I think Kairi and Sora have a lot of history. They grew up together. In KH1 and KH2 you can see it. I think the only problem with their relationship is KH3 is that they spend zero time together so it seems kind of unfamiliar. She got the most development in KH2 I think. She really showed independence and fought to remember Sora and see him again.
@Ncholasbloom3 жыл бұрын
this thank you and while i strongly disagree saying they had zero time together in kh3 they have development throughout the series nomura purposefully brought callbacks from both kh1 and re com (when chirithy says look for the light in the darkness) during the final world segment to really show that something is there between them in fact a friend of mine made a video a few months ago talking about them being starcross lovers they always seem to be seperated but find eachother again and there destinies are intertwined now which actually gives the teamattack one heart alot more importance in terms of there relationship now in terms of her development while yes it could be better i felt it was handled well in 3 she wanted to do her part to help which she does twice if you count the dlc and as you said that you felt she got the most development in 2 she may not be as skilled as sora and riku but still manages to contribute maybe not in the way fans expected but contributes regardless i also just wanna say that no matter how hard a person trains the opponent could always be stronger cuz i know many had gripes with her training since they were in a place where time didn't matter but the same can be said for vegeta and trunks in dbz they trained in the time chamber for a yr yet cell was using them to test out his final form plus kairi is new to the keyblade so to put her in a war is risky but she managed to make xemnas scared alittle

With the way this game ends, there is a strong indication that Kairi will still have a large role to play in future KH games. I'm sure she'll get her time to shine. As far as Sora and Riku being a thing, I just don't see it. At all. I see a strong brotherly or friendly love. I live with my best guy friend and his GF. I love them both to death and they both love me. I'd do anything for my guy friend. He means the world to me. There have been moments he has hugged and held me when I was at my worst, and I have done the same for him when he was at his lowest. There is no sacrifice I wouldn't make for him. But not once have I ever felt that was romantic or sexual love. I think people here *cough* the streamer *cough* seem to have forgotten that people can love each other without it having to be a romantic or sexual thing. Not to mention, Riku also finds his own lady in the end cinematics. He isn't romantically in love with Sora. There are rainbows all over the game? So what? It's a Disney game. Of course there are rainbows! Not every rainbow stands for something gay! Watching others try to force the logic of the game to make everyone in it gay, lesbian, or bi for their own satisfaction or self validation of their own sexual identity is really kinda off putting. I almost stopped watching this video mid way because how much it kept being brought up and how forced it felt. The streamer is clearly ignoring the obvious relationship Sora and Kairi have to make way for their own fantasies and fetishes for the characters.

The little rant you had about Kairi is something a lot of Kingdom Hearts fans have felt for YEARS. Nomura seems to be teasing something more for her based on more recent interviews but so far, Kairi's really been a nobody and it sucks since she's one of the first characters too. I'm really hoping we'll get a future Kairi game, I want to believe Nomura about this plan of his with her but we'll see in the upcoming years. That said, your KH journey has been amazing to experience and honestly I just subscribe to the Sora poly ship since I feel like that's the best of both worlds for him lmao

