artistic merit. New Vegas was just as great a game on release too, regardless of the bugs. So is this game. And it's bugs will get patched eventually as well. Edit: Holy shit, nowhere ever did I say or even imply that people shouldn't voice their complaints regarding bad technical execution, or not include them in reviews, or that they are not valid for any reason whatsoever, or "made any excuses" for launches like this one, or that they should run to the store to buy this day 1 despite the bugs, or whatever else people have been wrongly accusing me of in the replies below. Guys, I am 100% behind the consumerist viewpoint. No 120%. No 200%. No, 1000%! I agree with all your points on this topic! I was just pointing out the *fact* some people seem to not be aware of (or are too angry to remember, which is understandable, as games are expensive and we can have an investment in them even before they come out because of marketing, hype etc.), that the artistry of a piece doesn't overlap 100% with its technical dimension. Putting it through the words of one poster below, a defective product can still be art (or otherwise have artistic merit). This I hope doesn't require any more explanation, as there are countless examples to illustrate this both from gaming and outside of it. This isn't an excuse for anything, or invalidating any criticism regarding crashes/performance/glitches/unacceptable launches etc. It's just a reality that runs parallel with all this. These two things shouldn't be conflated, and its important to give both of them (yes how they currently stack together, without a doubt, but individually as well) their fair shake when discussing/reviewing art. And regarding New Vegas, if you don't like that particular game, I'm sure you can substitute it for another one that works for you. Like Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines for another example. And if you think that game sucks too, I'm afraid you are afflicted by a terrible case of shit taste, which is very unfortunate for you.

I don't have any problem with the vid title. If you're sufficiently "woke" enough to realize that it's a clickbait title, then no harm no foul. Should everyone just title their vids with humdrum descriptions so that certain people won't get "offended"? :P There's really nothing wrong with titling a vid with something intriguing that piques the curiosity of the casual viewer. The many people who stop listening and make their own opinion will continue to do so regardless of what sort of title is on the damn vid. heheheh ;)

The speed of combat does change with different weapons. Maces are better with armored opponents, axes are better with people wearing chainmail, and the sword works best on people who have cloth armor. doesnt mean you cant use a sword on someone with armor, itl just take longer. Also pole arms are OP
@slingshotmcoy
@slingshotmcoy 6 жыл бұрын
Also depends on what kind of attacks you use. A longsword with a sharper point will have better anti armor potential than others. The descriptions of the weapon in stats aren't just for fluff, they help describe more of the profile around the weapon. A more durable, heavy, but not that sharp longsword can do just as nice blunt damage as some clubs do if you use the right attacks at the right time.

Hold up. EVERYTHING YOU'VE SAID ABOUT SAVIOUR SCHNAPPS IS OBJECTIVELY WRONG. You start the game knowing the recipe. So even if your alchemy skill is zero you still know how to make it. One of the ingrediates is found everywhere in abundance (nettle) while the other is sold everywhere from every apocathery in the game (belladonna). All in all it will cost you about 7 gold to buy enough ingredients for one SS brew and 6 of that is the two belladonna. Brewing also only takes about 30 seconds total for a single potion. If you think thats too long then tough, that's how long it takes. If you just brew your own SS then you're only limited to how much you want to carry. It's that fucking easy.

Well to be fair, this was made by a rather small and unknown studios. It's bound to have problems here and there. Hell even big games have tons of bugs...cough BETHESDA cough... It somewhat reminds me of the messy release of Fallout New Vegas, the game is great but the bugs and graphics are still horrendous. But when you get past that, it's an awesome game. You don't see many Medieval RPG with a realistic setting. I'm seriously loving it! And for once it looks like the studio is listening to the complaints.

Too bad you didn't play more before reviewing, like you said connecting combos (4 hit combos especially) at first would be almost possible if the enemy wouldn't parry the first or second attack, but in the "late game" you can't connect combos at all because even people with full plate armour die in a couple of hits. My only complain with the game is its length and end-game, I cherish the first hours of my playthrough when I didn't know how to parry and actually had to practice with wooden swords, and be patient while fighting otherwise I'll get trashed, I wish the game would have kept me in that state for longer. Besides that the side quests are really memorable and some characters are very well portrayed.

Gggmanlives, I'm sorry about this but I'm going to have to disagree with you on this. The game is built from the ground up to be realistic so obviously, you wouldn't be able to rush into a bandit camp and immediately slaughter everyone in it, even in the gameplay demo video on the store page says that you should take it slow and plan out your attack before you strike. this game is MEANT to be slow because real medieval combat (to my knowledge) was about out thinking your opponent rather than swing your sword more times to win. this is an RPG in more of the old school sense, rather than the modern sense. based on your review it seems you would want this game to basically be Skyrim 2.0 rather than its own thing. the game isn't a power fantasy, it's an actual RPG where you have to ROLEPLAY a person living in the 1500s.

Uhm, that little purple gauge that show up next to your own lifebar when fighting someone... That's the opponents lifebar. You can tell when you deal damage by... You guessed it! Checking their lifebar! :P But also, there's audio cues. A properly connecting strike has a certain sound to it. And usually blood squirts out, or at least sparks from the enemys armour. If they parry it with the shield it has a hollow wooden "thud" to it. And a properly parried weapon with another weapon has a loud metallic klang to it. Keep in mind though. Just like you, the enemy has stamina. And just like you, they won't take large chunks of damage until their stamina is depleted. So much of the time you have to wack away and force the opponent on the defense until they get fatigued enough for your hits to start connecting.