I am a huge Kairi fan, and I completely disagree with her. What is wrong with pink and flowers?!? I love her outfit (which has shorts underneath anyway. Plenty of women irl wear skirts with bike shorts under it, including myself.) Her Keyblade references her Home Worlds of Radiant Garden (The flowers are from Radiant Garden. The same flowers can be seen in it's world logo) and Destiny Islands (Wave/Sand). Her Keyblade directly ties into her past*. *Her past by the way, was that she was kidnapped as a 4 year old and experimented on (secret reports, later shown a bit in MoM), and lost all of her memories of her family there. She was later adopted by the Mayor of Destiny Islands (This is referenced in final mix kh1). Her past is actually shown a little bit to be a sore spot for her (Interaction with Aqua, MoM). Yes, it should be developed on more, but it is there and her Keyblade really isn't "just flowers". It has meaning in it's design. Also, in my opinion it's really backwards to think that anything feminine = bad and "sexist". I was a tomboy growing up, with only brothers, and that's honestly how I thought when I was child and hated myself or wanted be "not like other girls". It's an immature mindset to be in. Not only that, but it really just ends up being misogynistic itself, to think things like pink and flowers are inherently "bad" and in order for women and female characters to be progressive they basically need to be more masculine/have masculine traits. That's something I cannot agree with. Because women come in all forms and one shouldn't be considered more "valid" than another. That's basically what it felt like she was saying with that line. That Kairi isn't masculine enough to be a good or progressive female character. I disagree. I also find this idea frustrating, because Kairi *is* already a tomboy. Just because the japanese ideas of a tomboy character looks different to the western ideas of one, doesn't make it bad. Yes, kairi is a feminine tomboy, but there is literally nothing wrong with that. Now as for her character development, yes, it's lacking. And I really hope we get more. But I think that to call her "Just a plot device" does a disservice, especially when really you could say the same about Namine (especially in kh3), and you could say Sora is just your average shonen anime mc and the player insert, and Riku is just the typical shonen rival childhood friend. Frankly every member of kh is a plot device because that's what a character's function in a story is, to move along the story. Kairi does have a personality, and background, character motivations and insecurites. She becomes incredibly insecure over kh2/kh3, they both give her lines and animations where she is blaming herself, basically saying what the fans do to herself; KH2: "Sora's in danger, because of me" *looks down* (it's all my fault) MoM: R: "Kairi, that's not going to be possible" Then her lines after riku says that, and how they animated her, show that is beating herself up again, frustrated, before resolving herself to become stronger. She pushes herself and chooses on her own to train under Aqua, which I also believe is a sign from square enix they are seeing us. There are moments like that, that do show who she is. It feels sometimes like people ignore her cutscenes over the franchise (Needing to be told to go by Riku to go in kh1, because she didn't want to leave Riku behind. Even assuming a battle stance a few times during those scenes in hollow bastion. Snapping at Axel and Saix in kh2) and the underlying lore about her, which I am willing to admit I also know more about due to Nomura interviews, Ultimania translations, final mix and ansem reports not everyone is going to delve into. So this turned into a rant, and I probably sound a lot madder than I really am irl lol but it's because I am frustrated by the same old lines being parroted around by people about her, and the idea all female characters need to be like captain marvel or something to be "good" or "Progressive" female characters. It feels like nothing they give Kairi will ever be enough for people because she isn't going to be made into some hyper masculine mary sue woman (which I prefer especially because people literally used to say in the 2000's "mary sue" to sh*t on the character), and people will still hate her because she "get in the way of my ship". It just feels like at this point no amount of character development will please people because they're resolved in their hate of the character or because they don't like sokai (I have no problem with people just disliking a fictional character or ship or shipping soriku, but I wish they'd just be honest and say they just don't like the character or character design because it's not their personal taste, instead of things like "pastel red and colorful plants bad". I have met so many mysogynistic women soriku fans that it's honestly sad, and It feels like it's the real reason those kind of fans don't like her).
@UltimaSenkai3 жыл бұрын
@@kit76149 I personally also believe that there's nothing wrong in being traditionally feminine but Kairi in most of KH so far has been relegated into a damsel in distress which is also part of a sexist idea of feminine women. That they must be saved, which is what I think Violet might've thought about. (not saying Nomura is sexist but the trope is just embedded in old and sexist views) The main thing really is her development (which even you admit is lacking). Kairi has a lot of little things but ultimately they kinda are unsubstantial at best. None of them really delve into her as a person/character. like Violet also mentioned, we know what Aqua likes and her strengths and her fears but we don't really know Kairi in that level of depth as a character/person. general ideas and dot points are one thing but to actually explore it and understand it is another.
@kit761493 жыл бұрын
@@UltimaSenkai I see and agree with some of your points here, but also I don't really see how Aqua is that much better. I have to kind of disagree there. Kairi does have insecurities presented to the player, no different than Aqua, just that Aqua's have been explored more because she has had more screentime. You say dot points but that's the same for Aqua, isn't it? Kairi likes crafting stuff, writing, ice cream and hanging out with Sora, Riku, etc. Kairi says she hates mushrooms in kh1. Aqua likes Ice cream, making wayfinders, special spells? and spending time with terra and ven. It doesn't seem really much more deep. We don't know much about *any* of the kh casts likes/dislikes very much. It's "general ideas and dot points" for all of them, probably because the story focuses on other things most of the time. Riku is the most developed out of all of the main cast, and I can't say I really know his interests very well either. I think that what makes Aqua seem so much more developed is that we got to play as her as the mc twice and her ptsd/realm of darkness arc she goes through. Which sadly people also called Aqua useless, until the ptsd thing was confirmed in remind. I just think it's unfair to single out Kairi in this aspect when all of the kh characters don't have that aspect fleshed out very much, probably because the devs have decided to focus more on the general story or moving the plot along. Which Is also probably why they have decided to use a trope that is old-fashioned without really thinking about it, because it was a lazy or easy way to get the plot moving. I don't agree with it but I can see why they did. To be honest though, imo people really over-blow the damsel thing. KH1 I don't really see as being a damsel that much, since she was with Sora and Riku the whole time, then when she woke up she saved sora and brought him back and was in a battle position in the cutscenes even though she wouldn't have stood a chance. Plus without that whole kh lore nonsense Roxas and Namine wouldn't exist and It was necessary to develop Riku's whole kh1 arc. In kh2 literally the only reason she gets kidnapped is because she decides to be active and didn't want to sit on the island, and axel took the opportunity because he wanted roxas back. Then some really great scenes follow it imo. The only really egregious example that *was* entirely unnecessary to do was kh3. I get killing her so then Sora vanishes and ends up in tokyo, that's clearly why they did that. But they could of handled it better and I think they noticed our frustrations because in remind she is doing a lot, the dlc is basically about her.
@kit761493 жыл бұрын
@@UltimaSenkai I do agree though with your last line and I really wish that, not just Kairi but the whole cast got better development. Sora really needs it too lol. Your reactions to the nameless stars(?) conversations part in The Final World has got to be the most shockingly emotional and genuine thing ive seen in just how much i was not expecting it. I've seen a lot of KH3 reaction videos and i dont recall anyone else having such a concrete, visceral reaction to those dialogues (well, monologues). And even when i myself was playing the game, i was totally skimming through that part - just single-mindedly obsessed about 'getting to the next objective of the game'/saving the world/saving my friends. I realize now that i was playing as myself; i wasnt playing as Sora. Sora WOULD stop for the voices of the lost and the forgotten. Even if his friends were in danger, everyone was important, and worthy, of his attention and his compassion, even strangers, faceless and nameless strangers. It wasn't that he didnt care for his own friends, or the fate of the world, but that he cared unconditionally for everyone. That's crazy. And worthy of respect. In that instance, you played as Sora where countless and countless of other players have failed to do. Just want you to know that that is way more amazing then you may realize.

i've been binging your reactions the last couple days and it's been so nice to experience all of kh again through you (i'm someone that's been playing since I was a kid lol). it's really sweet to see how you fall in love with the series and characters. your reactions really resonated with me because i reacted a lot of the same way, for all of the wholesome and sad moments the series has. your reaction to the paopu scene in this scene really brought me back. you're not alone, i remember feeling really upset with it too. i was playing on a stream for my friends only so i'm sure they heard some real colorful language from me. it's really frustrating that a lot of people just single us out as mad shippers when there's so many layers to why some of the developments irt the (heavily implied) ship(s) are so irritating. like, obviously yeah, as a soriku shipper it was sad, but more than that it was the homophobia and misogyny of it all that makes it so frustrating, especially as a bi woman myself. after dream drop distance, there was this strong feeling among sr shippers that there was actually a chance given EVERYTHING that happened up until that point. i don't think people expected any verbal confirmations but an implication at the very least a la sharing the fruit or just... more screentime together overall lol... and just knowing that it'd all be different if one of them was a girl. and then the misogyny with kairi like god, she's really been relegated to love interest and plot device for sora's manpain since the first game. i /want/ to play as her more, i want there to be more screentime for her and for her and her relationship with sora to really develop, but a lot of the series has done a lot of telling instead of showing in that department, and i feel like that's why so many of us were completely blindsided. and the fact that the series is just gonna continue with this... lmao. anyway sorry for ranting in your comments but i just want you to know i felt so seen when you were so upset you cried a bit at that scene bc same. i love your reactions! your feelings are really infectious🤗

So, this is coming from someone who was perfectly fine with the Sora/Kairi stuff, I think they had plenty of chemistry as a couple - I just want more Kairi. Re:Mind was a good start, making her playable was wonderful - and making her the best character in the series from a playable standpoint was unnecessary but welcome, god that fucking strike raid teleport is great - but I do need more. That being said, yeah, I think they're a cute couple. And I enjoy Sora and Riku being able to show a different kind of love. A deep level of affection that isn't explicitly tied to romance or sexuality, that should be normalised - especially between men. Here's my contention. I feel bad for Soriku shippers. They do have a lot of chemistry, it is a very good ship. The themes and story do lead to it pretty strongly, but that was all it was ever going to be. A ship. LGBTQ+ relationships just aren't taken seriously, especially in Japan. Hate to get political, but unfortunately games are. If they'd gone all out with Soriku KH would've either bombed or wouldn't have even gotten past censures. Disney definitely wouldn't have let it slide. I do appreciate people enjoying the ship and I love the textual analysis, I ascribe to a lot of very generous Kingdom Hearts textual analysis, however much of a sloppy project manager Tetsuya Nomura is, it just needs to be said that one of the reasons KH3 was received so poorly among many fans was this exact thing. You expected too much

What you mentioned about LGBTQIA+ in Japan is something we talked about a lot on stream. It's unfortunate but true. I don't censor my thoughts about the games I play and wanted to include everything you see in the video because it was authentic to my experience of KH3 and this is still my favorite game in the series. But you are absolutely right about Japan and Disney (again, we talked about these things a lot during the lives streams). Kairi's move set in Re:Mind is super fun and I really hope they add more to her set because it was great to finally play as her and hopefully this will lead to more screen time and development from her. We shall see!