I don't see how not being able to save every second is a flaw. While Dark Souls saves automatically, many older RPGs used "rare" spots like sleeping in beds or taverns (e.g. Secret of Mana), earlier TES games required beds to level up, etc. Looks like their design is aiming at an oldschoolish "gaming experience" like Gothic, one of the best RPGs ever made (not the save system mind you). Legend of Grimrock 2 had similar mechanics that allowed you to only save at "rare" healing crystals, in case you chose that option before. A neat way to up the difficulty since you could even make it single-use only. Not for the faint of heart. Didn't even Farcry 2 have certain houses which limited the opportunity to save the game? But as an FPS crack, you certainly have a different perspective which is why I hinted at The Blade of Destiny. In that game in particular careful preperation was key to surviving in the harsh wilderness and the concept of a journey was taken very seriously in this oldschool RPG. Playing Deliverance with that mindset would give it a different spin other than "It sUckzZz111 mans". Losing progress due to checkpoint-systems is not uncommon, but obviously it is the sheer amount of time lost in this case. Then again, if you are close to villages, you have the chance to save often. If you travel "out there", it is a journey (perhaps with no return), so it is in line with the overall design. I just watched a bit of gameplay and a crash after over an hour reset almost the entire tutorial. That's a bummer for sure. The irony is that the use of Schnapps (double-p -> short "a" as in "shnups" or Hans) was not explained in detail so they did not make use of it. And if these are indeed uncommon or expensive, they are precious and require the player to think twice before making use of that helpful tool. Item management has always been a huge deal in old RPGs. You might urgently need item X and Y at some point in the future, so you held on to them till the game ended. That's quite refreshing in today's games' designs with handholding and fast travel for fucking retards.

I think they aired out MOST of the bugs in the game. There is one bug where you can’t hit people but there is a fix. Go to the menu, take off everything, save the game, then do training and the problem should be fixed. At least it’s something like that. I suggest doing the new game for this fix, get the schnapps before doing the training, take off everything, save, exit the game, go back to the game, pick up from where you left off, and start the sword training. It’s odd but it works

The save system is actually kinda interesting I think. Think about how often we save in games like Skyrim and fallout, making saves tough to get would make us follow through with our actions. Get spotted stealing, just reload your save. Hard boss fight coming up, just save the game in case you die. I think this new save mechanic is pretty good in making players stick with their decisions, especially in rpg games like this.

I highly doubt it. One of the siege missions if too many NPC's die, you fail and I failed the mission numerous times when I was killing as many people as possible. I highly doubt it's passable without assisting them.

Seems more like a youtube watch than a buy and play. Also I remember reading parries were pretty rare in sword fighting(funny watching a bunch of medieval extra parts of dvds and cant remember what they say now..). For the realism I would have hoped theyd ditch the stat progression system. I'm fine with it sword and sorcery and that sort of nonsense, but if youre going for realism, dumping stats into something like 'vitality' just seems bizarre.
@The_Blog

You aren't really dumping points into vitality. You gain those stats by playing the game, similiarly to the Elder Scrolls series. So when you fight with the sword you get better with the sword, when you run a lot you get better vitality. Every few levels you can get an extra perk that gives some gameplay benefit. Not the largest difference, but you aren't really putting points into attributs.

ultraboy222 BloogingLp already cleared this up regarding this game. But as far as stats progression systems go, theyre fine in a D&D context, but when youre striving for realism it seems bizarre and illogical to assign arbitrary numbers as 'stats' for a person. We aren't rolling dice, and we dont need the wizard poking his head out behind the curtain reminding us that its maths at work under the hood. Just seems like a relic of a bygone era being used because its what people know and are used to.

ultraboy222 Reread my very first sentence. BloggingLP already this in regards to this game. There was an entirely new paragraph that was started where I then specifically addressed a stat based progression system. Also reread my reply in regards to that. We as gamers already know that there is heavy maths already at plat deciding things. If youre aiming for strict realism then youd need to make it more natural than putting in the old chestnut of strength, vitality etc.

ultraboy222 Also not sure about your reply about 'average joe' here. Average human being? I guess, but your average running speed is defined by a variety of factors, surface, footwear, what situation you are in(a life endangering situation would give you a boost Id imagine), probably your genetics, where you are(running a kilometre detroit would be quite different versus running one in cuzco for example. And of course the shape youre in, health wise and physical shape.

I know they want to cut down on save scumming but a more generous autosave that triggers after each quest progression (not just start and completion) may do some good to alleviate that whole “I trained herbalism up for 30 minutes while wandering toward another quest, stumbled on bandits and got some of my shit kicked but won, now I’m sloggin’ it to a trader to sell my loot when a random ass Cuman jumps from the forest and you gain 5 skill ups barely denting him but you can’t run because you are overburdened so you just die and question life’s purpose” syndrome.

All I can think of is how this game reminds me I was born like 5 centuries too late, at least. :/ I'd rather have a higher risk of cholera and be a faithful knight than be a diabetic low-testosterone freak in a polluted crowded urban hellscape.

I love when games try to show "realistic sword combat" and then portrays something that is absolutely nothing like realistic sword combat. They aren't using proper swings and it's way slower than real combat would actually be.

therainbowpigs they're also not even close to throwing any of their strikes correct or utilizing any proper technique. So there's my main point. One doesn't simply swing a sword like a club. Like in this game.

A good review for this game. The one bit of advice I can give is that when playing if you have an SSD with some space I'd highly recommend transferring the game to that, it will run much better and will mostly fix the pop-in issues. Also combat with a mace is actually faster paced in that it is much easier to damage guys with armor, I have a mace in-game that lets me one hit or two hit kill enemies depending on the quality of the armor, and provided it is a strike to the head.

I wish there was like a "casual" mode where the combat is more like dying light or Skyrim. Swing till they die but still kinda difficult. I just know that will be the thing that ruins the game for me and I don't want to spend $70 on a game when I won't enjoy the combat.