Your insights on Kairi’s flaws as a character really spoke to me. As someone who adores characters like Aqua, it also frustrates me that Kairi is written so poorly. “Why does she wield the keyblade?” As in why does she fight? What motivates her to take up arms? Where does she draw her strength?
@blakemayo2898 Жыл бұрын
I’ll just say this. I know you were really pushing for Sora Riku relationship and you said the whole relationship between Sora and Kairi was forced, but the game has been pointing in that direction the entire time. In the very beginning, it was about Sora or Riku doing what they believed to be right for Kairi. In the first game, Sora would have seen Riku more of a romantic rival since he made a lot of comments to tease Sora’s feelings toward Kairi. For example, who’s sharing the pauppu fruit with her, Sora’s face being upset when Riku said he was inspired by her, and their efforts to revive Kairi. Sora would have seen Riku more of a rival in the first game since he was always envious toward him. Sora pointed out his feelings in the very beginning of the game with his drawing in the hidden hideout. I don’t think Riku ever had romantic feelings toward anyone. I’ve always seen Riku as aromantic. He simply enjoyed teasing Sora as his best friend and caring for Kairi as a friend as well. I also think that since Riku and Sora have been best friends for so long, Riku probably knew all along about Sora’s feelings toward Kairi which is why he often teased it. The second game, Riku is a mystery to Sora. He hears about how he was defeated and Mickey is refusing to tell him anything. The only relief he gets is when Mickey tells him that they made a promise to each other. That’s the first time he hears that he is “okay”. From Sora’s perspective, Kairi is still on the Island and waiting for him to return home. He is not as worried about her as he is with his best friend. I do agree that Kairi does not have a lot of character growth since she has been on the sidelines for so long. Even at the end of the 3rd game she is simply the damsel in distress that the male protagonist has to save. Don’t want to spoil it for the people who never played or seen Melody of Memories, but I really hope that she has character growth in the next series will be like our other two heroes. The dialogue in the game is very vague sometimes and I can see how people can interpret their own feelings into the game. I never got a homosexual vibe from their relationship and never felt like heterosexuality is pushed in games because of the media or anything along those lines. I can understand wanting to relate to our favorite protagonist and being upset later on when they don’t relate as much as I hoped. I can also understand your perspective on it as well since the characters in this game never directly talk about their romantic interests. It’s all black and white in that regard. So far everyone looks at each other as friends. The only person who showed that they care more in a romantic level would be Sora toward Kairi. Kairi expresses joy from seeing the picture Sora made in the secret location, but she doesn’t show any interest in Sora romantically until she expressed wanting to share the fruit with Sora since it was the day before their big battle. These are just my views on it. Anyone is welcome to agree or disagree. I just wanted to share :)
@Marliemac Жыл бұрын
Yeah I always interpreted it that way, even as a kid. I see why people like to pair Sora and Riku together though, they have a great bond and spend lots of good screentime together, so its no surprise people who are queer would ship them. But also, it feels very clear Kairi and Sora have feelings towards one another. As you said, the cave drawing, Sora's memories of kairi, Xion's appearance, the dancing scene in kh2 Halloween town, even Riku acknowledges how special Kairi is to Sora on two occasions. Whether you interpret it as romantic love or platonic love is really up to the individual, but simply denying thier feelings for eachother doesn't exist or is forced is not the way to go. At least that's how I feel about it. I'm probably going to get burned at the steak for saying it, but that's just the internet for ya.

What I'm saying is that this game is a lot.

I feel like a lot of the plot points for sora in the earlier kh games is that he is helping his friends through their pain and he’s the light in their darkness and in this game it hits so much different because it’s finally sora being thrown into darkness and he just needs to lean on the light of his friends to help him finish.

I know this has been two years, but I binge watched all of your KH playlist (tried going by order) And while KH is my favourite series for the last 20 years, there is still some stuff I'm noticing. For example: At the beginning (23:10), when Riku is engulfed by darkness, he floats and drowns, and then hears Aqua. So, going back to your 0.2 playthrough when you started rambling about water and life, I guess there is some sort of connection. (also, most of the continue screens are very very similar to that scene, so there's that) And when Terra-Xehanort/Xemnas attacks the group and also devours everyone. When Sora screams and yells that he's all alone, and Riku goes to touch him but falters, its because it probably reminded him of himself during the events of KH1 through 2. So while the "You don't believe that" may sound a bit out of place, it's because it was Sora who brought him out of the darkness, so he knows that Sora does indeed not believe that. (1:30:40)

Man. I'll be the first to admit that I get waaaaay too emotional. I can relate with Violet in that way. I pretty much cried for every character with a tragic ending that's ever happened in every KH game so seeing Violet do the same is just such a mood. This series does such a good job getting you emotionally invested in these characters; Namine, Xion, Roxas, Axel, Aqua, Ephemer, etc... So, seeing her with nothing but a blank stare when Kairi "died" was just so sad to watch. I felt so much for Kairi in KH1 and cried for her but in KH3, I had the same reaction as Violet. Zero emotional attachment aside from an annoyed "are you serious?" Her consequent vent about how she doesn't know how to feel because she barely knows Kairi is true and I hate what her character has become. This isn't even a Soriku vs Sokai thing-- I genuinely thought Sokai and Kairi were super sweet in KH1 and loved them. It's how she keeps being used as a plot device to get kidnapped as a motivation for the men around her. It's how she's spent the entire game (and multiple secret endings at this point) being hinted as "training" yet isn't allowed to do anything except stand there gawking waiting for other people to rescue her. She hasn't been in a single fight prior to remind and even up to this point, hasn't been capable of winning a single fight without needing Sora to help her. Basically the only thing she's done in this entire franchise is be used as a deus ex machina to get Sora and/or Riku out of a tight situation with her princess of heart powers. KH seems to have no idea what to do with Kairi and it shows. I'm like 99% sure Nomura doesn't even like her with the way he treats her. She deserves so much better.

I honestly agree that poor Kairi just hasn’t had development and screentime so the getting together with Sora does come a bit out of nowhere, but at least there’s been some ship tease since the first game. It just hasn’t gotten focus since II, which was a long time ago haha. I do really like your valid take on the situation. I’ve seen fans slam Kairi as if they blame her for everything. She’s a perfectly fine character and like you said, it ain’t her fault they won’t use her 😅😂 I’m genuinely sorry that happened though as someone who has never really seen KH as a ship heavy series. Like obviously there are certain ships teased but this game shows they’re not really committing to portraying ships in depth regardless of who it is. SoKai was shocking because they actually portrayed it explicitly lol. Which I mean, I get it, a franchise doesn’t have to have relationships to work.

Kairi's character regression is probably the worst thing kingdom hearts has ever done (alongside maybe with Xehanort's attempted redemption), she was so full of character and personality in the first game despite being asleep and missing for most of it, but with each new game she looses a little bit more of her charm (which is true for a lot of the cast, but never to such extremes) and turns into a basic one dimensional beacon of light and love interest/damsel in distress. She could easily be on the top tier if they had handled her better, Nomura really missed the mark here, and it's not even because he can't writte female characters cause Aqua, Xion and Namine are all great in their own right. But it is something he does a lot, striping the female protagonist/love interest of all their personality (see Aerith in Advent Children or even in the KH games). It's really disappointing.

I am really, really hoping we get to see more from her in the future! Attempting to redeem Xehanort is interesting but I won't say it necessarily worked for me. (This is someone who hasn’t finished 3 (on pirates right now), and also this video so huge huge grains of salt, might edit this after I finish) I don’t how much I agree with that. Yeah she was definetly a lot feistier in 1, but I never got the impression she lost that in 2 or 3 (not yet at least). She’s definetly less fiery as a teen, but I just took that as her growing up and maturing. Specially since unlike Sora and Riku she spent her after 1 in what’s the closest thing to a normal life. And she still didn’t hesitate to fight, since she squared up before Riku came in and tried to help Sora before she got a keyblade. And I’m 3, I admit I don’t know what’s gonna happen, but I get the impression she whatever she ends up doing won’t be substantial as you’d hope, which would be unfortunate. But in terms of personality, considering she was willing to take on Axel, I don’t know if I buy she’s lost her personality. But I’ll see I guess. Still would love to see more of her; much as I like her I’d like more characteristics that I don’t have to read as much into to get, as well as give her and Sora more to work with. which apparently might be happening eventually.

@@thepixelman4776 that's fair I guess you could see Kairi's problem as having more to do with her amount of screen time and level of involvement in the story/narrative purpose rather than with her character writing. I definitely think all these factors contribute to the issue, even something as small as the change of VA makes the current version of Kairi seem very distant from her original self for me, there's very little differentiating her from Xion and Namine at this point. I'd get more into it but I don't wanna spoil anything. You're right though, there are still some traces of her KH1 self in there, and some of the change to her character came naturally through growth between Kh1 and 2, she could easily make a comeback if Nomura ever gives her the attention she deserves. The problem there is that Kairi being a more active player, as much as it seems now like it's going to happen, is something that's being teased pretty much since the ending of KH2 but still hasn't come, KH3 was the time for it and they missed the mark imo.

@@PermanentViolet you're right YX and MX feel like very different characters. I'd go even further and say that Dark Road's YX and 3D/KH3's YX, as well as BBS's MX and KH3's MX, feel very different too. My problem with Xehanort's "redemption" in 3 is not that there's no nuance to his character, it's just that it felt out of nowhere and like it wasn't earned. MX had a compelling goal from the moment we meet him in BBS (wanting to balance the light and darkness of the world through Kingdom Hearts as well as learn the mysteries of the keyblade war). His goal is not what made him a villain in BBS, it was his corruption and the lengths he was willing to go to in other to get his wish, what he did to the wayfinder trio, eraqus and vanitas... He shouldn't have been absolved of those crimes so easily, specially not when he fought to the very end and only repented after loosing (which I also think was pretty out of character).

@@ohwow1626 well it is what it is for now I guess. Which if that’s the scene I think, it’ll actually make me very happy). Though one thought: at the very least, in any future games, they could have her struggle with the notion that, on two separate occasions, she’s had the power to help Sora save the world, meaning a keyblade, but ultimately couldn’t do much as the least experienced. Again, no idea what’s gonna happen in this game at the end or if they’d go that route in the future, but that could a way to build off that missed potential. I think.🤔

Yeah I don't think the paopu "sharing" scene with Kairi was supposed to be romantic (even Sora's JP voice actor agrees). Sora was clearly caught off-guard and unsure about it until Kairi said "it's just as a good-luck charm" (because that's what she says in the Japanese version btw), and in the end nothing about it was romantic, just cute. Promising to keep the other safe isn't exclusively romantic. As a little tidbit, during development, they had two different versions of that scene voice-recorded: this one, and one without paopu "sharing". To me it just feels like they were just tying lose ends because the paopu "sharing" has been hinted since the first game and they weren't even sure if they wanted to go with it. PS: The fandom can say otherwise as much as they want, but feeding two different paopu fruits to the other ISN'T sharing a paopu fruit.

I really do envy the people who started their Kingdom Hearts journeys much later, after 3 was already out. Yeah, there's something special about having followed this series from the very beginning, but the fourteen year wait between 2 and 3 really did hurt the experience of 3 for a lot of long time fans in my mind. There were side games, sure, but they never touched the hype for 3 that had been growing for all that time. Nothing could have ever lived up to that hype, not even this, as good as it is, so many of the fans who'd been waiting would have felt let down no matter what, and we were. Fans like this, though, who didn't have that waiting period and just went straight through the series, didn't have to deal with that, and just got to experience another chapter of a series they love. I wish I could erase my memories of this series and experience it that way, too.

This was an amazing watch, you've inspired a replay of the series on my part. Thank you, I needed this so much. I needed kingdom hearts back in my life. I will be checking out the twitch streams and try not to get backseat banned by Xigbar.

I’ve loved this Kingdom Hearts journey she’s been on, and I can’t wait to see her eventually get to KH4 whenever that comes out, her love of this series is genuine and I really relate to how it makes me want to be a better person and a better friend, Kingdom Hearts has really had a big effect on me, and I can’t wait to see where it goes from here. Don’t keep reading unless you wanna hear my thoughts on shipping and Soriku Sora and Riku are brothers, that is their relationship Eraqus and Xehanort are too (tho I still jokingly call both of these pairs boyfriends) even using the word “brother” in Xehanort’s reports when referencing Eraqus I think Arendale put a pin on that too, by directly comparing Sora and Riku’s relationship to that of Anna and Elsa’s: two siblings Soriku shippers have good reason to dislike Kairi’s lack of on-screen development, and Sokai being the endgame, but I don’t take too much issue with it (other than wanting more direct Kairi development) I’ve always had better relationships with my boys than I ever had with any girl save for like one, and if this wasn’t real life, if I was just a character in a story, then yeah being gay might be an interesting turn, might even make more sense for my character, yeah? Things don’t gotta make sense, sometimes it just be like that, sometimes characters are just straight, and that’s my take. I think it’s *more* interesting for a character to struggle to be with someone they’re attracted to, but are not necessarily as compatible with them as perhaps someone else, to be completely honest. Just feels more real that way, cause often we DO hyper-fixate on one thing, and miss out on the good opportunities right in front of us, and we don’t get that second chance. THAT’S real af, to me anyway. I’d have no issue with Soriku btw, but a transition from Sokai to Soriku would be needed if they did it. Don’t mind me tho, just thinking

Actually, in the Character Files, Riku states that he tried acting like an older brother to Sora in the beginning. But he was bad at it and never felt that way. He also says that their dynamic changed. Sora questions if his relationship with Riku is like a sibling connection in the Character Files. He also states that he doesn't really get love.

I sincerely hope you don't forget to play the DLC. Re:Mind fills in more story gaps, as well as producing new headaches for whatever's about to come. We're not done yet Dear Violet. Also, I don't know if you've heard or play it, but Sora is now in Super Smash Bros., and they gave his character entry a lot of love and detail. Check it out and enjoy. Looking forward to more.

The first 6mins of this video is literally how the first minutes of KH3 were for me when it came out. First the recap of the story and then the new dearly beloved wich fits perfectly for the finale of the dark seeker saga. It just has this feeling of something big coming to an end. I couldn’t keep myself from crying too!

Master Eraqus' voice actor is Mark Hamill, who was Luke Skywalker, so in a way, Star Wars WAS in Kingdom Hearts 3, from a certain point of view.

Wait, why the hate on Mickey? He was searching for all those years and even came close to bringing Aqua back to the Realm of Light in 0.2 before the two were forcibly separated again. Not to mention that Aqua wasn't exactly in the best state of mind when she was pinning the blame on Mickey on account of being given a healthy dose of darkness by Ansem.
@AstralMuffin1052 жыл бұрын
Because a lot of people either disregard that Aqua didn't tell anyone where she was going when she went after Terra and fell into the darkness, and that he didn't find her again until the end of KH1. Also, a lot of us just bash Mickey for the sake of memes, while not taking it seriously.

My thoughts on the stars in the final world are that they are just people from elsewhere within the universe. My interpretation was that they were meant to show that the world of Kingdom Hearts goes on independently of all the light/darkness/Xehanort/Sora shenanigans. People in this universe live and die, they laugh and they cry, and that they aren't forgotten by the world when the leave it, even if they think they are.

nomura actually said in an interview that the paopu scene between sora and kairi isnt romantic and he was actually worried that itd be interpreted as such! he said it was supposed to be a sorrowful scene, and basically kairi's last attempt at preventing her and sora from being seperated during the final fight. i think it was more of a safety precaution especially with her clarifying "let ME protect YOU" i think kairi has been left alone/ lost her friends so many times that she wanted to ensure that some piece of sora was connected to her in case of worst case scenario

i forget how people new to this game will feel. and not just them. a lot of the fans. kairi really doesn't get much in this series, but i've loved it for so long that i've kinda fleshed kairi out myself, in my own head, along with her relationships with riku and sora. but to someone who hasn't spent as much time with the characters over the years, that doesn't feel as natural. what i ship in this game is all three of them (sora, riku, kairi) even though soriku undoubtedly gets the absolute most from the series, while kairi and sora get not much at all, let alone riku and kairi. i like the relationships in this game a LOT. Love them. but they don't do them all very well. it hurts me that so much of the fandom hates kairi and hates her relationship with sora, bc it such an important thing to me personally. i hate that Soriku has been soured for me by the fandom that absolutely hates kairi for "getting in the way" of their relationship, because i really liked soriku before that. it's hard to watch this as someone with that experience of the fandom. i know you don't hate kairi, but the fact that kairi and soras scenes and their relationship hurts you really really makes me so sad. i wish they did kairi better, did her relationships better.
@JacobCrossMusic2 жыл бұрын
This comment, I'm fine with the Soriku ship... but the people who hate on Kairi and stomp and scream when it doesn't go that direction ruin it for everyone. Also seen some other comments talk about how Sora and Riku have a great dynamic of best friends who aren't afraid to express their emotions and feelings and how that's a nice thing to see in media instead of the polarizing "no homo bros" vs being the romantic couple. Kairi deserves better character points, but there is nothing wrong with Sokai

Your emotions in the Final World are indescribable. I actually never read the text in the stars. And I was crying with you. I believe these stars represent all the Guardians' thoughts (which is obvious for some) but I also believe that the messages are also put in that way that anyone can interpret them in their own way. This game is so beautiful and I'm so glad that I found your channel. Thank you for these videos Violet!

I’ve been really enjoying watching your playthroughs of the KH series, and this one was no exception! Great video! It’s cool to hear your thoughts on the characters and how you feel about their portrayal. Your interpretation of Sora and Riku as being gay is your own and I wouldn’t want to delegitimize it in any way - it’s as valid as any other interpretation. But I kinda wanted to share my thoughts on the matter and what their relationship means to me. One of the things that has made Kingdom Hearts so special to me has been its willingness to portray close friendships between two male characters in a very unapologetic way. I feel like in popular media male friendships are often either very remote and in a kinda “no homo”-ish way, or if their bond is portrayed as being more than that it’s often assumed that relationship must be romantic. I feel like in many ways this dichotomy has reinforced in straight men’s minds the idea that they can’t have close, vulnerable connections with other men without being considered gay. And so I’m sort of glad that Kingdom Hearts serves as an example of having a very strong connection between two male characters - to the point where you could interpret them as being gay if you wanted to, while also being able to interpret them as being straight and having a very wholesome friendship, one I feel is unique in gaming. I also agree with you 100% about Kairi being poorly written and used mostly as a damsel in distress for Sora. It’s very unfortunate, I hope they do more with her in the future, she definitely has a lot of potential. Sorry for the long comment, I just had a lot of thoughts after watching your video! Once again, thanks for sharing your experience!
@PermanentViolet3 жыл бұрын
I also love the portrayal of close friendships. True friendships are so meaningful and important. I love that KH and other Square games (thinking in particular about FFXV) show us close relationships between male characters. I want to see more of these types of relationships in games and media, honestly. I think we all can agree they have a very deep bond and them being gay or not is up to personal interpretation. But I can absolutely see both sides. Anyway, thank you so much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment!

I don’t feel Sora and Kairi are a forced relationship. Sora and Riku honestly don’t show signs of a homosexual relationship. In KH II, one of the characters describes Kairi as “the girl Sora likes.” Sora looks up to Riku and Vice versa for qualities both lack. Kairi is under developed in this game, but KH2 gave her more more range to grow. Aqua is a strong character because she’s independent in her own way although she loves and cares for her friends.

When I opened up the game, KH3's dearly beloved might've been the most beautiful thing I've ever heard- It's a bit of a pity I never cried in KH3, but I still loved the entire journey. Aah yes, our favorite totally traitor Xigbar. "Hey you old coot, I'm gonna, uuh, R for Reload since I'm gonna B for Betray you!" I'm glad you could re-live a new childhood through Kingdom Hearts. Truly one of the most magical franchises ever. "Where is Zack and Cloud?" (And Auron) indeed. I don't have the faintest idea why Final Fantasy characters just weren't in this game aside from the DLC. They are just as big of a part of this franchise as Disney is. Can't wait for you to get into UX's story, that'll re-contextualize many things from the franchise. I cri every time thinking of KH3 Twilight Town. It's so smol... I want to sit on the goddamn Clocktower...! YEETUS VANITAS I don't know how Sexuality has anything to do with Kingdom Hearts. There's nothing related to that stuff aside from the basic Prince and Princess stuff. And that star- Mental Illness? Sure, maybe, but not Sexuality. Then again, I'm a straight person only into 2D characters so what do I understand. Goodness' sake, calm down with the Mickey hate- "Forcing Sora and Kairi together" They were into each other since KH1- At least as much as these games will show. Probably the SoRiku shipper in you getting salty. Donald using Zettaflare- He's the strongest character in the FF universe Talking to the stars emotionally destroying you was delightful. Kingdom Hearts purgatory is such a beautiful place "A choice between going to Riku and to Mickey? Very tough one... can I just never go to Mickey's side?" "You're gonna be recompleted. :)" Lea and Axel fighting for their life and you are just standing still, taking pictures- "Lil Nort" and "Xemnasty" is fantastic. I don't think you used Shotlocks even once. Huh. Hope you kept hydrated with all the feels you got bombarded with- No ReMind content? Bummer. I was the exact same. I just had to replay the game right after finishing it. On the hardest mode at the time, Proud of course. Now with the patch and the DLC, it's even better.

As much as I dislike Kairi for being useless and not getting much character development, Sora and Kairi being together was like foreshadowed from the minute KH1 starts so I'm not surprised that's what they went for.
